I. JAEHAERYS I AND SELYNE

Selyne and Jaehaerys never really got on; there were few occasions when the two of them could have a calm conversation without a minor argument breaking out in between.

Jaehaerys blames Selyne for the potential and better marriages his son, Aemon, could have had but didn’t. Although Selyne wanted to deny it, she hated the fact that he was right. He also blames her for Aemon’s ‘rebellious’ behaviour, for not listening to him, and for marrying someone outside his social class.

Although Selyne did not hate him all that much, she did not particularly like him either. But it all came to an end when the king got the Queen of Gael pregnant again, which infuriated the lady as it put the queen in danger. Nor did she approve of the way he behaved towards his daughters.

II. ALYSANNE AND SELYNE

Selyne greatly admires Alysanne for the changes she brought about for women and how she seemed to be the only one who listened to them. When they finally met, they formed a strong bond because they both shared the same desire to achieve great progress for women. Alysanne was very taken with Selyne because she could see a bit of herself in her. Selyne could almost always be seen by Alysanne’s side, taking notes so she could become a queen like her, and Alysanne was always willing to help the future queen of the Seven Kingdoms. But their relationship soured when Selyne heard about the arranged marriage between Viserra and Lord Manderly, leading to an argument on the matter. From that moment on, Selyne no longer saw the same woman she had admired; she distanced herself from her and went her own way. She doesn’t hate her; she didn’t like what she did to Viserra at all; she still respects her.

III. BAELON AND SELYNE

The two get on brilliantly; they aren’t particularly close, but they trust each other deeply. This is also because Baelon, when he found out about his brother’s little escapades and caught him out, took the blame. In doing so, he earned Selyne’s trust. They are polar opposites: Baelon is loud and Selyne is quiet, but that’s what he likes about Selyne because, in a way, they complement each other.

IV. ALYSSA AND SELYNE

Selyne really enjoyed spending time with Alyssa and admired her character. Although at first Alyssa didn’t seem very interested in Selyne, everything changed when she discovered that they both shared a love of horse riding. From then on, they used to race their horses together before Alyssa came to claim Meleys.

They also grew closer when they both fell pregnant in the same year with Elora and Viserys.

V. MAEGELLE AND SELYNE

Their relationship is neutral, although they respect one another and get on well; the only thing that sets them apart slightly is their respective beliefs. Selyne is a devout follower of the Old Gods, whilst Maegelle was a novice in the Faith of the Seven when they first met.

VI. VAEGON AND SELYNE

Vaegon had no intention of developing a relationship with her beyond being polite. Selyne, noticing the distance he was keeping, realised that she should only speak to him when strictly necessary.

VII. DAELLA AND SELYNE

They both had almost the same personality, but Selyne wasn’t as fearful as the princess. When Daella first met Selyne, she didn’t approach her, but as time went by she had become inseparable from Lady Fenn, always following her wherever she went. Selyne was very patient with the princess, always treating her kindly, which made Daella feel safe by her side.

Daella looked up to her just as she did to her mother.

VIII. SAERA AND SELYNE

Selyne and Saera weren’t close, even though Selyne had tried from the very beginning; it seemed Saera had absolutely no intention of warming to Selyne. As she had done with Vaegon before, Selyne respected the distance between them. The only thing Selyne didn’t quite like about the princess was her mischief; yes, she laughed at the harmless pranks, but the cruel ones were another matter altogether.

But what nobody knew was that Saera felt both admiration and envy towards Selyne, as the latter was the focus of attention both in the kingdom and from her mother.

IX. VISERRA AND SELYNE

When Selyne first met Viserra, the princess was still just a little girl, but Selyne couldn’t help but grow fond of her and always kept her by her side. She doted on her constantly, and Viserra loved it. The princess had also grown fond of the lady; it was impossible not to see them together.

It was Selyne who saved Viserra from an arranged marriage to Lord Manderly and found the princess a better husband. Viserra, trusting her as she did, left the matter to her and thanked her profusely for what she had done.
