I tried to get into this band previously, closer when this album came out. Something didn’t click then, but I picked this up from the dollar bin at my local shop and I am really digging just about everything in here. Has a very grunge garage punk sound to it. Kind of just plows through everything in a nice lo-fi way. I listened to some of their early recordings, which all seem to be variations of this set of songs. So I would imagine after years of working on these tracks they came to a well developed head. But even still, pretty enjoyable album of destruction.
Found out Red Animal War did a reunion show in Texas this past December, which is pretty awesome. Kind of wish I could have gone to that, never got to see them when they were actually around. They didn’t seem to tour near Philadelphia for some reason. If they did I never heard about it. I absolutely love this album though, and this song is perfect. ‘77 is up there too. I always wondered if there were more demo’s for Polizida besides the two for Satellites and Riot. The direction of those two track were going seemed more in line with the way those songs were written.
Death by Stereo’s first album is like a perfect pallet cleanser for me. It always feels good to put on. This is a band I wish I was able to see more when I was younger. I saw them twice, once coming in a lil late but when I showed up Efrem was in the pit already, going nuts, while the rest of the band was on stage. I also saw them one time with Good Riddance, for a full set this time, they had a ton of energy.
First time I saw D, O was at a lil’ anarchist bookstore in west philly. My now wife and I found out about the show that day so we booked it over there to catch it. They played with local love Mischief Brew, sadly gone. They’re sincerity and and purity really is not matched by many punk bands if you ask me. Especially for a band who has put out a fairly good chunk of music. I think this song is possibly the closest to feeling like a song that would be a commercial hit. It really is perfect in just about every way. I love a lot of Defiance, Ohio’s songs, but I just think this song will always and forever stick out as possibly the best starting point.

I will hopefully never understand the sort of violation this song’s lyrics are about. However, it still effects me on a pretty deep level. I think the mood and urgency the song conveys, for not being a straight forward punk song, makes it feel like it wasn’t written in the moment. It feels like it was captured and could never be reproduced like this again. I think Des Ark is kind of the perfectionist of these kinds of moments. Also, when I look for inspiration in deeply emotional music that hits on a real level, her music is one of the first places I look to.
This is a better album than I remember thinking back in August when it first came out. I think my expectations for artists I love and respect is always higher than they can probably hit. Also, my musical moods swing so hard that it is impossible to hit the mark for me every time.
Hey, remember when gossip was more a dirty dance punk band?
Terminal Deity, on repeat, all day, all life, forever.
One of my old bands played with Cara Beth at her house probably 10 years ago, before Outer Spaces or Witches. She was developing these songs during that time period, and I go back to them quite often. I think this collection, although not perfect, is of a very pure documentation. There is a lot of soul, and heart, and love poured into the chords and the words. I find that same kind of soul in Des Ark’s releases, especially her split with Ben Davis. Though there is more heart wrench there. I do not love perfect things. Perfection is not my goal. Connection is key.

On repeat, all day. Best Shai Hulud record ever.
Today, I would like certain people to just leave me alone.
New Blitzen Trapper is sounding pretty good. They’ve made mention that this is a companion album to Furr, which I only recently found in the past few years. I’m truly surprised considering the time the album came out, I was heavily into Sub Pop releases then and it fits the kind of music I was into at that time. Oh well, have it now, they are truly great. And check out Furr if you haven’t heard it, especially the title track.
Lets celebrate a new converge album this Friday with a song from my favorite era and one of my favorite albums from them. not so much the Agoraphobic Nosebleed though. they’re fine. The Dusk In Us comes out tomorrow!
One thing I know I can always goto. Broken is solid. Some people hate on Reznor and they're probably right but I still enjoy him. At this point more his instrumental outputs. However, not sure what to make of the Taco Bell revelation.

Having a rough morning, feeling this one though. I never really got into Integrity, but I picked this album up in my early days of getting into hardcore and definitely loved this opening track. Magic Bullet has reissued this and I really like that they put out there for public knowledge that if you stream this album on spotify or whatever the band gets money. Whereas, if you stream Victory’s... doesn’t seem so. I always heard about problems with Victory and paying out royalties to bands though, so not too surprising.
This summer my friend got together with her old band and put out a new album. I remember her talking about this possiblity a while back and even hearing this song in its early mixing stages. It is really good, and she’s a truly special writer, artist, singer and song writer. So its absolutely worth your 3 minutes and 46 seconds to check it out and see if you agree and enjoy it as much as I do. Also, the full album is only $5, so if you like this track consider picking it up for such a low price ($10 for the vinyl!! =)
