your friends are coming over so you decide to bake them a cake. you've seen them eat cake previously and you know the type of cake they like. you spend hours working on this cake and you put time and effort into finding a recipe that you know they'd like and you bake it. you put cool icing on it and you're so excited to show your friends and have them try it.

your friends come over and you show them this cake that you put time and effort into making. one person grabs a slice without saying anything. everyone else looks at it and goes "oh nice cake" but no one tries a slice. these same people then go and eat all of the Doritos that your buddy Kevin bought on the way here.

now you aren't mad at Kevin and you're thankful they brought something but you're a little upset that only one person tried your cake.

"why don't you try some?" you ask all the people who said the cake looked cool

one person says they don't eat cake in this outfit, another says you have an issue with validation.

"we don't need to eat this," says one friend, "you just made this for yourself you shouldn't need to share your things."

and you're screaming internally because its a cake it's meant to be shared you made it for yourself to eat with others.

Later that week you run into your friends again who introduce you to a new person.

"This is my friend who makes cakes," they say, "hey when are you going to make us a cake?"

and you sit there confused because, yeah, you do make cakes. except last time you made a cake barely anyone touched it. no one appreciated it which made you less inclined to buy ingrediants and spend hours making another cake. yet here they are, asking you for cake.

yeah, this is a fucking metaphor.

reblog people's creations bc the like to reblog ratio is absolutely screwed up. because people go into ask boxes asking artists to draw things for them and then don't reblog anything else. when creators express their annoyance at no one sharing their stuff, don't go and tell them they have an issue with validation and attention then go and consume their content? that's fucked up.

ALSO: liking something and queueing it is absolutely fine. it's still reblogging. make a sideblog if you're scared about ruining your aesthetic. just DON'T fucking like this post then keep on not reblogging creations. reblogging is NOT reposting it still gives credit to the artist if that's something you're worried about.
