no one at home would believe him , even if he had any desire to tell his parents what the hell had happened. sure , the whole two dead friends thing seems to have gotten through to them enough to at least check in to see if he wanted to talk. but beyond that , it's been him and his nightmares thoughts as the shadows grow and change inside his room. he's never... snuck out before. it's not like he was invited to most things that would require the act. but hey , it's been a lot of firsts recently , right ?

hatchetfield is different at night , but he's gotta figure that whatever's lurking in the shadows can't be worse than an undead max jagerman. or almost being shot by the hottest girl he's ever seen. he's almost halfway to pinebrook when he realizes he doesn't even have his phone on him. not like it matters much. half the contacts on there are dead gone.

he's only lightly regretting the choice when he finally arrives are steph's place. the starless sky overhead like the inside of a mouth , ready to swallow him whole for his hubris. still , he knocks. and waits. and knocks. and waits some more. what the hell are you doing , spankoffski ? he's about to turn to leave , walk back home the way he came through the darkness , when the door opens and he's met with a sight that makes his heart stutter. @slautertm.

❛ can’t sleep? ❜

though no one preparation for death, let alone multiple deaths that feel like they all are her fault, nothing would have prepared her for the eerie emptiness that has consumed her home. it feels almost as though she’s been swallowed into some black hole, or at least what she thinks a black hole is, science is far from her best subject, but she had been trying to look into it before accomplices that she oh so desperately wants to call friends started dying one by one. everything feels muffled from the heavy amount of guilt and grief and fear that she feels, sleeping is a fucking waste of time, any that comes is either full of horrors that feel worse than the ones she’s seen with her own eyes or blank and empty and achieved by taking something from the liquor cabinet. she could have guessed that all of that might happen, but nothing could have prepared her for the strange terror that had become her house.

the lauter home had always never truly been a home to steph, certainly not in the sense of that bullshit saying home is where the heart is or whatever the fuck. in a way it has always been quiet, the only laughter that echoed she can recall is from times she’s made herself laugh with a youtube video or a tiktok, when there was conversation it was more often than not yelling or at least angry words being passed back and forth, but other than that… nothing. it was not like this stillness. this is not her home. she doesn’t belong here. she’s always known and felt that, but she has nowhere else to go and the sheer nothingness around her only pulls her deeper into that swirling and dark black hole.

the knock at her door is like a rope being thrown to pull her out and the sight of peter spankoffski is like a fucking sunbeam.

she’s trying her very best to hide just hope she is to see him, but his little joke, no matter how all too real it feels makes her smile as a huff of laughter leaves her mouth, her shoulders relaxing. “ come on in spankoffski. ” she opens the door up for him. “ just don’t mind the mess. ” she pauses. “ not that the whole house is messy or anything, i’ve just been working on something. ” she doesn’t want to talk about that, though, and she hopes he won’t ask. all the same, she can’t let silence linger, so the minute she shuts and locks the door behind him, she starts talking.
