"And you think that is enough to keep him in line? I know of a few who are discontented with Andrealphus's power grab, and who is to say he won't try and find a way to cement his newfound gains? Do you truly believe he will simply hand over power to Octavia when she comes of age, as per the agreement with Satan? And when Stolas's banishment is done and he returns to the flock, will Andrealphus be all too willing to hand things over? Ideally it should go to Octavia before Stolas returns, but I would not count on that. Not to mention how gleeful and smug he was when Stolas's punishment was handed down.

Forgive my disbelief, but I fear that Andrealphus is not to be trusted not to climb even higher, or find ways to circumvent Satan's decree to serve his own means." While Andrealphus would obey to a point, Vassago had his suspicions based on Andrealphus's actions in the courtroom, and of what he personally knew about the peacock. If Baal and the others were content to believe that Satan and their laws were enough to keep him in line, then they were free to cling to such a hope. Vassago, however, would be keeping a careful eye.

"Don't worry about the imp. Immunity won't save him from a knife in the back that could be any old bar in Wrath gone wrong. Tch, it's probably about time the rabble be reminded they exist because we allow them to anyway."

Baal leaned forward with increasing impatience. "Alright, let's pretend this all happens exactly the way you say it does. Andrealphus spends time entrenchin' himself in Stolas's seat and plots to keep it for himself. What happens next? As a start, Satan has his judgement undermined and if ya think he'll suffer that, you don't know the man. Second, the whole court knows that he can't be trusted to keep his end of deals and all of those dry up real quick. Unless he's workin' to keep a faction behind the scenes, which so far he hasn't, this is only goin' to ruin him."

Baal keeps all six of his eyes trained straight on Vassago, commanding direct attention more than he had before. "But if this bothers you so much, then take the steps to undermine him yourself. Make sure at every turn he's reminded that his power is temporary and that he's acting as a steward for his teenage niece who is really the one in charge until her father returns. Treat it like it's the most obvious thing in the world and that he'd be a damn fool to disagree. Prince Regent, Lord Steward, Acting Official... He wants to replace his title so badly, give him what he asks for and make him regret it."

Politics was always about optics. Authority didn't matter if no one obeyed it, and a ruler couldn't cement that power without respect from anyone. Vassago would need to learn the play the game and not just constantly demand the truth be plain. Hopefully this would be his lesson.

"Of course..." Smoke swirls between them into a frozen facsimile of the Marquis, looking smug and triumphant as he always did.

"Very well...."

It was why he was called upon after all.

He returned to studying the papers, not minding being observed. Many people attempted to understand how his mind worked, but the truth was that it simply couldn't be stopped. He needed study, needed scholarly pursuits, or he felt like his brain was turning to rust. Scouring the records with focused patience, until he found something of use.

"Your Majesty -" He stood up. A master alchemist's journal, written in old French. "- we might have something -"

He produced a translation in English, describing what he'd found. "It appears there was a slip of the code here.... he's used calcium oxide to stabilize the mixture in order to adjust ingredients without the Greek Fire lighting prematurely."

"Well ain't that somethin'. We're gettin' places." He gives Forneas a hearty slap on the back, probably with more force than the old scholar was used to, and starts murmering to himself. "The purity percentage and fineness is going to matter, I bet. Probably not the magnesium variant... Liquid? Eh, we're still only partly there."

"Excuse me everyone."

She curtsied before the assembly, taking her position in the second throne. Trying very hard to avoid Baals disapproving eye. "I apologize for making you wait." She said, though her voice was still a bit high and thready. "Thank you for coming."

Her fingers laid in her lap, buried in the folds of her skirt, but they were fidgeting, scratching with anxious energy.

"Now, come on now. Don't be too shy. Introduce yourselves right and proper now." He says with a beckoning motion to the assembling crowd.

So it looks like it's an overwhelming majority opinion that merging into a multimuse will be useful, but I should keep this blog's name. I was already considering this but I think this'll give me the extra push. I don't know when I'll actually do this but I'll mostly just be creating new pages for Phel, Gusion, Athena, and Baal and maybe a new muse or two.

Threads will be continued here once I do the merger. Don't worry about losing anything. Old blogs will remain as an archive.

I will need to source a new icon and banner, I think, as well as redo my promo.

Baal reached out and gave the back of the taller man a hearty clap. Between Baal's hunch and bulky frame he was still larger than Astaroth, but definitely not taller. Thankfully he could still reach his shoulder fine. "Good on ya, old boy. Now stop sulkin' against a damn wall and let's actually join the party, eh?"
