According to my best reckoning, my skykid’s second birthday is today (June 19). I did a photoshoot in some of my favorite realms to celebrate.
I very vividly remember my first day playing, how awestruck I was by the soundtrack and the landscapes. Some days I go into Isle of Dawn and just let the introduction music play because it brings me back to that first day immediately and that makes me happy.
Aaaaand then there was my confusion when I entered Daylight Prairie for the first time and realized that I was super lost and had no idea what I was in for. I keep forgetting about and then rediscovering this little path you walk up in Isle before entering Prairie. I should practice music here because there’s never anybody there and it’s very easy to get to quickly.
Hidden Forest was my favorite realm for the first few months playing (especially once I got the umbrella and didn’t need to worry about the rain anymore), and it still has some of my favorite places to hang out. The soundtracks from all the areas are so beautiful and calming, unlike some of the other realms which have at least one area with a soundtrack I’m not as fond of.
Sometimes I just come to this cave and sit and look at the runes. I remember being speechless the first time I lit the candles here and all the runes spread across the walls. I didn’t quite understand what they were showing, but the sense of wonder and discovery immediately outweighed my disappointment of there not being a spirit memory or winged light inside the cave.
I know some people don’t like Vault of Knowledge because the elevators are boring, but I love the soundtrack so much. The summit has some of my favorite music in the entire game (along with the approach to Orbit after finishing the Eye of Eden, the credits song, the opening soundtrack, and one or two of Forest’s themes). I also like the dim, soft lighting in Vault and the Starlit Desert (which is also a favorite location although I didn’t take any pictures there today).
I love spirit mantas. They’re the most mesmerizing creatures in the game.
I’ve loved playing Sky so much over the past years. It’s really become such a big part of my life because it’s one thing that I’ve done consistently every day: a bit of predictability in a stressful life. I’ve met some amazing people here, and most of the skykids you meet are so chill and friendly. I know I won’t be able to play forever, but for now I’m just cherishing every day I play.
