Rage is addictive, you know. I guess it’s sorta like a drug. Anger and hatred get you high. They get you high, but like any addiction, they hollow you out and tear you down and eat you alive.

Fucking ass twisted my wrist.
I warned you about over exerting yourself.
Since when is it my fault, when someone decides to play dirty? I swear I didn't provoce them this time.

Fucking ass twisted my wrist.
No combat training for me, so the doctors say. Fuck this.
Two Funerals | Daniel & Skylar | 21/05/14
Girls, oh how he hated girls. The top of the list was always those frilly bitchy girls back at his secondary school. Well not really all girls, but he would definitely prefer this seemingly crazy like girl than them. When she laughed, a laugh that conveyed both mockery and insanity, Daniel couldn’t help but tilt his head in though, a split second thought that made him stand up there and try. not. to. do. anything. This was just like what he felt back then, so many years ago. But this time, the girl was different she was way over a different league, but the outcome was still the same.As she was more and more agitated and her shouts were more and more infuriated… a kind of shout that he could feel people looking at them, he knew that he had lost the battle, but in the end not the war. He knew this feeling, he knew it as it was a kind of anger he had mustered back then and yet never tried to take advantage of. Daniel let himself be hit.
He looked into her eyes, her felt the only things that hurt were definitely the points she was hitting. “No, i’m not dumb. I want you to let go of it.” he knew that was a lie, no one could really let go of whatever they felt. For him, maybe, just maybe someone could bury it deep deep down, but never could someone just forget the pain and hurt.
Daniel didnt’ want to fight back, even though he knew he had at least a good advantage of several years of training back then. This was the kind of emotion a bully let go when hurt and kicked, and rather than have it’s tails between it’s legs, it continues to bite just for the sake of it.
He got hit again, and yet he tried his best not to shout, not to feel, the only thing that showed his hurt was the twitching of his knuckles. His nails drawing blood from trying to control himself.
As the timer chimed for the end of sparring lesson to be announced. He waited to see if the girl would get off or not. Probably not, but hell, he smirked internally. That would probably be what would happen. God did he feel sore like a piece of battered banana.
„I want you to let go of it.“, she imitated his voice, mocking the words. Everyone tried to be so bloody helpful and no one really knew that they were doing it all wrong. Skylar wasn’t sure if there even was a right way to console her. Maybe she wanted them to tell her to snap out of it. No one had done that and it took away her answer full of anger and spite. Comforting gestures weren’t something that the brunette grew up with and she didn’t know how to react. The ground she was standing on was shaking, breaking away beneath her, whenever someone tried to reassure her that it would be ok. Fuck the lot of them. She stared at him intensely, hoping to get him to avoid her gaze.
She was in a fury now, completely absorbed in the act of inflicting pain in her victim, in hopes of easing her own lack of control. Skylar wasn’t an individual that ever had appreciated feeling powerless. And he was the perfect partner for her intention since he didn’t fight back at all, this was so easy. She had him pressed to the ground now and wanted him to shout and scream. It wasn’t enough to just see him struggle a little. She wanted him crouching on the ground in agony. Her fist rained down on his face again. Fuck him and his stupid self-restraint. What good did it buy him? It certainly wouldn’t get him into the good graces of the authority. She wanted to ruin his face for that alone.
Morning
There’s nothing wrong with waking up early. Just. Not this early.
Are you crying? Don't start crying on me, sleepyhead. I won't give you any comfort.
Two Funerals | Daniel & Skylar | 21/05/14
He smiled, a smile not so different from any other smile beforehand, and yet the words that left his lips spoke a tone he didn’t even think he would say. “Nah, I don’t think so. Wesley did say otherwise. No matter how little I think of myself, I don’t think Division will ever see me as a lost cause.” That’s because he couldn’t… he would do anything, for himself, for Division and the people around him if given in that situation. Granted it seemed like such a far fetch thought, and yet he believed it in. Naive maybe, but real all the same. “I believe…” he shrugged, his poise went for defense rather than offense “that no one is weak, what is weak depends on how they act on it.” But that didn’t mean someone was weak just because they were releasing anger… sometimes to be strong, one had to be pulled down at quite the weight.
"You are free to think that way" he answered, ending it in a tone that left the listener to think about it… opinions are the only things people can form here, opinions that could not be said anyway. She kept talking, talking and talking and anger came rushing forth that felt like there was a dragon breathing at him, and yet he didn’t feel like he was getting burnt. It was a different kind of sensation, he had the will to finish this well, maybe he would be scathed in the process, but that didn’t mean in the end he didn’t win a part of it. Anger made someone fast, but it also made someone hasty. The best Daniel could do, if ever he did get hit, was to continue on and just let time go - if ever she got tired, or even tired of talking to him then that was it. Just as she hastily as she attacked, was just as fast, but without anger - he avoided, and so he ducked - worst that could happen is the girl could fall over him, after all, he was a pretty tall guy bending downwards.
The laugh that hurried over Skylar’s lips wasn’t loud enough to draw everyone’s attention but the slight chuckle had an insane edge to it that was a warning sign. He might think himself so valuable but the truth was that no one inside Division was valuable enough to not be scrutinised and considered for cancellation just for the sake of it. He was making a fool out of himself by ignoring that the truth of the harsh reality. There was no way that the brunette could give him any answer to that since she couldn’t even bring herself close enough to his way of thinking to muster up a reply.
“Of course I am” He ducked her attack but Skylar was fast to adjust herself and use her other hand to punch him in the stomach. The blow was not that hard at the one against the neck would’ve been but it would still hurt. By God she hoped that it did hurt him. “How can someone be this naive and dumb?!” Then she doubled back to adjust herself but didn’t leave much time before she aimed another upper cut that hit the boy squarely in the jaw. Pain washed over the recruit as she felt her bones scrape against his but it made her feel alive. Oh so alive! She grinned when he toppled over and assisted his fall by aiming another kick at his left. All the time she had the advantage over him but only now she was starting to enjoy that advantage to the fullest.
“It sounds beautiful. Very gentle and smooth. I mean I’ve only heard one word but the difference between Hawaiian and Russian is very clear.” Maya said in enthusiasm, hoping to hear her say more if Maya showed her eagerness to continue this conversation. “Would you like to teach me a few more words?” Maya asked, beaming at the other brunette excitedly as she hoped for a positive answer.
"Ehm..." Skylar took a tentative step backwards and crossed her arms in front of her chest. She felt her cheeks starting to burn and was immediately annoyed by the reaction. "Thanks. I love it a lot but... but I'm not sure that I.. ehm.. would be a good teacher or anything." No one ever asked Skylar to show hem what she knew, thinking her too arrogant and selfish to even consider taking time to enlighten them. In most cases they had been right of course and she often would just snap at them but right now she just felt overwhelmed by the simple request.

Morning
I never thought the perks of growing up included waking up at the ass crack of dawn, but whatever you say.
You don't know it, if you haven't tried it. Don't be such a princess about it. What's so wrong with getting up early?
A smile still on her face she handed Skylar the piece of paper, tilting her head in slight confusion at the unknown word that left the girl’s lips. “Ma- Mahalo?” Maya wondered, a giggle escaping her at the funny sound, never having heard anything like it. Yet she hoped to, always enjoying the sound of people speaking in their native language.
"Oh that's just thanks." Skylar hadn't even processed that the words had slipped out of her mouth. It seemed so natural but now it also made her remember that she hadn't spoken Hawaiian ever since she came to the bunker. "It's Hawaiian.", she added quickly, a bit offended that the other one was laughing at her but since it had been Maya who patched her up rather recently she didn't grow angry. She owed her.
Standing in the Mud | Keira & Skylar
It occurred to her belatedly that the question, which came purely from a place of curiosity, was a rather snide one, and Keira immediately felt guilty. She hadn’t meant to insinuate anything, and hoped the girl was not offended. She seemed melancholy as is, and Keira didn’t wish to add onto that. Her lips twisted in a pantomime of eating something sour at the notion that she might hurt anyone’s feeling with her words. She was abrupt – she knew that. She could be stinging with sarcasm she didn’t truly mean, and overextending in her familiarity with others. Even now, she fought the temptation to put a hand on Skylar’s arm, but stopped herself. The girl would most likely not welcome the touch of somewhere she barely knew, even if it was Keira’s natural way and a sign of her empathy for whatever the girl clearly was struggling through.
“Yeah, me neither,” Keira answered honestly, her voice low. Her eyes widened when she saw Skylar become more and more animated, and she couldn’t help the smile that grew on her face. Keira wasn’t quick to judge – never had been. She didn’t understand this girl any better than Skylar understood her, and yet if it got her to talk, Keira warmly welcomed the extension of the topic. “I’ve gotta be honest, I haven’t thought much about it yet,” she confided with a half-hearted, almost nervous chuckle. “I think mainly it’s because I know I’m going to suck when I finally do use one of these things.” She rolled her shoulders, her head lolling to the side. The side of her mouth quirked up playfully. “I’ll probably just bullshit my way through that first exercise, most likely. Although I’m kind of afraid to see how my handler will take that.” Her eyes widened fractionally in a comical sort of way at the thought. Chiron wouldn’t like that at all…
Even though she wanted to merely feign interest in the person beside her, Skylar noticed quite obviously the smile that formed on the other female’s lips when she listened to her speaking. She wondered if she was merely smiling because she found her interest amusing or if she actually shared her opinion. It didn’t occur to the brunette of course that Kiera might merely be reacting to the fact that the recruit was shedding her coat of ignorance ever so slightly because she didn’t ever feel herself smile when she saw someone talk animatedly about a subject to their heart. Instead Skylar grew continuously bored with listening and was not able to hide it.
“That’s why we train.”, she shrugged not really sharing the same nervousness about the matter with her opposite. “Eventually you’ll be good at it or dead.” It was a cruel thing to say maybe but Skylar didn’t like to sugar-coat the obvious. If Kiera hadn’t realised by now that Division ruled over its recruits with a firm and always eager to kill hand, then she really was not that bright after all. One of the first things you learned in Division was that this was not a holiday or an adventure. it didn’t stop the brunette from feeling excited about it but it surely made her cautious as well. At least usually because lately she felt like it wasn’t even worth it. She didn’t feel motivated since the constant thread of death was not enough to make her survival instincts kick in – as contradictory as that was. “Who’s your handler?”, she asked picturing Wesley in front of her inner eye and remembered that she had never seen him shoot a gun in their training.
A Distant Sadness | Maya & Skylar
“That doesn’t mean you should get used to experiencing less either.“ Maya said with a low voice, not wanting for anyone to take such abuse for granted. No one of them deserved to fear for their safety on a regular basis and if the recruits just would have been more aware of that rather than fighting each other they probably would live a better life down her. Stick together, don’t resist each other. It was a simple rule, one that Maya had hoped to convince others of ever since she was recruited and apparently … she had failed miserably, because most recruits shared the same mindset as Skylar and while she couldn’t wrap her mind around it she also couldn’t blame them for such behavior. Many of them had gone through horrible things, were forced to learn at a very young age that life was a survival of the fittest.
“Every now and then?“ Maya said in response before shrugging, not wanting to be further reminded of how she once tended to Valentina’s self-inflicted wounds, recalling the amount of blood that had tainted the towels and sheets in their apartment. Ever since then Maya had made sure to put all knives and other short objects out of the woman’s reach, along with any pills that were life-threatening when taking an overdose. She continued cleaning the cuts, repeating the process on Skylar’s other hand while banishing these thoughts from her mind as she wrapped up her knuckles once applying an ointment that should help her wounds to heal faster.
Skylar just blankly stared at the other brunette, not sure if she could fully grasp what she was trying to tell her. Logically it was what someone would say and she had read enough articles on the subject of abuse to realise that it wasn’t how things should be but that was just the part of her that was always thinking things through. Her subconsciousness didn’t agree with that assessment and so the recruit had never found it particularly disturbing. Had she revealed too much right now? She decided to not dive deeper into the subject matter if she could at all avoid it. The hassle was too big for her and Maya wouldn’t understand if she tried to explain and she was entirely unsure if she could even explain it at all.
“Oh, don’t you get tired of it? Caring for people?”, she asked bluntly. Even though her question was honest and the answer interested her, it was maybe not the best approach for the matter. Still Skylar wanted to know what motivation people had to do something seemingly selfless like patching up her hands and cleaning the cuts in them. She seemed routined enough in this, the way she wrapped up her knuckles after applying an ointment for whatever purpose. Had Division given her a first aid class and well or had she learned that before? Should Skylar try to learn this stuff as well and offer it up for others? With her rap sheet the recruits would most likely think that the brunette was up to something unholy even though there wouldn’t be any reward in it for her. No, this wasn’t the kind of activity that she would enjoy, she decided after following this train of thought. She would grow bored and impatient. She studied her now cleaned and freshly wrapped hands, approving of how professional it looked. “Well done.”, she praised quietly.

Two Funerals | Daniel & Skylar | 21/05/14
Even though he was a good head or more taller than her, never in his mind did he think he was great at anything combat like, sure he had his moments of greatness back then, and he could of course try and be serious in what he was doing… if he had the point to be serious anyway. It wasn’t like he had to get out of the bunker that fast, and it wasn’t like this will be the only time he was going to go into sparring with someone. Rather than just defend himself, why waste time exerting energy?
Still, as she started to speak, he raised his eyebrows to reply and shrug. “A bit yeah.” It wasn’t like he wasn’t planning on moving, more like, he just didn’t expect something like that happening, but it was just one of his internal moments other people wouldn’t understand and would probably end up ridiculing him for it.
He knew that he should fight, but he apart from not feeling of doing anything, he couldn’t help but think she wanted to hurt him, just because… not because it was a sparring session, but because she was angry somehow, he shrugged it off for now.
She continued on and he smiled with another shrug, “I wish, but that would be stupid, Division doesn’t do stupid like that.” he resepcted Division in a way, that’s why he took kindly to the petty theft, after all, he was sure the girl herself knew that Division meant business.
He waited for her attack again, a part of him just not wanting to attack, but defend, or rather, he just wanted to find out what that feeling was in front of him, niggling in his thoughts and yet he couldn’t fathom. He needed more lead.
The only reason why Skylar could resist rolling her eyes at the dark-haired was because it would quite possibly distract her attention from the primary objective, which was of course beating her opponent in combat. Admittedly it didn’t seem to be a big task at all, but the brunette had never been one to let down her guard that easily. Her brain had immediately decided that his answer wasn’t even worthy a real reply from her, so she kept her lips pressed together. Her teeth were grinding on each other in annoyance and anger and the ridiculousness that the other recruit displayed so openly. “Then maybe you should kill yourself before they decide to give you up a lost cause.”, she suggested then, not able to keep quiet after all. Someone so weak most decidedly didn’t deserve to be given a second chance after they screwed up. People like him were waste and weighted the world down, while the ones that actually enriched it were gone forever.
“Obviously they do.” Her voice was not raising, she was not sounding anything like the brooding fire inside her. She wanted to hurt this one just for being so weak, so pathetic. “They exchange the good ones with ones like you and this place will go downhill.” The brunette wasn’t set against what Division was and what it stood for but she didn’t care about how her words might be interpreted by the casual listener. She also didn’t care that there were other tasks that had to be done inside the facility that didn’t require field skills. Then she moved forward like a panther finally deciding to tackle its prey and aimed for his neck with her arm, putting all her anger inside the blow. If it hit it would hurt him and if she was lucky she might even snap his neck. Better spare Division the work of having to kill him later.
A Distant Sadness | Maya & Skylar
“Oh! Uhm … in that case … that’s totally fine. I guess.“ Maya said, stumbling over her words as she considered them carefully, not wishing to upset of offend the girl, knowing that she was always on thin ice with this particular female recruit. The last thing she wanted was to be forced to muster up her own hand-to-hand combat skills, especially since she wasn’t even sure that hers matched up with Skylar’s if her bruised fists were any indication for that assumption.
Once Maya spotted the scraped skin she wondered how much force Skylar had been putting into a punch to cause such damage, considering that she had been wearing tapes and shouldn’t be injured at all if only for a few faint bruises. Another thought that came to her mind was how that other recruit was looking like. Skylar had mentioned a fellow recruit’s jaw, causing the Russian to wince inaudibly as the image of a bruised and bleeding face popped up in her mind, but she refused to show her terror on her features. Instead she reached for the cloth she had brought along with the medical kit and dipped it into a bow of warm water, making sure to wipe the areas with all the open cuts before starting to clean the wound gently, reminding herself that she would have to repeat this procedure on her other hand as well. “I am sorry, this might hurt.“ Maya murmured with an apologetic smile on her lips as she continued cleaning the wound.
Skylar let her gaze linger on the brunette’s face for a moment, considering how sincere her reply had been before deciding that she wouldn’t gain anything from pondering over that question for longer than she already had. She didn’t really know what had made her hesitate to agree with her but she also didn’t care. If the agent was having troubles voicing her thoughts then this was not something that she needed to consider on her end of things.
She let the young woman take care of her hands without any protest or resistance. She felt the void inside her grow bigger and bigger again and it made her feel calm and balanced once again. Maybe for the first time in a while, she felt like she had a chance of regaining that control, that she liked to have over herself and the things happening around her, return. “Don’t worry. Had worse.”, she responded to the well-meant words without thinking about what this might reveal about herself. She had never talked about the ways that her parents would punish her at the slightest misstep since she had found out at a young age that it wasn’t normal and that it would be better to not stick out even more than she already had. Now it was different though. It was like the inside of Division’s bunker gave her more freedom and security to be completely herself than her home island. If she could just combine the good of this place with the good of Honolulu, then she would be happy. “Do you do this often?”, she asked to fill the silence between them.
