HEADCANON        THE DREW FAMILY.

CARSON DREW  /  josh duhamel          carson drew is a successful and well-known lawyer. he tends to travel a lot for his work, but this doesn't mean nancy is neglected. quite the opposite. carson loves his daughter and truthfully, spoils her whenever he can. not just in trinkets and material possessions but in love and attention. she's the absolute apple of her father's eye. carson is very proud of his daughter, he worries often, but he doesn't let protective, paternal instinct get in the way of her brilliance. he offers her help and guidance wherever he can, both as her father and as attorney with friends in high up places. carson has used his influence to help nancy solve many cases. he also has pointed more than one colleague and friend in her more than capable direction when they're in need of help. 

NANCY DREW  /  aisha dee           how do you summarize someone like nancy drew? she's brave, intelligent, confident, tenacious, humble, independent, and beautiful. the whole package. she's always had a knack for getting herself into trouble, and sticking her nose in things she shouldn't. she's much like her mother, in that regard, apparently. she's always had a fascination when it comes to uncovering a truth. she likes puzzles, she likes making order out of chaos. if there's a mystery and an adventure about, nancy drew will find  it and fling herself into it headfirst. if there's something fishy going on you want her around to find the source. she's an incredible detective, one of the best, in fact. you only meet a girl like nancy drew once in a lifetime.

HEADCANON        NANCY AS A MIXED GIRL

the way i choose to portray nancy drew is as a young, african-american woman. i ALSO choose to portray her as mixed. her mother (  katherine ' kate ' drew  ),  who is now deceased, was african-american. her father (  carson drew  ), who is still alive, is white. now i'm going to go on about how this change to canon effects nancy and how she deals with the world around her.

#NUMBER ONE          nancy is absolutely just as brilliant as she's ever been. but, people believe the rumors less. they're more doubtful of her skills. of her intelligence. of how trustworthy she is. of her ability to piece together a puzzle that there's barely any pieces to. they undermine her a lot more. where a white nancy might run into people infantilizing her, black nancy runs into people outright disrespecting her. she despises when people do so because she KNOWS her own self worth but it is disheartening.

#NUMBER TWO           nancy's relationship with the law is very different here. her father is still a very successful lawyer with many political ties. nancy respects the law and knows how it works in and out. that hasn't changed. what's changed is how the law reacts to nancy. politicians who'd think a white nancy was clever think black nancy is too loud and outspoken. the police eye her with distrust. though nothing has ever gone on her permanent record (  thanks to her father's excellent interference  ) she HAS been arrested multiple times while investigating cases. local law enforcement has gotten used to her but when she goes wanders of river heights for cases (  which is often, nancy drew is NOT a girl that will let herself be caged  ) it's a new story and a new game. she has to watch everything she says. has to make herself less intimidating. has to not be too sassy or crude.
