my wired headphones will keep me safe from the cruel sounds of reality

skipping lunch in the bathroom again. yesterday, the bullies kept finding excuses to walk past my table just to stare at me, and even though my father tells me not to worry about them, their cruel eyes keep replaying in my mind. so today, i’m hiding away in the girls’ restroom, where i spend most of my lunch anyway. my brown cardigan is wrapped around me like a little shield from the world, and tucked against my chest is a heart locket with a picture of the girl i love inside. for a little while, that’s enough to make me feel safe.
