A room with no doors or ways of entering? That was impossible. He’d NEVER heard of that kind of place… The only way to get in would be to break in. So the walls would be weak? Or the thieves really strong. Either would work.

As much as the self-proclaimed puzzle master would deny it, the little skeleton… Wasn’t exactly the best with words. He could speak well, but reading and writing proved rather difficult- So he couldn’t help a flicker of nervousness at the mention of such puzzles. As long as it didn’t include either of those things, he should be good. Either way, he would have to try his hardest!

All this constant praise… Papyrus was used to his brother showering him in it, and occasionally a random adult, but to this degree? It was really giving the little skeleton a confidence boost…! Doubled with the fact that it was he, Papyrus, who came across and BEFRIENDED a human- Not anybody else in the entire underground… He felt so utterly important.

*Very strong! Once, I lifted a rock off a snail and I got a sticker for it!

He gasps, tugging and shaking Wrenne’s hand in excitement at the proposal.

*Yes! Puzzles are fun, but they’re even MORE fun when you have friends to do them with!

*Once, I tried to play on one of the puzzles, but I got stuck and Sans had to rescue me.

He huffs, pouting.

*But I could’ve gotten out on my own! I just needed a few more minutes to think about it!

Truthfully, a few more minutes wouldn’t have helped at all considering he was stuck on it for around 3 hours. He glances up at Wrenne  upon hearing her discomfort- Humans didn’t like the temperature? Maybe they preferred cooler places, like Snowdin... Papyrus would have to show her around, then. But, that was for later.

*Yeah! Some monsters can’t come here at all because of the heat! But I can go anywhere because I drink lots of milk to make my bones strong!

The skeleton’s sockets twinkle with undeveloped magic as he spies the candy, emitting a tiny squeak of joy at being offered it. He had to wonder- Were the real Royal Guards given candy after doing good deeds? He sure hoped so. He taps his foot on the ground in excitement, quickly reaching out and taking the treat and wasting no time in unwrapping it and licking at it. He would have liked to eat the entire thing whole- But if he wanted to make it last he’d have to settle for eating it bit by bit, thanks to the magical properties of monster food.

They had to be, right? Although, that’s definitely not what they had told him in school. His mind wanders back to an important message the children were reminded of constantly- ‘If you find a human, tell an adult’. But… Papyrus didn’t WANT to tell an adult. He wanted to have fun with Wrenne, and be friends, and play games…And she helped him! So it was only fair he helped her too, by not telling anyone! …At least, that’s what he told himself. Really, he just didn’t want her to leave so soon. Besides, humans couldn’t really be that bad!

He takes her hand happily, albeit a little shyly, still exhilarated from the fact that he was holding hands with a human and talking to one and oh my god-

*Y-Yes! Maybe we just need to get to know each other, and play some games!

*Then there won’t be any fighting or mean-ness or capturing!

Wrenne was a… Human?

Papyrus gapes up at her, sockets wide in absolute shock. In school, the monsters had been taught to always be on the lookout for humans- That they were dangerous creatures, who could easily destroy a monster without a second thought. Though they’d never been taught what a human LOOKED like, Papyrus had often imagined it to be an odd creature, menacing with sharp teeth and claws… Not at ALL like this. He’d definitely never thought that his first meeting with a human would be them helping him or playing with him- In fact, he’d practiced an entire monologue for the first time he ever met a human. The skeleton felt… Conflicted, to say the least.
