Damn.
I am not passing up this chance.
OMG! WHAT DO I DO?
I have this favorite list and vil is like...
(0.General)
1. Lilia
2.Malleus
3.Riddle
4.Leona and Vil (share the spot)
5. Jamil
.....
So like. Do i try to stop this and set her (mi) up with lilia or do I go with the flow?
IDK 🥲
On that note, how do people make some charakters like Riddle?
I can't seem to get the hair right.
Chapter 7
Crows are among the most intelligent birds in the world. They can recognize human faces they've seen only once, even years later, solve complex puzzles, and some species have even passed self-awareness tests. A group of crows is called a murder, yet despite their incredible intelligence, they still love to play.
Dire Crowley is based on crows, so I believe he's far more than he lets on. Just like the birds he's inspired by, he seems to be much smarter than people give him credit for. He's managed to remain the headmaster of NRC for a very long time and, somehow, has kept the school together despite everything that happens there.
We know almost nothing about Crowley's past, but we've seen just how much Lilia has changed over the years. If someone like Lilia could change that much with time, I don't think it's too far-fetched to believe that something similar happened to Crowley.
——————————————————————-
Now, where did we leave off?
Ah, right.
…
Grim was out of breath, having managed to defeat the performer (transformer).
"Pant… Pant… Well?"
Behind him, Yuuki was holding her head.
Thanks to the adrenaline, she hadn't noticed it earlier, but her ears—or, well, her new ears—picked up on a lot.
And that, paired with those two loudmouths, made her head feel like it was splitting apart.
But…
Well…
The others were oblivious to her pain.
Or maybe they chose to ignore it?
Crowley, on the other hand…
"Incredible… I've never seen anyone bend a monster to their will quite the way you have.
I must confess, my educator's intuition did sense something about you after the brouhaha at orientation, Yuuki.
I could tell you had a certain animal trainer-y, beast master-ish quality to you. Oh, yes.
That said, I… mumble mumble."
He was making this all about himself.
Oh, she swore one of these days she'd give him a good ol' punch.
But she felt as if she were forgetting something…
Ah!
"Would it be possible for Grim to stay with me? I mean…
Grim would really like to go to this school.
AND he kinda DID help me back there."
As much as it pains me to confess.
Crowley, though?
Not impressed.
Far from it, actually.
"WHAT? A monster, stay HERE?"
Grim, however?
"Whoa, did you just…?"
He suddenly saw a halo behind the girl.
"Please, sir!
I-I mean, think about it! What if there are more ghosts?
How am I, a magicless, defenseless person" -she almost gagged back there; Grim owes her one- "who was kidnapped from her safe and comfy home" -a lie, but they don't need to know that- "going to defend herself?
And, of course, the most powerful weapon in her possession…
Puppy eyes.
…
Grim copied her without a hint of shame.
Crowley's smile twitched.
"Hmmm… I suppose I cannot deny your plea.
Very well."
"Myah?! Really?"
But, of course, life was never meant to be easy.
"Let me be clear!
Under no circumstances would I admit anyone to Night Raven College who has not been selected by the Dark Mirror—especially not a monster!
Nor do I intend to allow you, Yuuki, to freeload until you're able to return home."
So much for that, anyone thought.
"Hrmph. Never shoulda got my hopes up…"
"Wait… then what DO you want?"
Now, depending on his answer, it was going to decide his fate.
Will he get out of here alive?
A bead of sweat ran down his spine.
"Now, allow me to explain.
It was the Dark Mirror that transported you here.
Therefore, this school does bear some responsibility for your well-being.
So I will allow you to remain in this dorm, free of charge."
That sounds suspicious.
"However—"
There it is.
"—you will need to pay for your own food, clothing, and incidentals.
As to how you will do so, penniless as you are… Ah. Ah ha. Yes, a fine plan."
Now it was Yuuki's turn to be nervous.
Gulp.
"What exactly are you planning to make me do?"
"You needn't seem so alarmed. I'm simply going to ask you to do a few odd jobs around campus.
From what you've done here, Yuuki, I can tell you know your way around a broom.
So, what do you say to you two working together as a janitorial team?
If you agree to that, I will make a special exception and allow you to remain on campus.
I'll also allow you use of the library so that you may study and research ways to return home.
How soundlessly charitable I am.
Ah, but only when your work is over, of course!"
She doesn't remember actually doing anything, but let's not burst his bubble.
"Whaaat? What kinda deal is that?!
I wanna put on one of those sweet uniforms and be a student, not sweep up people's junk!"
"If you're not satisfied with my offer, I can arrange to have you thrown out again."
"Myah?! …All right, fine! Let's do it."
Deciding to interrupt before Grim dug his grave any deeper, Yuuki spoke.
"Fair enough.
I mean—
What choice do I have?"
"Wonderful. Then I beseech you both…
to work hard as the newest members of Night Raven College's janitorial staff!"
And just like that, he was gone—as if nothing had happened.
One could think that the longer he stayed with them, the more he wanted to get away.
But she would keep that to herself.
Better not start a useless conflict. It isn't worth the fight.
"Why did you do that?"
She turned to the one who spoke—Grim.
"Do what?"
"Don't play dumb. Why did you help me?"
Now that he mentioned it…
Why did she help him?
"I don't know."
"MYA WHAT?!"
"I don't know why I said that. Frankly, the words just came out of my mouth."
"That's weird, human."
"It's Yuuki."
"Hench—"
"Yuuki."
"…Okay."
„But that wasn't a priority right now.
I feel dead on my feet, and we still haven't figured out where we're going to sleep.“
"Then what are you waiting for? Let's go!"
And off he went up the stairs.
And Yuuki…
Well, she followed him.
After all, as much as she hated to admit it, she'd somehow managed to gain herself a companion.
It didn't take long to find something… decent.
The bed didn't look moth-eaten, and there weren't any bugs.
Aside from the dust, the room was alright—or at least better than the others.
Grim immediately face-planted into the pillow, his snores following not far behind.
Yuuki was eager to follow him, but hesitated.
She hadn't noticed it before, but her hand hurt.
At the time, she'd ignored it.
It wasn't important—nothing here had been important enough to matter for long.
But the pain didn't fade.
It stayed.
It waited.
She slowly looked down.
A wound.
She had a wound.
Real.
Small, but real.
…
Her stomach tightened.
"…Oh."
That was all she said.
Just that.
Her fingers twitched, like they didn't belong to her anymore.
No, no—this was fine. She was fine. It wasn't—
Her breath caught halfway through.
She tried again.
Failed.
Her knees gave out slightly, and she sat down on the bed frame before she realized she had moved.
Finally, the reality of her situation sank in.
This wasn't a DREAM.
This was REAL.
It was reality—her reality.
She could still feel where the flames had burned her.
Oh God.
Grim's flames could have actually hurt her.
The room suddenly felt too large.
Too far away.
Too loud.
Grim was still asleep.
Crowley was gone.
No one was looking at her.
No one would notice.
She was finally alone.
That should have made it easier.
But it didn't.
Slowly, tears began to fall.
She could have actually died.
She—
She…
Where am I?
Why am I the one here?
She'd been scared before.
She had simply been too stubborn to admit it.
Now there was no pretending.
I don't want this.
I don't want this.
I don't want this.
I don't want this.
But worse than that…
She didn't know what came next.
And then she stopped thinking in sentences.
Just fragments.
Too real.
Too much.
Why is this happening to me?
…
That night, the girl fell asleep much later than she would have liked, but luckily, Grim didn't notice.
And if the ghosts did, well, they didn't feel the need to point it out.
………………………………………….......................................
Crowley, having finally returned to his office, sat down at his desk.
The office was quiet.
Far too quiet for Night Raven College.
Crowley's fingers tapped absently against the desk, the only sound breaking the silence.
The stack of reports waited untouched, but his attention wasn't on them.
Some books he had taken from the library on the way were scattered across his desk, all of them containing information about beast tamers.
But he wasn't paying attention to them at the moment, either.
His gaze drifted to the bookshelf.
His reflection stared back at him from the glass of the bookcase.
There was no smile.
He hadn't even noticed it was gone.
"…I really shouldn't."
His fingers lingered in front of the shelf.
Just for a second.
"Surely I'm just overthinking this, but…" he muttered softly.
Then, almost reluctantly, he flicked his fingers.
The concealed compartment clicked open, and a new book emerged.
The leather cover was older than anything else in the room—old and worn, brimming with secrets and magic seals, with the owner's name written across the front in beautiful cursive.
The moment he opened it, the air seemed to shift.
Page after page—notes, diagrams, observations.
Every part held fragments of another life—
places he had visited,
people he had met,
memories he hadn't looked at in years,
things he wanted to forget.
He didn't smile.
He couldn't.
For once, there was no performance.
Only silence.
His fingers slowed as he turned another page.
Normally, Crowley didn't look through his old journal, but this seemed like a good time to go down memory lane…
…after all…
…something like naturally born beast tamers doesn't exist.
Unless-
Chapter 6
The reson most are skared of the dark isn’t nessesarily because they can't see but because they don't know what could be hiding in the dark.
-------------------------------------------------------
The night was quiet. Only the distant sounds of the forest disturbed the silence.
And, of course, the sound of footsteps, followed by the rhythmic tapping of a cane.
Most would be frightened of the dark and the sound of another presence, but Dire Crowley? No.
He was confident in his capabilities of defense.
Besides, it was his own footsteps he was hearing.
Now, Dire may be erratic, but he is no fool.
Exactly because he is no fool, he knows that letting the girl stay isn't going to go well in the long run.
Especially with those boys.
Maybe a talk with the Mirror could give him some ideas of what is going on and help him decide what to do next.
Entering the Mirror Chamber, Crowley found himself surprised.
The Mirror was awake without having been awakened beforehand, as if it were waiting for him.
Waiting.
Watching.
A chill went down his spine.
For a brief moment, he considered turning around.
Made by a talented craftsman and nurtured by one of the Great Seven, it was one of the school's most precious treasures.
And yet, what unsettled Crowley most was its strange personality-as if a soul truly lived within it.
The Mirror is not to be underestimated just because it only answers questions.
Hidden within is knowledge many would want to have.
...
For the first time in years, Crowley found himself choosing his words carefully.
Besides, it can look into a person's soul, and that is giving Crowley the jitters.
But he has come here with a mission.
And that (self-proclaimed) mission he shall fulfill.
So he put on his smiley mask he always used with the students and spoke.
"I must say, never have you managed to leave me quite as speechless as today."
"..."
"Not gonna say anything?"
"..."
"Ah, fine.
Ahem.
Mirror, oh Mirror,
don't tell me lies.
The answers I seek are those you hide,
so please give me the answers with all your might.
It's more important than you realize."
"Oh please, you just don't want to have a freeloader in the school.
Your money is too important to you, after all."
"You know, this attitude is the reason even I am not gracious enough to have regular conversations with you."
"Then cease speaking to me."
Crowley, noticing the face of the Mirror was disappearing, spoke up.
"Why did you choose the girl to come here, from another world no less?"
"Why seek that answer from me?"
"Night Raven only accepts those who are chosen by you, after all.
The carriage answered a summons."
"Not always. Wasn't there this rich kid who bought his acceptance letter-"
"So it is payback for going behind your back last year?!
...
I thought I was the petty one between us two-"
"That would be beneath me."
"You're right."
"I'm not you, after all."
"Could we stay on topic, please?
If you didn't send it, who did?"
"The carriage did not move by my will."
"...
That isn't possible.
Not even I can manipulate the carriages. Only you can, so how-"
"Someone wrote for a carriage to go pick her up."
"What?"
"The carriage answered a written call."
Impossible, Crowley thought.
Absolutely impossible.
"Written?"
Crowley's smile disappeared.
His grip tightened around his cane.
For a moment, the room felt colder-smaller.
No.
That could not be right.
He didn't speak, believing-PRAYING-to have misheard.
Only for the Mirror to confirm his fear.
"I shall not repeat myself."
"But that isn't possible.
I was there.
None of them should be-"
"Then one escaped your notice."
"Tell me-"
"I cannot tell you more.
Only this: the girl's presence serves a greater purpose."
"I cannot just let some random-"
"She was chosen by them for a reason.
Her being here is preferable to the alternative."
"Mirror."
"...Her path has already been laid.
Now she just has to continue walking."
"And what happens at the end?"
"Their intentions are beyond my sight.
Only that they seek to protect.
Do not interfere.
...
The consequences would not favor you."
"I-"
"It is late.
You should return to the young one."
"...B-but-"
"I shall answer no further questions."
"But-"
"The discussion ends here."
"FINE."
"And don't forget to get the girl something to eat.
Pack a portion for two."
"Why two- You know what?
Okay."
Crowley turned to leave, only to be stopped at the doorway by what the Mirror said next.
Its voice sounded different.
Older.
As though someone else were speaking through it.
Crowley's hand froze on the doorknob.
Fear gripped his heart.
"And a message they wanted me to convey:
Time will tell,
fate will flow.
Yes, I did play
what you may hate.
But I beg of you this,
just once I pray:
don't interfere,
or you'll pay."
"...They sound quite hostile to me."
The Mirror didn't say anymore.
No answer.
No explanation.
No reassurance.
The face that was so unusually talkative this quiet night disappeared, leaving the crow alone with his thoughts.
"...
Good night, Mirror.
But please know:
I'll come back,
and then I will need more answers."
He turned and left.
It truly was late.
He would return to Ramshackle.
To the girl who, somehow, had become the center of a mystery even the Mirror refused to explain.
.............................................
Right now, at another place.
The girl, in her panic, took her cloak and frantically started extinguishing the flames, ignoring the burns she sustained on her hands, all the while Grim continued his attacks.
"Myaaah!"
The ghosts, having had enough of this spectacle, decided to retreat.
"Hwaaahhh! We gotta get out of here! Before we get disappeared for good!"
After they left, Grim finally stopped his attacks.
"H-huh? Did we... win?"
Yuuki, having at least extinguished the remains of the crossfire, finally took a breath of relief.
"Even if you almost burned the place down, thanks for your help."
That was incredible! was something she kept to herself. After all, no need to feed his ego.
"Aw, geez, I was scared outta my-"
Noticing his slip-up, he quickly corrected himself:
"I mean, they didn't faze me one bit!
Just a walk in the park for a mage of my caliber! Whaddaya got to say now, ghosties? That's right!"
"Yeah, yeah, you oh-so-brave warrior, how about-"
Suddenly, she was (rudely) interrupted by the front door slamming open and, miraculously, not breaking, allowing a (way too happy-looking) Crowley to walk inside like he owned the place, even though he had already given it to Yuuki.
"Good evening. In another gesture of my immense kindness, I have brought you dinner."
Then he stopped.
His gaze drifted from the scorched curtains...
to the burn marks on the wall...
to Grim.
...
"I left for one evening.
One.
Evening.
...
And the curtains are on fire."
The girl, though, was occupied with other thoughts.
Ghosts.
Fire.
Near-death experiences.
None of them were currently as important as the fact that Crowley had food.
Crowley blinked down at him.
Grim stared at Crowley.
„There is no proof."
Then, seemingly breaking out of his trance, he finally asked the dreaded question:
"Wait. That's the creature we ejected for causing trouble at orientation! What is it doing here?!"
Of course, the cat didn't appreciate the name.
"Takin' care of yer ghost problem, that's what. You're welcome, by the way!"
"What is the meaning of this, Yuuki?"
"Don't look at me.
The cat snuck in."
"Human!"
"Then he started a fire."
"HUMAN!"
"Then he almost started another fire."
"THAT ONE DOESN'T COUNT!"
„The f' you mean, 'doesn't count'?
Oh, and then ghosts showed up talking about killing us."
Confused, Crowley asked:
"What?"
„And lastly, we had to fight them."
The man stared at them.
Then he looked up, seemingly in thought.
"...
But you know, on that topic, I do seem to recall that this dorm had a mischievous ghost problem.
Ah, yes... That's why it was abandoned, in fact. The ghosts scared away all the students."
Then he looked back at Yuuki.
"And you're saying that you two joined forces to drive them away?"
Grim, of course, couldn't accept that statement.
"'Joined forces' ain't exactly how I'd describe it.
More like I drove 'em away, and the human watched. And I only did it 'cause I wanted some tuna."
"I literally had to tell you where they were."
"Details."
Then the cat turned to Yuuki, remembering a VERY important detail.
"Hey... Wait a minute! I never got those cans of tuna ya promised!"
"The fact that you actually thought I, a person forced into this dump, have a can of tuna-much less money to buy one-would be hilarious if it weren't so sad-"
Crowley: "Would you two be so kind as to demonstrate your ghost-eradication methods for me?"
Slowly, they turned to look at the headmage, giving him a long, tired stare.
Especially Yuuki.
Then Grim broke the silence with a scrunched-up face.
Grim: "One, no, 'cause I already wiped 'em all out. And two, no, 'cause where's my tuna?!"
Crowley ignored him, of course and instead asked the Girl.
"What do you say, Miss Yuuki?"
"No."
"No?"
"N.O."
Then she realized something.
"Wait-you want us to attack YOU, the principal?"
Upon hearing her question, Grim as well realized something.
"Wait."
...
"You're giving me permission to attack the headmage?"
"It's headmage, and yes."
...
"This is the best school ever."
Yuuki, though, had other concerns.
"...You do realize that sounds illegal-
right?"
"Details." came the answer to her question from both males.
Crowley, not seeing a problem with this, came up with a very suicidal-sounding solution.
"I will play the part of the ghosts.
As for the tuna, you'll receive it when you defeat me.
..."
Crowley blinked.
"I feel as though I have made a mistake."
But then he recovered his façade.
"Oh, what generosity, Crowley...
Now, to chug this transmutation potion!"
"Ah, you gotta be kiddin' me. I gotta work together with the human again?"
"Are you serious-This could be your chance to enroll!"
"...You think he is actually going to enroll me?"
"...Do it for the tuna, Master Sorcerer!"
Grim froze.
Crowley watched.
Yuuki watched.
...
Grim: "Hrmph.
All right, but this is the last time. And I better be up to my jowls in tuna afterwards!"
"How touching.
...
The beginning of a beautiful friendship."
"No."
"NO."
Crowley: "Such modesty."
Yuuki: "Drink the potion so we can legally beat your ass... please."
He downed the potion.
"Now, then! Let us see you expel ME as a ghost! Go on! Don't be shy about striking me. I'm much too kind to be riled over that."
"Okay, but you asked for it! There better be some tuna waitin' for me after this!"
Grim, of course, never does anything without getting something in return.
That Yuuki realized rather early on.
"Now, let us commence!"
Grim was happy to start.
"Okay."
Yuuki, though, still had some doubts.
"I am so not sure about this."
And it begins.
'I feel like I am going to sleep 14 hours after this.'
She noticed the crow ghost.
"Grim! To the left!"
"To the left? Got it! Taste my flames!"
They hit the man dead center.
In a way, it seemed to impress him.
"My, does that ever smart! You've impressed me!
...
I may have to up the difficulty a smidge."
Up the difficulty? the girl thought, repeating the sentence in her head till it clicked.
(The words took a second to register.)
The realization hit.
Oh.
Oh, that's not good.
"Myah?! Why'd he get so fast all of a sudden?!"
Shit-this isn't just some old geezer.
"Can you keep up with me NOW?"
Ah.
He's having fun.
We are doomed.
"Hmph, I can and I will! This is child's play for the great Grim!"
"Don't get cocky, concentrate!"
Grim misses.
Grim misses again.
Crowley watches.
Another fireball flies in the wrong direction.
...
Five minutes later.
"I may have overestimated the monster," Crowley thought.
Another fireball misses.
"Significantly."
Her warning did nothing, and ultimately they lost.
"Hey, human! Let's speed up the directions here! I ain't hittin' squat!"
"If I could, I WOULD!"
"I suggest you both get your acts together if you wish to emerge victorious. My kindness has its limits, I regret to say, and losers don't get to eat tuna."
That alone shocked Grim to the core.
"WHAT?! No way! I want iiit!"
He turned to Yuuki, giving his own version of a motivational speech.
"We gotta win this, okay?! My tuna's at stake here!"
Then he had an idea.
"I wonder just how many you can elude at once? MYAH-YAH-YAAAH!"
But sadly, even though he sent a bunch of fire toward the ghost, he didn't hit.
"Well, I'll be."
Pause.
Another fireball missed him by several meters.
"The confidence is admirable."
That made both students mad.
So Yuuki helped-telling him everything.
"Up."
"Right."
"To the left."
"LEFT!"
"No, the other left!"
"HOW DO YOU KEEP FORGETTING WHICH LEFT IS LEFT?!"
"Behind."
"Humans have too many lefts!"
"That's not how directions work!"
"IN FRONT OF YOU."
"Back."
"He is hiding behind the curtain."
"NO, you do NOT send fire at him!"
After a missed shot:
"Please stop aiming at the curtains."
Another shot:
"The curtains have done nothing to deserve this."
Another shot:
"Why are you still aiming at the curtains?"
And eventually-
"Hah... Hah... I got every last one...
Hey, human! You're killin' me here! You don't gotta be so rough, ya know."
Crowley-now no longer testing them-was deep in thought.
"Hmm... That could loosely be described as 'joining forces with a monster.' Though your directions and the monster's magic could both use some work."
Slightly insulted, she countered:
"Excuse you, I didn't really have training in dealing with-"
"Yo! Nobody talks about the great Grim that way! You wanna see magic?! I'll show you magic! Myah-PHOO!"
Now that one the crow just barely evaded.
"This is quite enough! Must everything in this school attempt to set itself on fire the moment I turn my back?! You there! Direct your monster to settle down!"
He was no longer a ghost.
That could have hurt me! Crowley thought.
And then he noticed it.
"My feathers!
You singed my feathers!
Do you have any idea how difficult these are to maintain?!"
"I really don't want to, though.
Honestly? If he hits you, that's between you two."
"Mya-ha."
Grim immediately stopped attacking.
Crowley stared.
Yuuki stared.
Grim stared back.
"What?"
"WHAT?!"

Chapter 5
Sometimes the best people in life are those you didn’t see coming.
Or those that tried to turn you into hot skewers when you first met.
——————————————----------------------
The further they walked from the main building, the quieter it became.
Ramshackle Dorm was located quite a bit away from the main building.
How the school could have such a big piece of land was beyond the girl's comprehension.
Schould she be happy it is so far away?
This is suposedly a school filled to the brim with teenage boys.
When they arrived, Yuuki was in shock while Crowley enthusiastically made his way to the front door.
Or at least what was left of it.
The building looked like something straight out of a horror movie.
Large. Dark. Silent.
And completely falling apart.
One of the windows looked as though it had been broken for so long that the ivy had started treating it like a doorway.
…holding itselftogethr through pure stubborness.
It was an abandoned, Gothic-style mansion.
Now don’t get her wrong.
Normally, Yuuki didn’t have anything against vintage things.
Rather liked it, actually.
But sadly, the worn-down, aged, and cracked walls paired with dusty furniture and clear signs of neglect weren’t her cup of tea.
she spoke up, hopfull this whole situation was a bad joke from the birdface
Yuuki: “Uh, you want me to stay… here?”
to her dissapointment
that didn‘t seem to be the case
Crowley: “Right, scoot inside now. There you go.”
Yuuki: “I think this is too much character, if you ask me.”
Crowley: “Isn't it delightful?”
he treats it like luxury
she sees horror
and then
He walked inside, too confident she’d follow.
if she could, she wouldn’t, believe her.
But to her dismay, she didn’t have another choice.
When she entered, she was not prepared.
If it already looked bad from the outside, then the inside was horrific.
The hallway was a long, narrow corridor with dark wooden floors.
It had faded wallpaper and worn walls.
The dim lighting created deep shadows.
And the old doors led to storage rooms and bedrooms.
right, bedroom
She would have to look for one later, right?
Well, the dust and cobwebs didn’t make her happy about having to look around.
After all
She wasn’t the biggest fan of spiders.
Crowley called her from what she believed was the lounge area.
It was large and dimly lit, just as dusty and abandoned-looking as the rest of the place.
The old, worn furniture was centered around a large fireplace with a mirror hanging above it.
looking in to it, She couldn’t even make out her reflection…
At least the color scheme was nice?
Dark brown, gray, and faded green tones, giving it a cozy but haunted atmosphere.
Our outlander?
Outworlder?
…
Outdimensioner!
…watether
Was just glad nothing seemed moth-eaten, but she’d have to look more closely later.
…………………
Crowley, who was waiting for her to finally snap out of her judgmental trance, lost his patience.
It was too late for him to deal with this.
So he spoke up.
“This should keep the elements at bay for the time being.
Now, I should return to my research. Do try to find some way to busy yourself.
But don't let me catch you wandering the campus! Ta!”
And promptly left.
Yuuki:„It's like a desolate snowscape. Only with dust…I don't even see a clean place to sit.”
Suddenly, a raindrop landed on her head from one of the holes in the ceiling, causing her to look up.
Yuuki: “Looks like it's started to rain.”
And then HE appeared.
Jumping through the broken window as if he wasn’t just breaking into her new mansion.
(She might as well make the best of the situation, she thought. Surely she could make the place at least a bit prettier? Or more livable?)
Grim: “GWAH! It's pouring out there!”
Yuuki: “Wah!”
Grim, noticing her surprised face, couldn’t help but laugh.
“Bwahaha! That look on your face is priceless! Like a bat that got blasted by a water gun.
As if I wouldn't just sneak back onto campus the second I escaped prying eyes. You all got no idea what I'm capable of!
I ain't givin' up on goin' here just 'cause I got kicked out one measly ol' time. And if you think otherwise, you don't know Grim!”
She felt a sweatdrop fall from her temple.
Was this thing-guy serious?
Oh, her head. She is way too exhausted to deal with this headache bevore her.
Yuuki: “Guards! Guaaaaaards!”
Panicked, the feline spoke up:
“Hey! No! Bad human! BAD HUMAN! Ain't you gonna ask what I'm doin' here? That's what you people do, right? Talk about feelings and stuff? Just what kinda human are ya, anyway? It wouldn't kill ya to listen to me! Right?!”
Yuuki:… “Alright, I’ll humor you: Why are you so determined to go to this school?”
Grim: “Isn't it obvious?”The cat boasted, only for the girl to give him a deadpan stare:
“No, and you are the one who wanted me to ask!?”
Grim: “I was born to do this! I'm a magical prodigy who's got the makings to become one of the greatest mages who ever lived! So I've been waitin' and waitin' for that black carriage to come for me.”
His tone changed, sounding more sad.
“And yet… Hrmph! That Dark Mirror's got no eye for talent! That's why I took the initiative and came here myself. You humans don't understand what a mistake you're makin'! Not lettin' me in is a great loss to the world!”
After that brave declaration, a couple of raindrops decided to land on him.
“Mraow! C'mon, scoot over! I'm getting dripped on here! Bwah! Another hole in the roof! These flamin' ears are like my trademark, y'know? I can't let 'em get doused!”
Yuuki, while she did feel a bit of empathy for the little guy, decided not to make that obvious. After all, he was still a pain in the neck.
Yuuki: “Good luck. The ceiling's riddled with holes. Guess I'll go look for some buckets.”
Grim: “I dunno why you don't just magic those holes away. You could have it fixed in half a jiff. Ahhh, right. You can't use magic at all. Pffft, man you're useless.”
The kitty jabbed, as if he himself had the needed capabilities to do it.
Though his comment did have an effect on the one before him.
Yuuki: “Then why don't you do it?! Hrmph!”
Grim: “Heh? You want ME to help YOU? Ha! You got the wrong idea. I'm just a stranger takin' shelter from the rain. You ain't the boss of me. If ya had some cans of tuna to trade, well, that'd be another story. But I don't work for free.”
Yuuki: “Then why don’t I just throw you out?” she talked to herself not directly to the cat, but still so he could hear.
Grim: “You'd throw a guy in need of shelter out? How heartless!!!”
Yuuki: “Not really, if I take into consideration how you acted till now. You actually had it coming.”
A raindrop landed on her head, making a shiver run down her back.
It was chilly, and while the clothes she wore (still not sure who changed her, but she’ll ignore it for now) gave some warmth, she didn’t think it would help much if they got drenched by the water that actually got into the house.
“Yikes, the leaks are really getting bad. …About those buckets.”
She walked back into the hallway, ignoring the flame-eared monster that took shelter under the couch.
She wished she could have recorded his cute sneeze—for blackmail purposes, of course—but sadly her phone was somewhere unknown, or maiby back in her world.
While walking through the place, she suddenly heard a creak from down the hallway.
The dim—or better said, no lighting—didn’t help a lot with the freaky atmosphere.
Yuuki: “This place really freaks me out. I think I just heard something?!”
When she was about to open a door,
Her hand stopped halfway to it.
She stepped back without realizing it.
and then a face suddenly phased through it.
„Gaaah!“
Giving her a heart attack.
Yuuki stared wide eyed.
"…That's a mask."
denial is sometinmes the best course of action
The face blinked.
"…That's not a mask."
sadly sometimes isn‘t in the face of danger
???: “Yee hee hee… Bwa ha ha ha ha ha! We haven't had visitors in ages! Oh, I'm just itchin' for new friends! Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha!”
Yuuki:“Bwaaaaaaahhhhhh! Gh-gh-ghosts!
damn it! I was joking when I said haunted!"
…Realisation struck her.
Friends? As in DEAD FRIENDS? the scared bunny thought.
Why is everyone trying to kill me today?! she cried.
Hearing the fear in the bunny lookalike amused the old soul greatly.
This one was on the chubbier side.
Hearing the commotion, another two ghosts showed up—one skinny and tall, the other smaller than the other two.
All three of them wore heads paired with capes.
Their clothes seemed old and used, in the same condition as the rest of the mansion.
Her screams also got the attention from the intruder downstairs.
Grim: “Hey, keep it down over—”
Only for him to also meet the floating (and dead) resident from upstairs.
AAAAAH! GHOSTS! GHOOOOOSTS!
Thin ghost: “All the people who used to live here got scared of us and ran away.”
Fat ghost: “We just want a new ghost to play with! What do you say, buddy?”
Yuuki: “Help me! They're gonna kill me!
I cant die in a hunted house on day one!“
Hearing her scream sent a shiver down Grim’s spine.
Grim:“Eeeeep!”
But he can’t just die here, he thought.
He worked so hard to get to this school!
“I’m a master sorcerer! I ain't afraid of any dumb ghosts!
Myahaaa!”
Having a sudden sprout of confidence, he sent a fireball at them.
Sadly… he missed.
Thin ghost: “Nuh-uh. Not even close.”
Fat ghost: “Over here! Over here! Ah ha ha ha!”
Instead, his flames hit their surroundings.
How a fire didn't start was beyond Yuuki's comprehension.
Realising he can’t hit them, frustration took over.
“Argh! They keep disappearing and reappearing!”
Yuuki: “You're gonna set the whole dorm ablaze!” she scolded in her panic.
She had priorities, and not burning the house down was further up on her list than ghosts.
I mean—nothing more painful than burning alive, right?
And while Grim didn’t start a fire in the mansion yet… the “yet” was definitely there.
But she noticed something else as well.
Yuuki: “You can't aim with your eyes closed!”
How she didn’t faint at his stupidity yet was a miracle.
Grim: “Shaddup! I don't need any lip from you, human!”
Right.
She had forgotten—he has more pride than the average human.
Think, Yuuki. THINK.
Ah!
Yuuki: “Maybe the headmage will let you enroll if you get rid of them? And if you beat them, then I've got a can of tuna with your name on it!”
Grim: “Myah…? Hmph… I'm Grim, Master Sorcerer! How come I can't even hit one of these little—”
The feline couldn’t deny it.
That did sound tempting, he thought, salivating just at the thought of the last part Yuuki said.
He was brought back to reality by the ghosts’ laughter.
Ghosts: “Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha!”
“Hrmph! Ganging up on us… Yer a buncha cowards!”
Yuuki: “M-maybe I can help?”
Grim:“Myaaaah…”
Yuuki:“Did I say one can of tuna? I meant two!”
Grim:“You, human! You tell me which way the ghosts are!”
Yuuki: “You got it! To your left!”
and that is where he aimed-dead center
“Aaaaah! It buuuurns!”
Grim: “Ha, got one! Keep it up, just like that… And let's clear out the whole lot of 'em!”
And just like that, the fight began.
Yuuki: “Left!”
Grim: “Phoo! Phoo! Myah-yah-yah! PHOOOOO!”
(Small Ghost)B: “Missed by a country mile. Heh heh heh!”
Grim: “RRRGH! Hey, human! You gotta be more clear with your directions! I can't hear you!”
Yuuki: “Don't blame me if you're the one closing your eyes!”
The ghosts did not like being excluded, it seemed.
(Fat Ghost) C: “OoOOoh, secret talk? I want in, c'mooon!”
Grim: “MYAAAH! NO! You stay way, WAY back!”
Yuuki: “UP, next to the chandelier!”
Grim: “PHOOOOO!”
Surprisingly, Grim hit the ghost.
“Now THAT'S more like it! I knew I was a total whiz with magic!
The great Grim can handle more than a few ghosts without some human's help!
MYAHAHAHA!”
Though this resulted in another one showing up in front of Grim's nose.
B: “Pfft! Hahahaha!”
Grim: “MYAH?!
HUMAN! You gotta tell me if you see a ghost that's about ready to spook me!”
Yuuki: “I didn't see him either!?”
Grim:“Rrrgh! My fire's not hittin' anything!”
Yuuki: “Then maybe pay more attention!”
Grim:“What's that? You're sayin' you want me to listen? Sounds like a pain to me…”
Yuuki: “Behind you!”
Grim:“Huh? ‘Behind me’?”
B: “BOO!”
Grim: “MYAH!
O-o-okay, that one was pretty good!”
Yuuki: “Now shoot!”
Grim:“PHOO! PHOOOOO!”
C: “Yeowch!”
(Thin Ghost)A: “That burns!”
Grim: “Nice! That actually worked!
Hey, human! What should I do next?"
Yuuki:“ I‘ve had enuth of this
you want to know what well do?
We’ll glve them work!"
Grim:“Give 'em the works? Heh! Can do!
Myaaah… Eat THIS!”
Just as they were all gone, they reappeared again.
“GAH!”
Yuuki: “OH, YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!”
C: “Heh heh! You're looking real spooked, so that's a big win in a ghost's book!”
B: “Come on, now. One of us… One of us…”
Yuuki: “What's with that chanting?
Sounds stupid!”
B: “…What was that?”
Yuuki: “Ya heard me!”
Noticing the dark expression on the phantom's face gave Grim a fright.
Grim: “Eeep! Hey, human! If you got any cool tricks up your sleeve, better use 'em now!
Of course you don't. You can't even use magic! Oh, I've had it up to here!
Myah! Myah! MYAAAH!”
Yuuki: “Randomly starting to hit everything around you is NOT how to win this shit!”
…
The curtain caught on fire.
Yuuki: “…”
Grim: “…”
A: “…”
B: “…”
C: “…”
The three ghosts: “OUR HOUSE!”
Yuuki: “WHAT DID YOU DO?!!!”
Grim: “THEY STARTED IT!”

Chapter 4
Even after years of study, the human mind is still one of the most complex things to understand.
While actions and reactions can often be predicted, people are still capable of making decisions no one anticipates.
After all, no one expected Alice to go against a system she had only known for a short time, and even fewer expected her—a little girl—to challenge a Queen.
..........................................................................................
Crowley dragged Yuuki back to the library where she had first met him. The crow was determined to find out where she came from and had gathered an entire stack of books he thought might contain the answer.
Yuuki was forced into reading them as well, and even though she was exhausted, she complied.
After all, the sooner she got back home, the sooner she could forget this nonsense.
Talking tanukis. Magic. Turning into some kind of bunny-human hybrid.
If someone had pitched this as a book, she would have called it unrealistic—complete nonsense, even.
Frankly, she wanted to take a hot bath, crawl into bed, and maybe read another story before finally falling asleep at some unholy hour.
But at the same time…
Did she even want to go back?
The question lingered longer than it should have.
Maybe it was because of her memories.
She had noticed early on that her memory wasn’t the best. She couldn’t remember anything from before she arrived at the orphanage. Even while growing up, she often forgot small details—or most bad memories altogether. Traumatic or frightening moments stayed vivid, but the emotions tied to them dulled over time. Once those emotions faded, the memories themselves blurred and disappeared.
And yet, sometimes she could recall the smallest details—like something that had changed in a room since the last time she had seen it.
She never understood how her mind worked. But one thing she was certain of right now:
She tried to picture the people she had grown up with.
Nothing.
Faces blurred together like smeared ink. Names slipped away the moment she reached for them. The longer she stayed here, the more she forgot about her life back home.
And on that note… how had she gotten here in the first place?
Everything from before waking up inside that coffin was slowly disappearing.
On the other hand, since she had woken up, every detail had been as clear as day. She remembered everything with frightening clarity, and right now that was far more interesting than reading those books.
Could she even talk to the headmage about this? Would he care? He seemed eager to get rid of her.
Out of sight, out of mind, or something like that.
But she wasn’t sure.
She was so tired she could barely process what was happening anymore.
Though there was one thing she knew for certain.
She was scared.
..........................................................................................
The girl was deep in thought until an annoying voice snapped her out of it.
Crowley: “Just as I suspected. Nothing.”
-Ah, it was Crowley’s voice. Ups.-
“Not only is your homeland absent from every map in recorded history, but there are no references to it at all. Now, are you quite sure you come from such a place? That this isn’t some sort of lie or jape?
Because if you are telling the truth, the only explanation is that you came from another planet. Or perhaps you were summoned here from another dimension.”
Yuuki: “Another planet or another dimension?! …Which one is supposed to be worse?”
Naturally, he ignored the question.
Crowley: “Show me everything you brought here with you. Do you have any form of identification? A driver’s license, perhaps? Or even a… shoe? You do seem rather empty-handed.”
Yuuki: “Come to think of it, where are my wallet and phone?! Oh fu—”
-Crowley gave her a look.-
“…Listen, I’m going to say ‘fuck,’ okay? I’m in an unfamiliar place that just so happens to be an all-boys school, and—ugh…
…
As you said, I’ve got nothing.”
Crowley: “Well, this is quite the predicament. I cannot have someone with no aptitude for magic wandering around my academy. And yet, as an educator, I am loath to expel a young person who has neither money nor any way to contact a guardian…
Truly, my grace is boundless.
Hmmmmm… Ah!
There is a vacant building on this campus. It was once used as a dormitory long ago. With a proper cleaning, it should be habitable enough.
Out of the profound kindness of my heart, I will allow you to live there for the time being.
Meanwhile, we will investigate other ways to send you home.
Dear me, I truly am a gracious man. A model educator, one might say.
Well then, I shall take you to your dormitory straight away. It is an older building, but it has plenty of… character.”
Somehow, she had the feeling that “plenty of character” was not reassuring.
Could she just stay in the library instead?
She would treat the books well and be perfectly happy there—she swears!
..........................................................................................
Crowley may have appeared foolish, but that was simply a mask he indulged in.
He was a fae, after all.
Creatures like him grew bored over the centuries, and being the headmaster of this school was certainly one way to cure that boredom—even if the students sometimes made him want to strangle them.
Though, sadly, the law forbade such things. Still, some of them truly deserved a good old-fashioned beating.
Over the years, he had witnessed many unexplainable events, but what had happened today ranked high on the list.
For the Dark Mirror to summon a strange girl from another dimension… and to transform her…
That was something he didn’t think even one of the Draconia bloodline could accomplish. Maybe. He wasn’t entirely sure, and frankly, he didn’t think he wanted to find out.
The whole situation felt like something out of a story.
Yes, a story.
A girl suddenly appears out of nowhere at an all-boys school, chaos follows in her wake, and somehow she ends up befriending the so-called “bad boys” or something equally absurd.
Ugh. He was getting goosebumps.
Medieval novels were, in Crowley’s opinion, far superior to those ridiculous high-school dramas.
…
The girl wasn’t going to destroy his school, right?
RIGHT?!
-------------------------------------------------------
Hiiii!
Sorry it took so long to update.
Life happened, and school happened too.
Stress, studying, and annoying presentations (I’m a nervous wreck in front of large groups of people) turned the past two weeks into torture, and it all ended with me getting sick.
I hope you liked this chapter, even if it was short.
I noticed recently that a lot of writers do something different with their formatting…
Should I do that too, or is the way I write now okay?
Chapter 3
Rolling, there is another head
That is because my queen is mad.
I don't think I can confess,
It'd be an even bigger mess.
I can't even say I'm sorry,
She'd feed me to the Jabberwocky.
The rules I have to follow,
Or it'll be my head tomorrow.
——————————————————----
"Off with your head!" Riddle snapped, sounding almost mad himself.
A streak of crimson magic shot through the air.
Before Grim could react, a heart-shaped collar snapped around his neck with a metallic click, one half red, the other black, with a lock at the front.
Grim: "MYAH?! What are you doing?!"
the flamethrower asked while clawing at the heart-shaped collar.
Riddle: "The Queen of Hearts' Rule 23: 'One must never bring a cat to a formal affair.'
Your very presence here is a violation of order. You will vacate these premises immediately."
he declared while angrily pointing at the housecat—
Grim: "But I ain't a cat either!"
—Oops, sorry, 'housekitty.'
„Don't try to collar me! I'll burn it right off!
Huh...? Wh-what gives? My fire ain't workin'!"
Grim exclaimed. He seemed surprised and angry
but if one listened closely
they could hear the anxiousness and fear in his voice.
Riddle: "Until I deign to remove that collar, you won't be using any magic. You're naught but a pet cat now."
Riddle's smirk sharpened.
Grim: "M-meoWHAT?! I ain't nobody's pet—NOTHING!"
Riddle: "Oh, you've nothing to worry about there. I certainly have no interest in having you as a pet,"
he jabbed, then explained,
"The collar will disappear once you're removed from campus."
Azul: "Ha-HA! Good show as always, Riddle. Your signature spell locks down any magic. It's quite handy."
he complimented,
then muttered under his breath,
"I've just GOT to have it—ah, I mean, I've just got to have respect for it."
The mafia boss corrected himself, hoping no one heard him.
Finally, Crowley stopped panicking. Seemingly remembering something,
Yuuki.
He turned to where she stood, still in front of the mirror.
He decided to ignore how she was using the magic mirror as a...
well...
mirror, and instead scolded her.
Crowley: "MC! Was I not clear that you are expected to take responsibility for your familiar?
Now discipline your—"
Yuuki: "I've never seen that creature before in my life!"
she finally snapped, fed up with this nonsense.
Crowley: "What's that? It isn't yours?"
Yuuki: "I've told you repeatedly that it isn't mine!"
Crowley: "Oh... Is that so?"
(awkward silence)
"Ahem. Then I shall have it expelled from campus. I shall even spare it from being served as dinner.
My, but I am kind.
...Someone take this away, please."
Two students came and dragged the party crasher out.
Grim: "Nooooo! Let me gooooo!"
but not without some complaints.
"You fools better remember my name!
'Cause I'm gonna go down in the annals of magic history! Just you wait!"
...
Yuuki: "I feel kind of sorry for him.
I wonder why he was so desperate to stay here?"
After all, surely he had a goal.
Crowley: "Well, that was quite the unexpected fracas.
I hereby declare that orientation has concluded.
Housewardens, please escort your students back to the dorms.
...Hm?
Come to think of it, I don't see Housewarden Draconia of House Diasomnia anywhere."
Leona: "And that surprises you? Dude's a total recluse."
Kalim: "Wait a sec... Did anyone even invite him?"
Vil: "If you're that worried about him missing out, maybe you should have told him yourself."
Kalim: "Maybe, but I don't know him too well either..."
Student A: "Draconia... Like, Malleus Draconia? THAT Draconia?"
Student B: "So it's true? He really does go to school here?"
Student C: "Yikes."
Boy with Deep Voice: "Ah. Just as I'd expected.
I figured I'd come down and see for myself whether Malleus had made an appearance.
But once again, he was evidently not informed that his presence was required at an official ceremony."
Lilia Vanrouge sighed.
Azul: "You have my sincerest apologies. I assure you, this oversight was in no way intended as a snub."
Yuuki somehow doubted that.
Riddle: "I mean, you must admit, he's not exactly the easiest person to strike up a conversation with."
Lilia: "No matter. All who were assigned to House Diasomnia, follow me. I just hope he doesn't sulk about this."
he muttered the last part, not expecting anyone to hear him.
Yet he was surprised to see a white bunny ear turn in his direction.
Looking over, he saw Crowley talking to a boy—no, a girl?
Lilia: "Since when did NRC have female students?"
Crowley: "...What?
No, of course not.
I mean, can you imagine?
A girl at this school?
Haha! Good one."
Nobody laughed.
Crowley's smile slowly disappeared.
...
The entire student body was looking at Yuuki. After all, she was the only one Lilia could possibly be talking about.
Crowley, nervously: "Why do you ask?"
Slowly, he looked from student to student in confusion.
Then the birdbrain noticed where everyone was looking.
His gaze landed on Yuuki.
Silence filled the chamber.
Yuuki stared at him.
One bunny ear twitched.
Then the other.
Crowley smiled nervously.
"...Ah."
Only to be grabbed by the front of his cape and suddenly find an angry Yuuki—no longer wearing the hood—in his face.
And Yuuki?
Well...
her patience had finally snapped.
Yuuki: "OMG! Are you serious right now?!"
Crowley: "Huh?"
Yuuki: "How about you listen to me for five seconds?!
First: I wake up in a coffin!
Second: I get chased around a castle by a cat that wants to fry me alive!"
One hand was shaking Crowley back and forth while the other jabbed a finger into his chest.
"Third: I get treated like a troublemaker by a guy who calls himself a headmage and tells me about magic—
Fourth: MAGIC ISN'T REAL LAST TIME I CHECKED!!!"
Her voice echoed through the chamber.
Nobody dared interrupt her.
"Fifth: I find out I'm suddenly some bunny-person-something?!
Sixth: YOU didn't even realize I was a girl in an ALL-BOYS SCHOOL?!
And somehow the weirdest part of YOUR day is that I'm a GIRL?!
I mean, how stupid can you possibly be?!"
Crowley: "..."
Riddle: "..."
Azul: "..."
Leona: "Damn."
Kalim: "..."
Vil: "..."
Idia's iPad: (fangirling internally: Rabbit ears omg she looks like an anime character)
Lilia: "Pft."
Students: "..."
The aftermath of her outburst was a quiet ordeal. The students here were only happy not to be scolded as well.
No matter how tough or egotistical NRC students were, most of them had respect for women—or at least their mothers.
And right now, the angry Yuuki was giving them traumatic flashbacks.
(The slippers.)
While Yuuki was still demanding answers from the headmage and shaking him like a ragdoll, the housewardens had slowly come to a decision.
That decision was...
to ditch the one on the front lines.
To Crowley's dismay.
So slowly, they made their way out of the Mirror Chamber.
Some tiptoed, others pretending like all was well and they had nothing to do with the headmage.
Leona was the first to leave.
"Good luck with that," he muttered, already halfway out the door.
Vil gracefully turned away as though this entire situation offended him personally.
Kalim looked guilty for approximately three seconds before following the others.
Azul quietly pretended he had somewhere else to be.
Idia had already disappeared.
Even Lilia ushered the students away, laughing silently all the way.
After a couple of minutes, the younger one had calmed down and released Crowley—
(who was slowly turning blue)
Crowley: "Ahem. While I don't know what happened, I am sure it will go away once you return home."
Yuuki: "Return?"
Crowley: "Well, Yuuki. This is a most unfortunate turn of events.
I'm afraid that you will not be attending Night Raven College after all.
Surely you realize that I cannot very well admit a student with no magical ability to my academy.
But worry not. The Dark Mirror will see you safely home.
Now, step into the gate, and visualize the place whence you came."
While Yuuki was skeptical that this guy was even capable of returning her home, she was still immensely relieved.
Yuuki: "Phew...
What a long dream this was."
But...
Was she dreaming?
No dream had ever felt this real.
Crowley: "O Dark Mirror! Return this soul to where it belongs!"
The Dark Mirror: "......"
The chamber fell silent.
Even the candle flames seemed to dim.
The Dark Mirror's surface rippled like black water.
Crowley: "Ahem.
L-let us, er... try this again.
O Dark Mirror! Return this soul—"
The Dark Mirror: "There is no such place."
Crowley: "What?"
Yuuki: "Oh, you've got to be kidding me!"
Upon her putburst, Crowley instinctively took two hurried steps back, feathers puffing in alarm.
The Dark Mirror: "There is no place in this world where this soul belongs.
None."
Crowley: "How can that be? My, but today is a veritable cavalcade of impossible phenomena!"
The Dark Mirror: "......"
Crowley: "This has never happened throughout my long tenure. I must confess that I am at something of a loss.
Tell me: From what land do you hail?"
Yuuki: "Sure. I'm from St. Marie Orphanage...the one in Germany."
Crowley: "I'm afraid I am not familiar with such a place."
Yuuki: "The orphanage or the land?"
Crowley: "Both.
I am intimately acquainted with the origins of every student who has ever come here, and yet... this mysterious homeland of yours eludes me.
Let us go to the library and look it up, shall we?
Maybe we will even find out more about your... condition."
...
The girl didn't know how to feel about this.
She was scared—
and angry.
At the end of the day, she didn't think anybody was looking for her.
Nobody back home would even notice she was gone for a while.
Maybe not even after days.
After all, people disappeared all the time back home, and no one looked for them.
Ah, that's right. Nobody cared.
Her chest felt hollow.
No home.
No explanation.
No way back.
Her hands trembled, though whether from fear or rage she couldn't tell anymore.
Suddenly, her thoughts were interrupted.
The Dark Mirror: "She's sorry."
Yuuki froze.
Her heartbeat stuttered painfully in her chest.
Yuuki: "...What?"
no answer...
„Who?" the girl asked again
The mirror's surface trembled faintly.
The Dark Mirror: "The one who writes the story."
Cold spread down her spine.
Yuuki: "I don—"
Crowley: "Are you coming, Miss Bani?"
Yuuki hadn't even realized the headmage had already left.
Yuuki: "Ah, yes. Right away."
She followed him, deciding to forget what the Mirror told her.
It couldn't be important, she thought.
Only later would she regret this decision, wishing she had asked the Mirror more.
——————————————————----
Dude. Writing fear and serious emotions is HARD.
I'm not sure how well the szene at the end it but overall I am happy with how it turned out.
Chapter 2
It was a normal orientation.
Well... as normal as Night Raven College could have it.
But... eh. That, to the dismay of some, was going to change soon.
But don't tell them yet.
Well then, let's start, shall we?
———————————————————
While Dire Crowley, the still VERY confused Yuuki, and... the weasel were on their way to the Mirror Chamber, the orientation was slowly coming to its end.
At least, that's what Yuuki noticed from the conversation she could hear and slowly make out better.
Though she didn't think Crowley could hear anything until they were actually standing before the doors.
And...
well...
he was listening in.
Yeah.
He definitely got a judgmental look from her when he decided to press his ear against the door.
Either he's being dramatic or he has really bad hearing, the girl thought.
But well, she was listening in as well, so maybe she shouldn't judge?
No.
Judging other people was definitely more entertaining.
...
Wait.
What was that about decapitation?
Yuuki: "Crowley, scoot over and quit breathing so loud. This sounds interesting."
(The man looked offended, but decided listening in was more important at the moment.)
———————————————————
On the other side of the door:
Short Red-Haired Boy: "We're done with orientation and dorm assignments? All right, new students — let me be clear. At Heartslabyul House, I am the law. Break the rules, and it's off with your head!"
Riddle Rosehearts declared.
Boy with Lion Ears: "Yawn... Well, that ceremony was as boring as ever. I'm going back to the dorm. If you're in Savanaclaw House, follow me."
The boy with ears like those of a kitty spoke lazily. His name was Leona Kingscholar.
Boy with Glasses: "New students! Allow me to be the first to congratulate you on your achievement. As dorm leader of Octavinelle House, I am honored to have the opportunity to support you in what I hope will be a fulfilling campus experience."
Azul Ashengrotto declared smoothly.
But be careful with that one.
He gave off mafia vibes.
Handsome Boy: "Hey, does anyone know where the headmage went? He disappeared midway through the ceremony..."
Vil Schoenheit questioned.
A true beauty, just like his name suggested.
Voice from Tablet: "Some headmage he is..."
Likely not realizing he had said that out loud.
Poor Idia Shroud.
He'd probably have a heart attack when he found out.
Boy with Red Eyes: "Maybe he had a tummyache?"
Kalim Al-Asim, ever the optimist, suggested cheerfully.
But that wasn't appreciated by the man listening outside.
So, with a clearly displeased expression, he dramatically pushed open the doors and exclaimed in an offended voice:
Crowley: "I most certainly did not!"
.......................................................................
Yuuki expected to see a lot when the doors opened.
But not that the Mirror Chamber would remind her of a villain's lair.
...Or at least the place where they had their weird monologues.
(She always thought they should just kill the hero already.)
It was a massive circular chamber with towering ceilings.
The room was mostly black in color, with glowing blue flames igniting the candles around it.
The arched windows were enormous, decorated with ornate pillars similar to the ones she had seen in the courtyard.
The floor had magical circle patterns carved into reflective marble-like stone.
And of course, at the center stood the giant Mirror.
The entire place looked like a cathedral mixed with a throne room.
But that wasn't the first detail she noticed.
No.
The first thing she noticed were the people.
So many people.
And all of them were dressed in the same cult-like clothing.
The orientation uniform looked less like actual school clothing and more like something a suspicious magic cult would wear before summoning an ancient evil.
Not that Yuuki was judging.
...Okay, no. She absolutely was.
The robes were completely black and long enough to nearly drag across the floor when people walked. The fabric looked heavy, layered, and weirdly expensive.
Oh shit, she thought.
I'm wearing the same thing.
Thanks to the hood of the outfit, she couldn't see their faces.
Was it the same with her?
She had noticed Crowley talking to her as if she were a guy, yet she hadn't seen it as a priority to correct him at the time.
She had other things to worry about.
At the front of the room stood five figures that immediately stood out.
First, because they were standing at the front.
Second, because they had their hoods down, allowing her to see their faces.
(She definitely didn't stare at them creepily for a good minute.)
Then her eyes drifted back toward the mirror at the front.
It was enormous and slightly elevated, framed with gothic decorations.
But back to the story.
These descriptions tended to bore people after all.
.......................................
Riddle: "Ah, speak of the devil."
Crowley: "If you must know, I was searching for the new student who failed to show for orientation."
Then he turned toward Yuuki, calming slightly when he noticed her nervous demeanor.
Crowley: "You are the only one who has yet to be assigned a dorm. Step up to the Dark Mirror, and be quick about it. I'll watch your weasel."
Grim: "Grrrrr!"
Sadly, Grim still didn't appreciate the nickname.
Slowly, the girl made her way toward the mirror.
At first, it was black and dark.
Even her own silhouette was difficult to make out.
But then—
green flames suddenly erupted around the frame.
And in the center appeared a mask resembling a face.
Dark Mirror: "State your name."
It demanded.
So she introduced herself.
(Even if she was slightly freaked out.)
Yuuki: "I'm Yuuki Bani..."
At first, it didn't say anything, seemingly deep in thought.
It simply stared at her.
...
Yuuki stared back.
...
Neither moved.
The silence stretched uncomfortably long.
She was beginning to believe she had accidentally broken it.
But then—
Dark Mirror: "The nature of your soul is..."
......
......
Dark Mirror: "...unclear to me."
...
The entire Mirror Chamber suddenly fell deathly silent.
You could hear a pin drop.
Not a single word was spoken.
Though the silence didn't last long.
Crowley: "What did you just say?!"
He asked, horrified, clearly not believing his own ears.
(Maybe he should seriously get that checked.)
Dark Mirror: "I sense no magical power from this one. Soundless. Colorless.
Shapeless. Utterly vacant. Therefore, no dorm would be appropriate."
How mean, the blank canvas thought.
Crowley: "Are you suggesting that the Black Carriage went to receive a person who cannot even use magic?! But that is absurd! The student selection process has not erred once in its century of existence! How could this have happened?!"
During the heated discussion, Crowley accidentally forgot that he was still holding Grim at arm's length.
Giving the monster the perfect opportunity to wriggle free.
Grim: "Mmmph! Nnnrgggh... GASP!"
Grim: "ME! Let ME have this student's seat!"
The moment Crowley realized Grim had escaped, he lunged forward in panic.
Crowley: "Not so fast, you hyperactive weasel!"
Keyword here being tried.
Grim was faster this time and easily darted out of reach.
Grim: "Unlike that human, I can actually use magic! So let me be a student here! Look, I'll show you! My spells're the cat's meow!"
Sensing what was about to happen, Riddle immediately shouted:
Riddle: "Everyone, get down!"
Just as Grim unleashed a stream of fire.
Grim: "Myaaaahhh!"
Sadly, someone didn't move out of the way fast enough.
Kalim: "AHHHHH! HELP! I'M ON FIRE OVER HERE!"
That someone being Kalim.
Crowley: "Someone catch that blasted animal before it sets the entire school ablaze!"
(I would like to applaud this guy for making his students do his dirty work. He should be crowned Teacher of the Year.)
Yuuki, who was still standing awkwardly near the mirror, suddenly noticed something.
Now that people weren't staring at her anymore, she must have calmed down
slightly.
She could hear better than before.
To the point that her ears hurt.
So she decided to use the chaos to her advantage.
Yuuki: "Hey, talking and very creepy mirror."
...
Dark Mirror: "What?"
Yuuki: "Could you maybe... be a mirror for a minute? I wanna see my reflection."
The mirror, (who apparently had a soft spot for women asking nicely) decided to comply.
After all, it had been a while since someone actually wanted to use him as a mirror.
Upon seeing her reflection, Yuuki saw... herself.
She had to admit, maybe she shouldn't berate Crowley for thinking she was a guy.
It was difficult to tell she was a girl with those clothes on.
So...
she carefully lifted the hood of her robe.
Weird, she thought.
Her ears looked normal.
So what could be—
She slowly looked up.
...
Yuuki: "Whaaaaaaaaaat?!"
Ears.
Bunny ears.
She had bunny ears.
Actual.
Fluffy.
Bunny ears.
Are those fluffing bunny ears on top of my head?!
...
"Nope."
Yeah no.
The weasel must have hit her in the head earlier and now she was hallucinating.
She'd ask Crowley in a minute.
...
When he stopped screaming at the top of his lungs.
While the bunny was having a mental breakdown and reconsidering all her life choices, the situation behind her had somehow evolved from "minor incident" to "complete disaster."
............................................................................
Meanwhile...
Leona: "Ugh. Can I go now, or...?"
He sounded utterly uninterested in the entire ordeal.
Vil: "Oh? I thought you fancied yourself a hunter. Go and help yourself to that plump little morsel."
Leona: "Too much effort. Do it yourself."
Azul: "Allow me to handle this, Headmage Crowley. If none of you are up to the task of catching a small animal, I will accept the responsibility."
Idia's Tablet: "WTG Azul. Rackin' up those participation credits."
Kalim: "Hey, um, my butt's still on fire... Could someone maybe put this out?!"
He was ignored again.
Tragic.
Crowley: "I'm sorry, were my instructions unclear?!"
Leona: "Sigh Pretty sure you can handle catching one mangy weasel all on your lonesome there, Headmage."
He jabbed lazily, and honestly, he wasn't wrong.
Grim: "How many times do I gotta say it?! I'm Grim, spellcaster extraordinaire! I am NOT a weasel!"
Azul: "Aren't you a spunky little fellow? Riddle, would you be so kind...?"
Riddle: "Furry miscreant. I will abide no rule-breaking. You will be judged by my hand."
And so the fight began...
Round 1
Grim: "Check it! See how strong I am?!"
The intruder puffed up proudly, only for his taunting to be answered by a spell hurtling toward him.
Riddle: "Haa!"
The blast struck Grim squarely in the back.
Grim: "Whoa, whoa, whoa!"
Riddle: "How very brazen of you to go on breaking the rules in my presence."
He snapped irritably.
Azul: "Shall we make this quick, then? I'm afraid we don't have much time to
spare."
With practiced precision, Azul launched his own spell.
Azul: "Haa!"
Grim: "Gah!"
Riddle: "Must you relish playing with your quarry, Azul?"
The redhead questioned sharply.
Azul: "Heh. And here I thought we were both the sort to enjoy this."
Riddle: "Please. I'm not like you, so spare me your drivel."
He scoffed before firing off another spell.
Grim: "Eeep!"
Azul followed up with yet another blast, but this time Grim twisted away at the
last second.
Riddle: "I must ask, Azul: are you even TRYING to help catch the intruder?"
He complained.
Azul: "How can I, when you seem so determined to monopolize this effort?"
He jabbed back smoothly.
Grim: "Knock it off with the bickering and just let me in already! MYAAAH!"
The Great Grim unleashed his most powerful weapon—
his fire (bad breath).
Riddle: "...! Stand aside, Azul!"
——————————————————----
But what will happen next?
Will the hunters become the hunted?
Or will Grim finally be defeated?
We shall find out next time.
(So tune back in.)
...
Yuuki: "Ahem."
And of course, find out what happened to the Dark Mirror's biology homework.
Yuuki: "(¬_¬)
Chapter 1
What a wonderful night for a walk, right? (The wandering dragon would certanly agree.) The stars shine unusually bright tonight on the Isle of Sages.
This time, our story doesn't start with the small—
Grim: "Hm?"
—sorry—Great Grim, who is currently trying (and failing?) to climb the entrance of the school.
No, this time, it starts in one of the two academies the isle has: the infamous gothic-style magic school, Night Raven College.
Where they have floating chandeliers.
Living magical mirrors.
Raven-resembling images, and—
-coff strict dorm rivalries coff-
...Apologies.
And deep within this academy, inside a chamber lined with floating coffins, lies a person—a girl?
Motionless. Silent.
But don't be fooled, she's not dead.
Merely unconscious.
Just like all the others who are currently lying within similar floating coffins around her.
She who lies unaware of what is to come...
...unaware of the fate waiting ahead.
I wonder...
Will you manage to reach that ending?...to make the happy ever after a reality?
Or will you fail (beating the shit out of them and some sense into them)?
We shall wait and see—
...
Oh, wait—
Grim's here already.
No point in delaying the inevitable.
Let's start directly with the story, shall we?
——————————————————————
Prologue
Chapter 1
"Ah, my dear esteemed benefactor...
My proud, beautiful flower of evil.
You are truly the fairest one of all.
O magic mirror, thy wisdom I entreat...
Reveal unto me the visage I seek...
You, whose image the Dark Mirror did beckon forth...
If your heart bids it, take the hand of the one reflected in the mirror.
As flame reduces even the stars to ash...
As ice seals away even time itself...
As great trees swallow even the sky...
Fear not the power of darkness.
Now—demonstrate your power.
To me. To them. To yourself.
The hour grows long, and time is scarce.
Keep steady your grip, no matter what may come..."
........................................................................................
Yuuki: "Oh, I swear to God—WHY does my head hurt so much? And why does it feel so heavy?"
I try to look around but can't seem to find anything. It's dark, and when I try to move, I seem to be in an enclosed space...
Wait—doesn't this shape resemble a coffin?...
WILL I BE BURIED ALIVE?!OH MY GOD!
Absolutely not.
I'm far too pretty for this shit.
Calm down, Yuuki. Everything's going to be okay. First things first, I should try to get out of here.
The girl tried to feel for some kind of opening and pushed against the lid. Yet nothing happened. But then she stopped her movements upon hearing a voice outside her confinement.
Grim: "I better hurry up and find that uniform before someone spots me...
Urgggh... This lid weighs a ton!
Try this on for size! Mya-ha!"
Yuuki: "BWAAAH?! —Oh God, FIRE?!"
Grim (covered in leaves and dirt from sneaking around): "Now to grab the goods...
What?! You ain't supposed to be awake!"
Yuuki: Confused and lightly disoriented, "A talking... weasel?!" was the first thing she noticed. How could she not? He was the oddest thing to encounter here.
It looked like a grayish cat walking on its hind legs, with a white tuft of hair on its chest, though she had to confess the pitchfork tail and blue fire coming out of its ears added a certain charm.
But upon looking around at the extravagant room, she noticed another oddity. (While accidentally ignoring the kitty... oops.)
"F-floating coffins?!" she exclaimed, surprised.
The weasel—as she called it—was mad. After all, this stranger had the audacity to ignore him.
So, he spoke up.
Grim: "Oh-ho! You got a lotta nerve ignoring me, human! The name's Grim. Believe me, you won't forget it!
Now gimme your uniform, and be quick about it! 'Cause if you don't... you're gonna regret it!"
He warned while breathing some fire from his maw.
This, the hooded figure noticed,
not sure if she should take her chances with an overgrown cat that breathed blue fire.
Upon a second of thinking, she made the brave decision...
Fuck it. Her life was more important right now.
Yuuki: "Getting roasted alive by a weasel? What will I dream of next?"
Grim: "Well, keep dreamin', 'cause I ain't no weasel!"
Yuuki: "Okay, nope. Bye—"
She started running out of the room and into a dark hallway, only illuminated by the moon outside the windows.
Grim (surprised and angry): "Now come on! I'm on a tight schedule here!"
While running, she soon came upon two double doors. She decided to enter in hopes of hiding, but what awaited her inside took her breath away.
After all, she was a book lover.
The huge wooden doors creaked open slowly.
The first thing she noticed was how the atmosphere changed completely the second she entered.
The air smelled like old paper, candle wax, polished wood, dust, and something else, though she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
The library was impossibly vast—far larger than any room had the right to be, with its endless towering bookshelves stretching upward into darkness and spiral staircases wrapped around the shelves.
Floating candles drifted quietly through the air, giving extra light where the chandeliers' golden glow wasn't enough.
All the while, the tall gothic windows let in pale moonlight.
But what captivated her most were the books that drifted through the air as if they had minds of their own, with pages turning without a singel hand touching them.
The escapee looked around in wonder, mesmerized by what should not be.
Yuuki: "Where am I?
...
If this is a dream, I'm ready to wake up," she added quietly upon hearing a crash in the distance and remembering her pursuer.
She just hoped it—he?—wouldn't find her.
...
The door slammed open.
"Shit. Talked too soon."
Sadly, she jinxed it.
Grim: "Foolish human! Did you really think you could slip away from ME?
Now, unless you wanna get burned to a crisp, take off that—"
the cat said angrily when suddenly—
"Me-YEOW! That hurt! What gives?!"
A weird lash wrapped around him, successfully stopping his movement.
Now there stood a man wearing a cloak with feathers and a crow mask.
The girl didn't like him already, simply because of his weird choice of clothing.
Even she could do better, she thought.
Crowley: "Consider it tough love," he told Grim angrily, but his demeanor seemed to lighten when his eyes fell on the hooded figure.
"Ah, I've found you at last. Splendid. I trust you're one of this year's new students?
My, were you ever eager to make your debut."
he said happily, but then added more sternly:
"And bringing a poorly trained familiar with you? That is a clear violation of the school's rules."
Grim (offended): "As if I'd serve some lowly human! Now lemme go!"
Crowley (clearly ignoring him) :"Yes, yes. Rebellious familiars always say that. Do be quiet for a bit, won't you?"
He wrapped the whip around Grim's mouth so he couldn't speak.
Grim: "Mmmrph!"
Crowley: "Dear me. Of all the students I've dealt with, you're the first with enough temerity to open their own gate and step out of it.
Does the very notion of patience elude you?
No matter. Your orientation has already begun. Let us return to the Mirror Chamber."
Yuuki (clearly confused): "Student...? Gate...?"
Crowley (exasperated at this point): "You awakened in a room full of gates, did you not?
All of the students here at the campus arrived by passing through such gates.
Although typically the students have enough restraint to wait until I open them before waking up."
He decided to say pointedly.
Yuuki (side-eyeing Grim, the little arsonist): "I think something blew the lid off mine..."
Crowley (noticing her look at the monster):"The culprit appears to be that familiar of yours.
You're the one who insisted on bringing it, so curtailing its behavior is your responsibility!"
Yuuki (too tired to argue at this point): "Anyway—so those coffins are like... gateways?"
she asked, confused.
Crowley (suddenly in a bragging mood): "The design is intended to symbolize a parting with your former world and a rebirth into a new one.
But now is not the time for such prattle.
You've a student orientation to attend!
Go on now. Make haste."
Yuuki: "First, just tell me one thing:
Where am I? And who are you?"
Crowley (thoughtful): "Hmm? Have you not fully regained consciousness?
The timespace teleportation must have addled your memories...
Well, these things happen, I suppose.
I shall explain it to you while we walk. Truly, my magnanimity is boundless."
While walking, they came upon the courtyard.
Yuuki couldn't stop herself from staring at the place.
It was enormous, open to the sky, yet surrounded by towering gothic buildings made of dark stone, with tall arched windows, pointed rooftops, black iron balconies, ivy climbing the walls, and ravens perched on railings.
The architecture was elegant yet intimidating.
Looking at the fountain in the center, she couldn't help but compare the place to a rose.
Captivatingly beautiful, yet full of thorns.
Those you can avoid and those hidden from sight.
The moment shattered when Crowley began to speak.
Crowley: Ahem.
"This is Night Raven College.
It is an institution for students the world over who demonstrate a rare aptitude for magic.
It is the most prestigious academy of its sort in all of Twisted Wonderland.
And I am Dire Crowley. Having been entrusted with its care by the chairman, I serve as headmage."
Surprised, the girl blurted out the first thing that came to mind.
Yuuki: "Academy!?
Wait, no—I should be in an academy... I think."
Crowley (puzzled): "You think?"
Yuuki: "Yes, now let me try that again...
Ahem...
Magic?!"
Crowley: "Only those whom the Dark Mirror perceives as having a talent for magic are admitted to the college.
Those who are selected are summoned to the campus through those 'gates,' which can appear anywhere."
Cue the image of a carriage flashing through her mind.
"A black carriage bearing one such gate should have come to meet you."
Yuuki (thoughtful): "I do kinda remember a horse with a scary face... and crossing a dark forest..."
Crowley: "That black carriage serves to receive a student chosen by the Dark Mirror.
It too bears a gate that connects to this campus.
And as you know, sending a carriage to meet someone on a special day is a time-honored tradition."
Yuuki: "So this carriage dragged me here against my will?
And, uh... tell me this is a time-honored tradition WHERE?"
The little beast, who had been listening quietly (oddly enough), suddenly decided now was the perfect time to add his two cents.
Grim: "Mmfff! Mmmmmmfff!"
Yet he was ignored by Crowley, something the girl was starting to believe was a habit of the crow-looking man.
Crowley: "Now, let us attend to your orientation."
The girl was now even more confused than before.
But she dosen't really have much of a choice other than following what this stranger sais.
She just hopes nothing crazy is going to happen to her.

Prolonge.1:
Once upon a time…
It was a colder night than usual here in Twisted Wonderland. But nothing out of the ordinary, given it was September.
But one thing was out of the ordinary, or at least unusual, as most would call it.
On the side of the road, near a bus stop, sat a small tanuki—ah, sorry, a cat with blue flaming ears and a pitchfork tail, wearing a black-and-white striped ribbon around its neck.
The little one seemed cold and… alone. ___________________________________________
Grim doesn’t remember much.
He remembers he’s called Grim, and…
“Oh no, the Great Grim is mad,” a calm voice said, with a hint of amusement.
He tried to remember… WHO called him that, but he couldn’t.
Well anyway: he is called the Great Grim, and he is waiting for something. What was it again?
Ah, right. He had overheard some stupid humans talk about this so-called prestigious college, Night Raven College. They had said that an ebony carriage would come and bring talented mages from all around the world straight to the entrance ceremony.
Right now, he is waiting for the carriage to arrive. After all, the ceremony should start soon… he thinks.
But they are taking their time getting here. His (impatient) patience is running out!
I mean, it couldn’t possibly be that they didn’t send one for him, right?
…Only stillness greeted the dejected cat.
…
…….
………….
THAT’S IT!
He, the GREAT GRIM, has had enough of just sitting around.
He will go to those pesky humans and show them that he is the greatest—and that they are making a mistake not sending a carriage for him!
And that is how the small tanuki (ahem, sorry) cat started his journey to the Isle of Sages.
A place where he will cause chaos, overcome (and cause) trouble, and maybe even make a friend—(AHEM!)
A henchman.
Yes, he shall get a henchman.
Not a friend like all those humans have.
He is the Great Grim; he doesn’t need anyone… except a (or more) henchman.
The thought alone made the small one giddy. ___________________________________________
But oh well, we looking through the looking glass shall see another time how this little one’s story continues.
Hello.☺️
I would like to ask thouse in the Twisted Wonderland fandom something. I have been thinking of writing a fanfiction about grim and my Oc/Reader.
I always tought that grim's backstory could be more written/talked about.
His and my Oc/Y/n past would play out in visions or fragments of his memory. (Which he has lost but will slowly remember).
But for that i have to think about his journey in NRC.
In other words: HOW THE F#CK AM I GOING TO WRITE YUU?!😭🤬 DO I WRITE YUU?😰
I don't want to follow the anime and more the game so I initially thought about making an Oc.
But I'm not sure.
So my question is.🤔
Do I write about a genderles and neutrall chatakter or do i make some Oc OR do i just leave Yuu out and instead make Grim into ,something like a beastman,(will be explained in the story) and give him something like a Yuuish kind of story.
My resioning is that Grim acts kinda like a child AND we don't know his specis. So technikally i could use pure imagination to write him.(Yes he will be a bit Oc, I think).🧐
P.S.: Eng isn't my first language and i have a "Lese-/Schreibschweche"(idk how to say it in english. Sorry)😅🥲
Thank you for your time.
