🌧️ What kind of weather matches their soul?

Merenna really strikes me as those days where the sun is out, but the clouds are thick and plenty enough that it obscures the sun from making the weather too hot.

She's not exactly cold or intense like other Hollowmere descendants, and is quite the opposite! But I also don't think she's quite the sunny weather either. Even though she's very kind and calm, she still has a bit of an intriguing mystery to her, and even to court there's very little actually known about her. So, I think the right cloudy weather suits her perfectly!

🌹 What scent reminds them of the person they loved/love most?

There's two people she loved most— her father, Alec Hollowmere and her betrothed, Prince Matarys Targaryen.

She remembers Lord Alec smelling the most like candlewax and burnt herbs. When she was a child, she loved watching him tend to the candles of House Hollowmere, and she especially loved watching him catalogue herbs and create medicine. Even when they moved out of Soul's Rest for court, she swears he still smells like that.

Merenna thinks of Matarys when she catches the scent of newly washed fabric, and it smells like him perfectly with just the right amount of cologne. A lot of scents remind her of Matarys, even the scent of medicinal herbs and foul sickness on the sheets.

🪨 What’s the hardest choice they’ve ever made?

When Lord Alec was to be named Master of Whisperers, he sent a letter to Merenna asking if she wanted to come with him or to stay and watch over Soul's Rest. It took a while for Merenna to respond, as she was convinced Soul's Rest needed a Hollowmere to watch over them. It was her septa who convinced her to go, since only recently in history that House Hollowmere maintained relevance in court.

The Lady of the Lonely Keep. The Mist Rose.

Lady Merenna Hollowmere was the daughter of Lord Alec, the Master of Whisperers to King Daeron II. The young lady was described as bright and gentle; more open and conversational than how her predecessors were described. Warm and full of love as much as she was full of wit, all who met her agreed she was perfect for court. Her father was highly respected at the time for his assistance during the Blackfyre Rebellion, and arrangements to wed Merenna and Prince Matarys Targaryen were set in agreement. This was an unlikely but deeply appreciated honor for the house.

However, tragedy would strike across the blood of the Targaryens. No sooner had the realm begun mourning Baelon Breakspear, the King himself would perish from illness along with his grandson and heir, Prince Valarr Targaryen. With Matarys stricken and the maesters exhausted of remedies, Lady Merenna and her father pleaded that the court grant them one last attempt. They convinced council and septons alike that House Hollowmere knew treatments that others had not yet cultivated, and they may fare better in curing the Younger Prince. Riding to Soul's Rest with her dearly betrothed, Lady Merenna and Prince Matarys would never return. The visiting Maester of Soul's Rest would send a raven proclaiming Matarys' death, and that the illness had taken his lady betrothed as well.

Commonfolk of Soul's Rest claimed otherwise; that Lady Merenna had slowed the illness' progression, and Prince Matarys was alive longer than was documented. That the Prince was too frail to return to the burdens of court, and believing the realm had already consigned them both to memory, the lovers remained within the lonely halls of Soul's Rest.
