While I was looking for a version of "Saturn Devouring His Son" that would fit Crozier's vibes, I came across a very interesting Saturn by Giulia Lama. Such a curious choice of emotional tone, color and pose. This isn't the visceral horror and madness usually chosen for this subject, but rather a hint of something wrong hidden beneath pastoral surface, an almost innocence in the overall appearance. It seems as though Cronos touches his son almost with love, but if you look closely at the infant, that's where the horror and pain usually accompanying this subject lies. The infant's face is not visible - such a subtle detail. The victim is depersonalized, reduced to pure flesh. Perhaps the most gripping thing about this painting is that you have to figure out all the unnaturalness and immorality of what's happening yourself. To place all the responsibility on the viewer and their imagination... it's almost cruel.
