Its hard to explain how much that means to a small team. Maybe this strange little world really has a future.

We made an RTS where you build the monster army heroes are usually sent to destroy. Harvest DNA, weapons and body parts from defeated enemies, evolve new creatures, and carry your surviving units from mission to mission. It’s called The Hive. Would you play it?

The Hive is currently the third best selling game on Itchio. The only games ahead of our underground insectoid RTS are a horror game about surviving retail customers and another about escaping a murderous nun. It’s been a pretty wild week.

What happens when Itchio features an indie game on front page? The Hive has received 6,000 visits so far, up from its usual 50–150 per day. Very little data exists on what this exposure converts into, so we’re tracking traffic, downloads and sales to help other developers.

Calm before the storm

We made The Hive for everyone who grew up loving RTS games and never really stopped.

For us, traffic on a normal non sale day on Steam looks like this. Most visitors come organically by searching for The Hive directly on Steam. The second largest source is the “More Like This” section. It’s always interesting to see how different the traffic sources can be from one game to another.
