you might say "hm, that sounds kind of like computer" well let's go over that then. the two big roots here that sound similar are -put and -putr, which are kind of opposites. -put is thinking, sorting, tidying, and -putr is falling apart, disintegrating, decaying. they both end in roots meaning "to do something" or "doer of something" being -esce(esco here bc latin) and -er. their shared root is actually com- meaning together. makes sense for computer, which would then literally be "the thing that thinks or sorts together" but is so interesting for computresco, which could literally be "for the together to become apart" or "for the sorted to become unsorted" or even "for the integrated to disintegrate." fun fact: this only makes me a little bit horny! anyway that's what i learned today :P
