Honestly I think the saddest thing about the 100 at the moment is how it has treated Bob Morley.
He was the male lead and gets treated like crap by half the fandom that couldnât handle that the bi female lead could also love the male lead and not just the lesbian character that really was a secondary character, she wasnât a main considering the amount of actual screen time in the entire series.
But people abused him constantly on twitter, mocking his mental health struggles, ignoring the racial abuse because some people are so desperate to hate him and his character that they will call him a white male lead despite him NOT BEING WHITE. But he goes through all of that, finds love in his best friend and co star, gets married and has a tragic miscarriage all the while fans are harassing him for âruining their shipâ despite the ship being fictional and not real life. Through all of that, he has his work mocked by the show runner who contradicts the character journey and motivation Bob has brought to BellamyÂ
Then his ex makes allegations of abusive behaviour and Bob receives even more harassment and calls to kill himself, he and his wife being forced to reveal that the relationship was a toxic one where both parties did awful things to each other which happens. Like Iâm not an abuse apologist but Iâve also been around people that just bring out the worst in me and I donât recognise myself in my actions to them. Itâs hard to own up to your own culpability though when you feel like the wronged party and even harder to realise that things arenât black and white and sometimes people break up because the relationship wasnât good for both of them
But Bob continues working, continues bringing to life a character we love, until the showrunner, who has numerous accusations of racist actions and is openly in conflict with Bob, decides to completely alienate Bellamy from the other characters before using the iconic âThe Head and The Heartâ tagline for Bellamy and Clarke, using that to have Clarke shoot him in the heart with no hesitation or de-escalation. The character that Bob has openly played as being the person Bellamy loves, having her kill him in the final scene of an episode with no build up or time to process the shock before the episode ends. The male lead being killed off (AGAIN) with no reverence for the character, unlike the other main cast in the last season when we had Abby and Marcus get almost an entire episode each to grieve the characters and the actors before having their final moment in the show. But none of that for Bellamy despite being almost sidelined this entire season
Bob deserved better and I honest to god hope he goes on to bigger and better things and that JRoth stays in the shit holes he creates for himself because he doesnât deserve to be a show runner with how he treated his cast and how he treated fans. The fact that half the fandom is absolutely seething with rage is not unconnected to how he has acted. He has gaslit fans for years, saying that Clarke and Bellamy are nothing more than friends but then writing romantic coded scenes for them and building the relationship up more than any other relationship on the show, including the romantic relationships of the pair that lack chemistry or emotional weight. He treated his loyal fans like crap and that isnât okay. He treated Bob like crap for being human and for daring to disagree with his âvisionâ which is a pile of crap that he throws at the show and bullshits into existence without doing the work
