Little flame of the night prayer, lead the way
forever in awe of people who pay attention. people who wait for you while you tie your shoes while the others have walked away. when they continue listening intently while the rest of the group stopped listening. noticing your moments of silence when everyone else hasn’t. “this made me think of you” noticing things you never even noticed about yourself. people who say “text me when you get home safe.” people who make you laugh until you cry. childhood friends who keep in touch. people with genuine intentions. people who are soft when the world has given them every opportunity to turn hard. the “let’s get ice cream” at 3am friend. the turn up the music in the car and sing friend. people whose actions match their words. people who make the world feel less chaotic. kindred spirits. the trustworthy and honest. hard workers. good listeners. clear communicators. people who love you for who you are. people who don’t ask you to be anything other than yourself. people who choose you. people who stay.

i do, often, think of that quote from wislawa szymborska talking about love and the inexplicability of some of it. "great love is never justified" etc. and it truly isn't. and thank god for that.
"We’re dealing here with the phenomenon of great love. Detached observers always ask in such cases: “So what does she (he) see in him (her)?” Such questions are best left in peace: great love is never justified. It’s like the little tree that springs up in some inexplicable fashion on the side of a cliff: where are its roots, what does it feed on, what miracle produces those green leaves? But it does exist and it really is green—clearly, then, it’s getting whatever it needs to survive."
— from "Great Love", in Nonrequired Reading
They’ll have you feel like you’re asking for too much. Truth is, they can’t offer much. It’s like I’m expecting a fountain quality from a drain individual.

nvm found it
“Write in order not simply to destroy, in order not simply to conserve, in order not to transmit; write in the thrall of the impossible real, that share of disaster wherein every reality, safe and sound, sinks.”
— Maurice Blanchot, The Writing of the Disaster
The Taste of Things / La Passion de Dodin Bouffant (2023, Tran Anh Hung)
“I don’t miss him anymore. Most of the time, anyway. I want to. I wish I could but unfortunately, it’s true: time does heal. It will do so whether you like it or not, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. If you’re not careful, time will take away everything that ever hurt you, everything you have ever lost, and replace it with knowledge. Time is a machine: it will convert your pain into experience. Raw data will be compiled, will be translated into a more comprehensible language. The individual events of your life will be transmuted into another substance called memory and in the mechanism something will be lost and you will never be able to reverse it, you will never again have the original moment back in its uncategorized, preprocessed state. It will force you to move on and you will not have a choice in the matter.”
— Charles Yu, How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe

“BEING RAISED in an unstable household makes you understand that the world doesn’t exist to accommodate you, which is something a lot of people struggle to understand well into their adulthood. It makes you realize how quickly a situation can shift, how danger really is everywhere. But crises when they occur, do not catch you off guard; you have never believed you lived under a shelter of some essential benevolence. And an unstable childhood makes you appreciate calmness and not crave excitement.“ Introverts The people who’ve endured trauma. The people who don’t want to go to the loud party filled with unpredictable people because they’ve already experienced that and it usually ends with yelling and negativity. The people who might have endured horrible things in their past that make them careful to the point of being ‘boring’. The people who know what happens when you say the wrong words to an upset person. The people who don’t tell people when they’re upset because past experiences in their lives trained them to believe they were a bother. (via tripyfuckduphipie)
It didn’t work because honestly you reallllly suck. And maybe you should be with other people who reallllly suck as well.
