I'm Ant Man

They always say that having a child was the greatest experience one could have in this life, yet Scott counted down those days with trepidation. Would he be good enough? There were moments that he was genuinely terrified that the small, delicate human being slowly developing and growing would shatter to pieces like porcelain the moment he took her in his arms. It was a girl, they were determined to know, although it changed that uncertainty none.

Putting together the nursery room had taken some time, frustrated at the furniture not coming together as in the instructions, which he refused to accept as his own fault (I have a Masters dammit why won’t you work!) But once it was done, Maggie rewarded his effort with a kiss and a glass of lemonade, sitting together to observe the room awaiting their new arrival. It was when it truly struck that they were having a baby, that their lives were going to change. This was all real, and approaching quicker than he felt prepared for.

A hand settled on Maggie’s pregnancy belly, tenderly stroking, her eyes watching his face curiously. Scott, meanwhile, was focusing solely on the way his fingers brushed over that bump, shifting the soft material of her clothing with every movement.

“I think she’s gonna have your nose”, his wife said softly, breaking the silence and his focus with a soft poke on his nose.

Looking up, Scott wrinkled his nose with a shake of the head. “I don’t know. Kind of hope she has yours, but my amazing personality”.

A scoff, and Maggie shook her own head. “Amazing? So humble”.

Eyes shone with humor, feigning some modesty. “That’s me. Mr. Humility”.

A snort, which somehow descended into a childlike tickling match, with Scott landing on the bottom with Maggie straddling his waist.

“You only won because I didn’t want to hurt you”.

“Suuuuure”.

“Seriously”.

“I believe you”.

Her gaze became tender, fingers lightly brushing his hair back. “You’ll be a good father, if a little ridiculous”.

“Just a little?”

“Alright, a lot”.
