Yesterday, an anon asked me how I did this text effect in this edit, and after @victoriaschwab‘s request for a full tutorial, here it is! I’ve tried to explain it as best as I could but if you have any questions, don’t be afraid to send me an ask here.
program: I’m using photoshop cc 2015 but any version of photoshop with a timeline will do
difficulty: medium. previous knowledge of timeline would help.

features.
absolutely everything you see on the preview can be inputted through the customize page.
post sizes available are 250, 300, 350, 400, 450, 500 and 540.
there are eleven options for your bullet symbol.
option of having borders rounded to 3, 5 or 8px or set it to 0 for none.
opacity settings from 60% all the way to 100%.
uppercase or lowercase titles.
nine google font options for your body font along with 4 font sizes.
the option to have “styled bolded text” and to make it more bold.
5 hosted custom fonts and an adobe edge font for bold/title.
two font option sizes for both bolded text and sidebar title.
two pop-ups. you can disable the muse pop-up through the customize page.
options for two different ask and permalink styles.
gradient bg toggle for accented gradients.
text input description or meta description option along with small caps and uppercase description toggles.
borders, grayscale posts and uppercase tags toggles are also available!

about pop-up: four user details for your information or updates. three photos (one larger and two icons). you also have the option to display four, eight or twelve links. there’s even an option to have no navigation at all.
muses pop-up: the option for either four, eight or twelve muses. you also have the option to have each muse be linked. hovering over image also displays the muses name. both of these can be inputted through the customize page.
recommendations.
make sure you’ve enabled only ONE ask or permalink style. having both will mess up the theme and it won’t appear as it should.
if something isn’t working (i.e. toggle is enabled but not working) then please disable, reable and then refresh your page. all should be well.
if you’re enabling the toggles for the 12 navigation links or 12 muses then make sure the eight option is also enabled or it won’t show!
photo sizes.
there will be place holders when you install the theme, but for reference:
sidebar icon: 55 x 55.
about pop-up: 120x120 for the main image and 50x50 for the two smaller images.

I created a Userstyle for the Chrome/Firefox Stylus Extension that reverts the new dashboard to the old format. This took a lot of tweaking and it's not perfect at all, but if anyone wants it I'll be uploading it soonish now!

You need to have Stylus installed. So if you don't have it:
Install the Stylus Firefox Addon or the Chrome Extension (You can install Chrome Extensions on Edge as well)
Once it's installed into Firefox/Chrome/Edge you can proceed with adding this style or any other.
To add the style, follow the instructions:

Style will open a tag with it and in the left side you'll have a button that says "install style", click there.

UPDATE (12/04/2024): YOU CAN NOW UPDATE YOUR OLD TUMBLE DASHBOARD AGAIN!! After letting the server rest everything is now fixed. I will be leaving the Tampermonkey Backup still up but it will have less-frequent updates to remain a backup so please use the Stylus version!

Known issues:
Only two columns in Masonry view. Unfixable, Tumblr creates columns based on monitor size, if I try adding another column (because it doesn't exist) it just perpetually loads on screen.
Tempfix: Zoom out in chrome/firefox and it adds more columns
Search bar doesn't appear on some pages (like viewing a post), this is because Tumblr removed the search bar on those pages completely. Unfixable!
Tumblr has ONCE AGAIN CHANGED THE ACCOUNTS MENU. The menus are now shorter and have less information on them. This is unfortunately permanent. I do not see any way to fix this. Unfixable.
If you want people's icons to stay fixed in place, instead of scrolling with the dashboard add;
to the top of the code! You can also create a second userstyle by clicking the 'tumblr.com' part of the link in 'Write new Style' and adding the code in there! That way you don't have to worry about re-adding it when you update.
Solved issues: (Update)
Menus need to be manually closed SOLVED! in V.4 and updated in V.5! The menu & icon WILL scroll with you if you have removed the sticky header CSS, however, clicking anywhere on screen will make the Menu disappear still.
Masonry view in searches is now fixed!
Resized Messenger Chat Box!
NEW UPDATE 16/08/23, 23:55 BST v6.5: Figured out how to reorganise the icons in the header. Let me know if you have any problems with it and make sure to update your Userstyle! Some icons are hidden with Display: Block; you can hide more icons with this method!

Brought back SOME of the icons for Tumblrs latest update - Unfortunately, this does not bring back user icons for Reblogged posts! Make sure to yell at Tumblr for removing the icons as well as the horrible dashboard update here!
v7.5 Fixed icons for all posts and put them back where they came from!
v6.9.6.9 (I promise this is the last funny number): Fuck Off Buggy The Clown Update + All languages support for the old header design!
v7.0: Fixed the search bar for tumblrs new collections feature, so it looks like the original search bar!
v8.0: Fixed masonry view icons, hidden the reblog icon on dashboard icons, fixed icons in blog viewport
V8.1: Fixed issue with icons not working on soft-refresh & with endless scrolling disabled - be sure to complain to staff!
v9.3: Changed a few things with the search feature, I also made the posts less round.
UPDATE2 11/04/2024: SO We mighhtttt have overrun their servers. 😅 I'm getting a 500 Internal Server Error every time I try to fix it or upload it as a new style - the massive influx of people downloading the userstyle was probably too much. The Tampermonkey backup on Greasyfork works just fine though! Probably easier for a lot of people migrating anyway!
UPDATE 11/04/2024:: My code has broken on Userstyles.world, (it is now fixed as of 12/04/24) until this is fixed I have created a Tampermonkey Backup Version of the Userstyle so feel free to use this version if you've broken yours!

hi alie, please could you tell me how you made the lens flare and film grain effect on your recent rwrb fonts gifset? it looks so beautiful! i'm working on my very first gifset with blending and overlays and things, and i'd like to try my hand at learning some more new stuff 💛

i've found these overlays on youtube over the years, i don't remember exactly which videos they were, but if you look up "film strip overlay", "kodak overlay", "film grain overlay", etc for the film one, you should find something that you like. same goes for the light streak one: if you search for something like "light streak overlay", you'll get a bunch of nice one. then i download them via a website (i often use y2mate) and make a gif with screencaps from the dowloaded video(s) like i would any other gif.
once you have your overlay(s) ready to go as a smart object, duplicate it onto your gif, on top of everything (or under the typography layers), but definitely on top of coloring and blending, etc. put the overlay layer in a group, and if you have more than one overlay, put each overlay in its own group.
if the overlay is mostly black with some white specs/other colors, set that group's blending mode to screen (or lighten if it looks better). this will make everything that is black in the overlay transparent. and if the overlay is mostly white with some black, you can use the multiply (or darken) blending mode (it will make everything that is white transparent).
the reason why i prefer putting the overlay in a group and change the group's blending mode, instead of the overlay itself, is because it's easier to change its color that way if you wish. to change its color, i use a gradient map layer. the colors should be black to whatever color you want, and this layer should go into the overlay group, and n top of the overlay layer.
for my gifs in this rwrb set, there was also actually an animated grainy overlay below these two overlays. i've uploaded it here as a psd if you want, since it's pretty light. i put that layer in its own group and changed the blending mode to hard light and the opacity to 10%. i only used a gradient map to change the color on the color steak one to make it more of a pastel orange color, the two other overlays are as is without any color correcting layers.

Day and night toggle button that will stay in the selected mode until it is turned off. A dark mode option is available for those who prefer a dark color scheme on their blogs instead of the default light colors. The day and night mode button will also change according to the scheme you are using.
6 sections are included in the theme (blog posts, an about me, navigation links, muses, following, and recently liked posts).
Left or right sidebar. Both layouts are responsive on multiple screens including mobile.
You can also choose icons that you like for various elements of the theme (i.e. the menu links in the sidebar) from Tabler Icons. Please refer to the theme guide linked below for more information.

Options:
Instead of giving you a selection of post sizes to choose from, you can enter your desired post size (i.e. 500px or 40vw). The same applies to the sidebar.
A custom title and/or description. To activate the custom title and description options, just type anything in the text boxes "Custom Title" and "Custom Description."
You have the option to choose whether your accent colors will be a gradient or one color.
There is a selection of border styles and header styles to choose from.
Different sidebar images are optional. However, the first sidebar image that uses your header image as the default will always be visible on your blog. There is no option to hide it like the other sidebar image.
Show or hide tags on the index page.
Notes:
The search bar will be hidden automatically if you have the option to hide your blog from search results enabled.
The following and recently liked sections will only work if you're using the theme on a primary blog. It will not work with side blogs. Please also make sure you have enabled the options to share your following and liked posts in your blog settings.
