Shoplifting Tips from a Loss Prevention Officer
Worst Techniques
Wearing out articles of clothing.
Opening packages and putting the item in your bag/pockets/whatever. Seriously, donât take things out of packages. If there are security tags on the packaging, take them off, but for the love of god stop taking things out of packages and leaving behind the empty boxes. Itâs really obvious.
Carrying whatever it is youâre going to steal around the store for ages looking for a nice empty aisle to conceal it in. Walking around with a bunch of video games in the bath towels makes what youâre about to do fairly obvious.
If you were in my store, and you draped your jacket over the stuff in your cart, Iâd definitely watch you. People do that kind of stuff to hide what their hands are doing (opening packages, tearing off security sensors, etc).
Best Techniques
Make you you actually look like youâre shopping. If you arenât looking at the prices of items and youâre just grabbing whatever it is you want off the shelf, it looks like a red flag.
Concealing the stuff that you want to steal while youâre in line waiting to pay for something else. If weâre following you, and you get in line to pay for all of your stuff, weâre probably going to stop watching you at that point.
Donât take things out of packages! it takes too much time, it makes noise, you leave the the empty package behind and if we see you set down an empty package, even if we didnât see you stuff the item in your bag/pockets, weâll probably apprehend you.
If youâre going to conceal the merchandise on your person somehow, donât leave the store right away after you do this. Chill out, browse, use the bathroom (a lot of retail stores have policies like thisâ once you go into the bathroom, itâs over, weâve technically lost sight of you). If we lose you for a while, itâs very dangerous to make the apprehensionâ stores face a huge liability if loss prevention apprehends someone and they decided not to steal the item and left it in the store somewhere.
Steal during busy hours of the day, when there are lots of people shopping.
Also, if youâre youngish (under 22 or so) and with a group of similarly aged friends, donât even try. The second a group of teenagers walks in, weâre probably watching them.
If youâre going to hide the merchandise on your person somehow, DO IT WHILE YOUâRE WALKING. Donât stop, look around, and then stuff it. I cannot stress this one enough. It is much harder to see what youâre doing if youâre walking around from aisle to aisle, especially if loss prevention is following you around on foot instead of with CCTV.
Iâd recommend not concealing merchandise in the bathrooms, but definitely using them after concealing merchandise, because itâs a break in surveillance. Iâd recommend concealing a couple things that you donât really want in addition to what you DO want (on the sales floor, not in the bathrooms), and then leaving the items you donât want in the bathrooms, because they will check the stalls. Confusion is key!

ok is it just me or does the lifting community just make me soft𼺠just a group of big siblings that anonymously helps eachother out.. đđđđ
UK lifting
my personal experiences of working in different retail stores and having friends in retail etc and lifting a lottt.
river island: just donât fuck w it, their cameras are streamed live to a company who are paid to sit and watch and radio over if they see anything, very attentive fitting rooms. everything is tagged but Iâve lifted afew purses from there because they must of forgot to tag them or just put them out.
primark: no tags, but 1 security always on door, a lot of staff, and 2/3 people watch screens upstairs, like their security is mad loads of different people running round to take ur picture etc (took an umbrella when I was 12 but thatâs another story lol)
boots: plain clothed LPs, one I spoke to was a fat bold man in jeans and a football tshirt, afew things sticker tagged (idk the proper name) but easy to peel off, when they have new perfume out they are never tagged, watch out for sticker tags in expensive items, had one in a smashbox palette. sometimes have security on door but doesnât move around store, ive had a LP follow me round before dressed in jeans and a leather jacket and he was young and hot and on his phone but I seen a walkie talkie in his back pocket.
pull&bear: same company as Zara so would say the same rules apply. I worked here over Christmas and they stuck me in the fitting rooms most of the time, we had to be very. very. thorough. we had to take clothes of of customers and count them ourselves, anything draping over arms was taken off and we had a scanner where we made them swipe all of there bags they had over them to detect and tags ready to be taken off and magnets. every hour we have to check every room behind mirrors light etc for tags and write down on a sheet how many we find. but, things like jewellery etc or anything on shop floor will be easy, no one watches cctv but staff all wear ear pieces including both managers and stock room and communicate anything through that then we would cs the fuck out of the person, also had a code of we seen someone conceal something it was a girls name idk what say it was sally youâd say âsally is over by the shoesâ
victoria secret: way too easy, staff are just young girls who are too busy tidying the constant mess, ½ cameras, pairs of pants arenât tagged only expensive things bras etc but always find the odd one without a tag. I never conceal in fitting room their too easy to do on shopfloor.
IKEA: I lifted my double bed & it was about ÂŁ210, just got a load of other things and didnât scan it as their bagging area doesnât weigh items (risky but I went for it) loads of blind spots to get little things too.
debenhams: I get a lot and I mean a lot of make up here. nothing is tagged, naked palettes, Mac, too faced, benefit literally nothing. SAs are attentive though as they need to make sales Iâve got 22 too faced mascaras and countless amounts of urban decay and MAC but I have a pretty fool proof trick house of fraser: literally the same as debenhams, different make up concessions Iâve got a lot in there only thing Iâve ever had tagged was a Versace perfume (peeled it off) and a box of Calvin Klein boxers had one fucking magnetic tag in the pair right at the bottoms of the box and I beeped on the way out and had to ditch that pair. john lewis: another one the same as debenhams and house of fraser, most make up is locked up thought literally except from benefit stuff. no perfume/aftershave if tagged tho thatâs my go to for perfume. Iâve got 5+ ted baker purses as they always seem to have some untagged.
asda: security are allllways on their phones not watching the screen I swear. at the self check out, pretend to scan at item, press finish & pay, add item in bag and it wonât weight it then just pay for everything else. (King size duvets, ÂŁ30 I then return them get a ÂŁ30 gift card for more expensive things I want to lift I then pay with my gift cards)
M&S: idk what there security etc is like Iâve only ever lifted make up, but a lottt, nothing is tagged except testers ?? only ever one SA in make up department and they donât cs you at all, just need to be sly about it
next: one security guard who just wanders round, no one watched cctv unless they are aware of an incident thatâs happened they will review it, tbh the only thing they watch live is their staff, all they care about is being strict on staff not security even tho I knew a lottt of staff that lifted from there. but all clothes are tagged and some expensive shit is double tagged I worked in the stock room and all the tags we used need a hook
lipsy: I was a manager here and we had track suits stolen a lotttttt, we double tagged them but if they had a hook there was literally fuck all i could do as it was literally just me on my own or me and one other staff member on the floor and your not aloud to stick to fitting rooms you have to be mobile and itâs all about making a sale so tbh the dressing rooms are completely unattended (but it was a rly small store)
urban outfitters: I always conceal on shopfloor, dressing rooms are too attentive. I donât think they have LPs just staff who wear walkie talkies & ear pieces. I will always find a few clothes or underwear thatâs not tagged. jewellery & home stuff isnât normally tagged except the occasional watch.
paperchase: no cameras usually 1 or 2 SA and if itâs busy theyâll both be on the register, a lot of high shelves so easy to conceal without being seen body shop: cameras that cover most of the store as its a big open place, Iâve lifted a lot of little things when itâs been busy itâs itâs quiet I donât fuck w it cause staff always cs you to death LUSH: no cameras but annoying af saâs just make sure they donât see you pick the item up you are concealing just be nice and say youâve been in here loads of times and donât need any help and knock yourself out itâs pretty easy Holland and Barrett: either one camera or none, saâs will sometimes ask if you need any help but not always, most things I tagged expect some expensive medicine but just peel it off and donât be obviously because it can be loud if theyâre stuck on good but I can easily fill my bag there TKMAX: underwear isnât tagged only clothes. easy to find blind spots as thereâs not many cameras, Iâve got a lot of Calvin Klein underwear, make up etc
^ finally updated this. if I missed any stores you wanna know about (probably lifted from everyone in the UK) or anything youâd like help with let me know â¤ď¸

my dad: what did yâall do?
me: uh we went to h0t t0pic, h0bby l0bby,,,,
him: you get anything good? you shoplift?
me:
Some tips you can take on board now that you lift
⢠Mascara dries up and carries bacteria easily, as does all makeup. Swipe a new one at least once every three months.
⢠I repeat: makeup carries bacteria easily. Help your skin and health out by lifting new makeup and throwing old out if you used (contaminated) it while sick! You donât want to get sick again! And please lift simple antibac wipes to freshen up your palettes and applicators.
⢠So youâve lifted as much as your gay little hands could carry. Good job, but oh no! Your endless pens and bobby pins are STILL getting lost. Change up your desk/room/storage to make room for a new swiped storage method (little boxes, wire mesh cups etc) and store your shiny new liftins to keep them safe.
⢠When it comes to clothes, do not fall into the trap of âoh my socks are dirty? Psh Iâll just lift more.â No. You cannot replace basic skills you NEED like washing and cleaning with lifting. Lift yourself some colour catchers, nice detergent, stuff to keep your washing machine/dryer working smoothly. Seriously, laundering your lifted clothes feels AMAZING. If youâre struggling with them not really feeling yours, it helps tons.
⢠Youâve lifted tons of hair/body/face care products, but now you need to use them. Donât waste them all in one drunk self care evening, please! Yoink yourself a cute little planner and build a routine for your self care and watch yourself flourish.
Lastly, take things that will help you. Donât endlessly take rings and earrings and sexy bras. Deodorant, toothpaste, bodywash, NUTRITIOUS food is what you should prioritise. Everything else you can get is great, but use it wisely. Good luck âĄ
the uk police force have absolutely 0 fucks left to give // part 1
lmao canât wait to go shoplift!Ăąg in england
A trip through England does sound good right about now
rewatching trinkets before s2 and um.... do cameras not exist in that world
I watched trinkets when it first came out, and even that wasnât the cause for me starting to lift but I wonder how many ppl did because of that series
it made me cringe ngl, they are so sloppy-
i mean itâs lgbt+ and has lifting so no matter how shit they are; ill still watch â¤ď¸
same tbh, gotta stan lgbt shows
reminder that even though someone might post one thing about a store (âtheir tags arenât realâ âall of the cameras are fakeâ âno one cares enough to stop youâ) you should only take that with a grain of salt at most. although a store in that area may be super easy, you might live somewhere that has higher rates of theft and so theyâve had to up their lp or install real cameras, maybe even start giving employees bonuses for catching lfters. even if itâs the same chain you need to approach each store on a case by case basis. (for example i saw one post that said their spncerâs was on lockfuckingdown while another said their tags were fake) you canât always take someoneâs word at 100%, even when they mean well.

I think the biggest lifting tip I can give is...
Be confident.
Confident people are not guilty and people donât associate them with negative attributes. Notice that people tend to keep an eye on the person who *looks*like they are doing something wrong. Donât be that person.
