Rec of the Day // Eli&Derek
Eli didn’t have to wait long, thankfully. He leaned against the couch, staring at the hardwood flooring, his eyes followed the waves that were formed in the surface, but the sound of someone else’s voice snapped him out of the daze he found himself in. He looked back at the other brunet, stepping away from the couch to face him full on. He seemed nice enough, that was for sure, though Eli tried not to go on first impressions, even if they were positive ones. He learned to not do that the hard way, more than once, unfortunately.
Nonetheless, he gazed down at the extended hand, and accepted it. He gave a polite smile. “Yeah… um, I figured as much, from what you told me,” he replied as he pulled his hand away. He fixed his glasses on the bridge of his nose, feeling them slip a bit before he motioned over to the stairs. “We could head to the rec room now, unless there’s something else in the house you want me to show you first?” He asked, figuring it was best to be polite.
“Well, unless there’s a room you’d like to check out. I don’t know, you’ve been here longer,” Derek replied honestly, shrugging his shoulders. He’d only stayed in his shared room, unpacking during the few hours he’d spent in the house; he’d yet to explore the place, and figure out its perks. That’s why he was set on the rec room, as it most likely held the highest entertainment value--well, that and the theatre--either way, he wanted out of his isolation, and something to do.
“I’d offer to show you my room,” he joked, the playfulness in his tone evident. “But, I get the feeling that we all have the same kind of living arrangement.” With a small nod of his head, Derek stood comfortably beside the other boy, curiosity written on his features. “So, which way is it to that rec room?” He haphazardly pointed over his shoulder as he took a small step forward; the opposite direction he was gesturing to. He figured if he’d gotten it wrong, the other would redirect him; which thankfully, he did.
The trip wasn’t long, and the two managed to hold small talk along the way, though once they made it over to the room, his short, friendly sentences vanished, astonishment overcoming him. Weirdly enough, he hadn’t thought that the mansion was going to be so wonderfully decorated inside; it wasn’t that it was perfect--nothing ever was--but, it was significantly close to what he’d had while living at home; that definitely warmed him up to the idea of residing there. “Not bad,” he commented, before stepping into the rec room, waiting for the other boy to join him.
