Matthew was trying so hard to move on from what had happened, but with the trust between them having been completely broken, it was easier said than done. Every time he thought he was getting somewhere, something would remind him about how she’d broken his heart and he would close up, both to Eve and about his feelings. Sighing softly as he heard his name, Matthew ran his free hand over his face, not fighting it as he was turned to look at her. He felt guilty about the way he was treating her, especially when she was the woman he was intending to propose to one day, but there was a small voice in the back of his mind telling him that she was going to do it again. “You think I like being like this? I don’t. It’s just going to take me a little longer than I thought to trust you again, you can’t blame me for that.”
Seeing the way he rubbed his face, she knew that it was quite possible that this could all start a fight between them. That’s how it had felt lately. Anytime she pushed, it started something. And she felt like she’d been walking around on eggshells. Like she had to somehow to do something that would prove herself to him. “No, I’m not blaming you for anything. I know that this is all my fault. Believe me, I know,” She began, knowing she needed to have more patience. But it still felt like they were so distant. “And I want to give you all the time you need, but I just need to know that this...you and me...is still something you want. Because right now, it feels like it’s the most painful thing in the world to you. Just tell me you want us together and I’ll drop it and keep just trying to show you that I’m not going to go anywhere this time.”
