Mini-Issue #2 - Lioncry

wowwww do u recognize this coyote from anywhere .... huhhhhh i thought that was a cat .... wonder what thats about ....

things are going to start getting very bizarre from here, we have a calmer issue coming up and then every subsequent one for a good bit is heavy. be prepared!!! you have been warned! lots of reveals soon towards the overarching story and themes!

Issue #6 - Decisions

Shorter issue this time!! Issues will be coming out sort of inconsistently throughout the month of July! I'll try to meet my Sunday deadlines, but with ArtFight going on, it's probably not going to happen!

That being said, Slugpaw and the gang are on ArtFight! I will give a major warning for spoilers on their pages if you check them out! If you're also a comic maker and your sillies are on ArtFight, feel free to drop your link and I may attack hehe...

ANYWAYS !!! Blackpelt... woaahhh boy u sure have some existentially horrifying stuff in your past that you're leaving out...

YAYYY the first mini issue!! These will be released between normal issues from here on out, focusing on different characters perspectives to beef up the world building, provide context on mysteries from certain issues, etc!! This is sort of to reduce my workload and give me more time to work on full issues, but also just for ensuring the characters are understood and given the time they need to breathe!

I've had this issue in mind for months!! I just knew I had to get it out before pride month was over, and immediately after the last issue seemed like a good time! This isn't the last we'll see of Brindletusk's journey with his identity! I adore Brindletusk, despite him being Slugpaw's childhood bully, and I hope you all enjoy his upcoming character arc!

To clarify, to DayClan, he will be continuing to use she/her for the time being, but he will eventually open up about his preferred pronouns when he feels comfortable doing so! In the meantime, I will be using solely he/him for Brindletusk in these descriptions!

Andddd, to wrap pride month up, I thought I'd share the list of queer DayClan kitties!

Slugpaw - Butch Lesbian Vervainpaw - Lesbian Brindletusk - Trans Man Iceleg - Trans Woman Cranefoot (kitty next to Asphodel in the issue #5!) - Aroace Rookstar - Bisexual

Ravenfoot and Thriftstripe's dynamic feels inherently queer to me as well, despite both kitties being straight and married...? I imagine they were the kind of childhood best friends to promise they'd platonically marry if they didn't have partners by a certain age! If Ravenfoot didn't become mates with Asphodelface, and Thriftstripe didn't get with Lilyfur, I imagine they eventually would've ended up in a QPR! Things went the way they did, though.

I hope you enjoyed this short issue! I will hopefully be back next week with issue #6!

Issue #5 - That Wretched Fog

Content warning for blood & disturbing imagery!

Words cannot describe how excited I've been for this issue! It's been a month or two in the making, between school and moving! I'm really starting to amp up on the horror visuals and I am getting so hyped for the future of this comic!! This issue unofficially introduces my favorite character in this story, Wigeonspots! She is the kitty with her paws around the glowing orb! Quite an interesting critter...

To elaborate some on Lioncry's condition, he's been in a coma! Blackpelt and Slugpaw are an amazing team though, so surely he'll make it through... I mean... he even talked again! Woahhh...

I'm sorry Slugpaw... let's all give our tiny gray cat our hopes and wishes </3

Issue #4 - Milk n' Honey

Yeppp things get much darker from here on out... Incase it's not clear, Rookstar made Slug a healer's apprentice due to her knowing of the battle that was going to kill Sweetdeer when she shouldn't have. DayClan is super hypocritical, despite being very superstitious they're quick to label any cat who has any sort of visions or abnormalities as freaks and outcast them :/

Rookstar is a reallyyyy interesting character and I'd like to delve into her more in the future honestly?? She's very bitter from some intense things that've occurred in her life I suppose

Fun side fact, before Ravenfoot, Slugpaw's mom, started having her episodes, she was the best singer in DayClan! Singing is very important to DayClan culture, they love their little folk songs! It's also used in hunting to lure in prey!

There may be a delay in the next issue since I'm in the process of moving and also working on college finals!

Issue #3 - A Storms'a Brewin'

Slugpaw loredrop!! She in fact does not have claws! This was hinted at in the first issue, when Slugpaw mentioned being sent to the healers den for "other ailments" alongside her premonitions! This issue was super fun to work on for a variety of reasons!! Mostly because I absolutely adore Slug and Spider's dynamic, and I was super excited to introduce Lionpaw and Brindlepaw in particular... if you've noticed a resemblance to the ginger tabby she-cat from the previous issue, Thriftstripe, you're on to something! Thriftstripe is Lion and Brindle's mom and Slugpaw's mother's childhood best friend! The next two issues get pretty heavy! However, issue #4 is my absolute favorite out of every issue I have written out and plotted so far, so I'll be very excited to show it to y'all next week! Lots of sweet moments... and tragedy. Things get a little heavier from here! Wishing you all the best of luck reading the upcoming chapters! Wonder what Slugpaw will get herself wrapped up in... ...I'm sorry in advance, Slug...

Issue #2 - In Her Kind Eyes

I was planning on uploading these weekly, but since it's just starting I figured I'd get another issue out of the way!! I'm introducing some of my favorite characters in this issue, Thriftstripe, the cat keeping Slugpaw away from her mother, Vervainpaw, and Blackpelt! I hope you all come to love these little guys as much as I do hehe...

As you can see, Slug and Vervain have some chemistry going, but Slug is like. #1 girlfail ever and poor Vervain doesn't want to push too much LOL

Next issue y'all will be getting to see more of yet ANOTHER one of my favorite kitties, Spiderpaw, Slug's sister! Very goofy goober

Issue #1 - The Beginning

Super super excited to start this lil adventure!! I frequently visited the Appalachian mountains throughout my childhood since I lived just about 3 hours away and I've always wanted to do something with it!! This story will be PACKED with Appalachian folklore! This comic takes inspiration from PATW (obviously), Jumalanpelko, Vertigo, and What Lurks Beneath! I want to emphasize though, that despite those inspirations, this is very much it's own original story able to stand on it's own two feet! This also takes the Clan Generator challenge route; I generated a Clan of cats and made a story around them!

This also does take place within the universe of the books... kind of?? AU where it's been like. Hundreds of years since the current arc and they're in America,,, I'm so incredibly hyped to share Slugpaw's story with you!
