There seems to be a virus or some sort of malware going around causing blogs to “send out” chat messages to blogs that they follow asking for help with the purchase of certain items through donations of seemingly small amounts using bitcoin and adds a link to the message.

The message goes as following (at least the first message I got went like this): “Hi there buddy. I need help, I’m trying to buy a laptop and I can’t afford it. I’m about 0.36$ short, and I’d really appreciate if you could help me and transfer some money to me via bitcoin using this *link*.”

The small details in the message seems to have a few variations with the greeting, amount and purchased item showing up in different variations from formal to friendly, from 0.016 to 2$ and from a phone case to a laptop among others.

The blogs that are affected send out the messages to blogs that they follow for a long time mostly, so you are most likely to receive the message from a long time, active follower whose name you might recognize or a mutual etc. The blogs that are affected are not spam bots but actual active followers who follow the recipient for months or years and most likely the blogger who “sent” the message is unaware of the message being sent.

Opening up the link will cause the virus to spread even more and infect your computer/mobile with any sort of malware.

No seriously? What happened? I’ve roleplayed on tumblr for close to six years now. That’s right, I remember the days of giant gifs, zero-formatting to your posts and THE most basic layouts in a theme ever known to man. Container themes were a distant dream (or curse lmao) and duplicates / AUs / hilarious OC’s and the like all lived in harmony. 

You played a villain? AWESOME. You played a hero? AWESOME. Your content was 18+? YOU DIDN’T HAVE TO TELL ANYBODY CAUSE NO ONE CARED. You liked your eggs with a side order of SMUT? FUCK YEA.  You didn’t wanna smut? THAT FINE TOO, FAM. A ship was literally just a ship and not a fucking marriage? LOL YEA You didn’t wanna ship with that guy ‘bob’? HE’S FINE WITH IT! Your writing was a mixture of *—* and crack? YEA WHATEVS FAM, ROCK IT. Outside of rping you have a real life and could take weeks off at a time without people hounding you for replies? DAT COOL FAM - IT’S A HOBBY AFTERALL. 

Honestly - RPing was literally a hobby. We all wrote our terrible fanfics and nobodies male character had a dick smaller than ten inches because y’know, it was YOUR world and you made it perfect for yourself. Conflict was so rare. People were much nicer.

So; I run multiple blogs - I do this because I love multiple characters. Lately, I have seen people actually complain about doing this. Like, WHY????? It’s none of your business???

I’ve seen people moaning about muns playing white, cis characters over minorities???? WHY???? again, none of your business - there is no sexist, racist, homophobic etc agenda behind the character somebody plays lmao - you are CLUTCHING AT STRAWWWSSSS

People have been THROWING around the terms ‘problematic’ and ‘toxic’ lately like they’re a hot fucking pair of potatoes. You’re problematic if you want to roleplay darker themes ???? last time I checked authors wrote that sorta shit all the time. People get mad about what is and isn’t tagged. People get mad at people for getting mad over what is and isn’t tagged. 

People LITERALLY harass one another - like, they bombard each other with shitty messages or IN MY CASE - they message their followers trying to stir up shit.
