I'm a Hekate & Gaia devotee, and a pagan peace witch. I use they/them.
I post witchy guides, spells, etc. My goal with my practice is inner peace and acceptance. I practice mindfulness, embracing the natural world, and healing, using nature as my guide.

What's the difference between a book of shadows and a grimoire?
A book of shadows is your magical diary. You might write spells you've cast, dreams, tarot card pulls, etc. It's more personal.
A grimoire is your magical textbook. You might write colours, planets, herbs, and their correspondences. (I refer to my grimoire all of the time!) It's less personal.
Do I need these?
No, they're helpful for sure, but do what feels right to you.

Literally any part of witchcraft that you find interesting and that you want to learn. Starting with something you're interested in means you're more likely to actually do the research. Remember that knowledge is power.
Once you learn your first chunk, you'll find other chunks you might want to learn, and so on. Witchcraft involves a LOT of learning. So it doesn't matter where you start.
Some say you should start your practice with learning and working with your ancestors. Of course you don't have to, or maybe don't have the means to, but here are some pros:
Protection. Your ancestors have a interest in your survival.
They don't need worship. Researching and acknowledging them is enough.
A spirit ally. They're your family, they're less likely to mislead or drain you.
Cultural reclamation. You can reconnect with traditions that were lost due through colonization, migration, or assimilation.
You don't have to start here, but it is a nice addition to your practice.

Intention is the number one important part of spellwork. If you're doing a spell or ritual because you feel like you should, it's not going to work out. You can do spells with intention alone.
Ex. Protection, self love, inner peace, banishing, etc.
2. Add herbs or crystals
Choose ingredients that align with your intention.
Ex.
Rose for love
Lavender for peace
Salt for protection
Chamomile for comfort
Basil for grounding
3. Decide the Spell Format
Candle spell
Jar spell
Bowl spell
Bath spell
Paper spell
Chant or affirmation spell
Visualization spell
Choose the one that feels natural for your goal.
4. Build the Energy
This is the part most witches skip, but itβs what makes spells work.
Ex.
Breathwork
Visualization
Chanting
Touching your ingredients
5. Release the Spell
This is when you let the magic go.
Ex.
Blowing/snuffing out a candle
Pouring water out
Burying or burning paper
Closing a jar
Whispering your intention into your hands and releasing
The release is the moment the spell begins.
6. Seal the Work
A simple phrase or gesture locks the energy in place.
