Daniel & Bert are such interesting pair of killers i've ever written even for the creeps
Daniel is so violently emotional and arrogant, He embodies pride and ego entirely. Him constantly deceiving everyone feeds his ego and only instills that he's some sort of amazing actor in his head. He searches for power over everyone else through the fear he instills as the count of Delorn, He also just naturally likes killing people because of this weird delusional mentality that "the more he kills the more he transcends beyond a man" [a concept inspired by halloween kills]
So Daniel's goal is basically just: Kill people to become more of a monster and feed his ego
But Bert is, Weird.... He's not malicious and killing is far from a sport or a form of entertainment, It is simply second nature to him. He is far from biased and short tempered even when he is hunting. To him other people & humans aren't the same as "him" and it more or less like squishing a bug. But if this is the case why does he activately chase this habit?? Apart of me just thinks it's something in his head that just tells him to do it
To me bert doesnt have somes sort of goal, He takes nothing personal when hunting and gains nothing at the end of all of this

Daniel Hamish Markson is the son of Florin Markson and Amelia DeVille. His father originated from India while his mother originated from Romania, The two marrying within the mid 20th century before bringing life to the young Daniel Markson the very next year. Both Florin And Amelia were both very wealthy and renowned people within the city of Delorn, Both being actors throughout their entire lives. Naturally Daniel followed in his parent's footsteps, only to be led into a world of false fantasy and years of abuse from other members. His most famous role being an adopted son in a small stereotypical family sitcom, Before gaining more notice for a for foreign sheriff within a western. But despite all the fame he collected, In the eyes of this young child it was far from worth it. Not only his childhood being robbed from him but having to endure a lot of abuse and neglect throughout the years. Especially from his own supposed parents.
The more Daniel suffered the more he began to lack empathy and humanity. Eventually becoming Nothing more than an empty husk. Which allowed him to fill this emptiness with bitterness, spite and hatred towards his tormentors as a small seed of violence weeded within the cogs of his clockwork mind. Placing upon a public persona of a loving and caring person, Daniel vents his anger through the nights. Enacting his internal blood lust upon those who were out of public light, As he soon began feasting upon the bodies he slowly piled up.
But what started as a grasp for power, soon spiraled for a thirst for blood. His unnatural body being unable to gain no disease or illness upon consumed flesh sparked an idea within Daniel's Mind when he gazed upon the mask of a pale vampire. That following night, To immortalize himself and truly make himself known. Daniel disguised himself as a creature of the night donning the same mask he saw earlier. As he slaughtered both his own mother and father, not only as an act of revenge but to watch the reaction of his horrible deed. To watch fear wash over the city slowly but surely
But what should've ended only continued, again and again. Daniel donned that same mask persona again, To kill again and again. Knowing that not only he was the one behind the fear for the now well known "Count Of Delorn" but to laugh at the faces of everyone. Knowing his innocent public sona was deceiving everyone, Feeding his ego as the greatest actor of them all. While he continues to haunt the city of Delorn

He's a heavily flawed person but that doesn't mean he is purposely evil or malicious, Sure he does certain stuff for himself [say trying to scare someone away or fight someone off] but thats because he's trying really hard to keep himself alive from a invisible force that isnt real

but he would never ever kill or purposely hurt someone even for self gain thats just not his nature
In all honesty Kane's version of the backrooms lowkey fixed my view on & love for the concept of the backrooms
Because everyone on the internet with basically "scp but liminal rooms & monsters" really began to bored me over time because it was just the same over and over again to the point it just annoyed me
with the movie & Kane's interpretation it went back to its old roots and played with different stuff that was kinda refreshing to me especially with how certain things funcation
