not trying to he rude here, but what do you have against centrists?
hi, thank you for sending me this ask
There is often a contradiction between the meaning of our actions toward a person and what we say we feel toward that person in a journal. But this does not mean that what we do is shallow, and only what we confess to ourselves is deep. Confessions, I mean sincere confessions of course, can be more shallow than actions.
Susan Sontag, from As Consciousness is Harnessed to Flesh (via violentwavesofemotion)
All the little nouns are the ones that I like most: the deer, the sun, and so on. You say these perfectly little words and you’re asserting that the sun is ninety-three million miles away, and that there is shade because of shadows, and more, who knows? It’s a tremendous structure to have built out of a few small nouns.
George Oppen interviewed by L.S. Dimbo in Contemporary Literature Vol. 10, No. 2 (Spring 1969)
“Anorexia: You can’t have that bagel for lunch. That would be a breach of Rule #382
Me: Rule #382?
Anorexia: Yes, rule #382: Bagel for breakfast cannot be followed by bagel for lunch. Rule #382
Me: Since when did that rule exist? That wasn’t there before.
Anorexia: You weren’t eating bagels before, therefore Rule #382 was not needed. You started eating bagels now, so I implemented it to save you from eating too many bagels.
Me: How about bread, I’ll have bread instead of a bagel
Anorexia: NO! That would be a breach of Rule #124. No bread items in the same day as similar bread items.
Me: Since when was that a rule?
Anorexia: Since you started eating bread” —Tabitha Faraar Eating disorders are like this! They’re like totalitarian governments that absorb the spontaneity of life, and turn it into their own logic, as if it were there the whole time.

Man was not a thinker. He did not feel any need to go beyond faith- Kierkegaard, Fear ad Trembling Redemption
Jean Cocteau - Le sang d’un poète (1930) My thoughts (or what I finally got out of them, once I left a stupefied and agonisingly long moment of, well stupidity) Exteriority meets with interiority (think of the imagery of jumping through the mirror [”he must go beyond mere self-fascination in order to experience revelation” -  James WIlliams]), not to affirm either, but as necessarily escaping one another, and colliding, at all given times, so neither can be represented accurately. Which does not lead you to cease attempting representation, but to kill yourself over and over again, which will necessarily kill your world over and over again. The blood of a poet features the poet dying before an unknown crowd, a careless crowd, a disingenuous crowd. His life offered to bourgeois society; for “aesthetic salvation” to be saved from your art. To literally die, and be reborn. For it must be remembered it was his art that gave his the mouth.Â

Let us consider for a moment the surrealists lofty aims: at what point does a manifesto contradict surrealism? Why do we study surrealism now (remembering spontaneity, imagination, defamiliarisation, these are the surrealists aims)? Is it a narrative towards post-modernism, who then claims “there is no narrative!”? Is the narrative your oppressor, and we the counter-culture?
uGHHHH why do people have to vomit feminism all over everything
it’s kinda the next big thing in america right after mac n’ cheese only mac and cheese is unbeatable and i do understand the use of vomit here i feel like certain people gain their self-importance through non-stop babbling about what they think about this and what they think about that and they end up filtering nothing or understanding even less and that’s scary. this whole concept is fucking scary. and i’m not talking about strictly feminism…i’m talking about all supposedly pro-equality trends floating around tumblr. i can understand people feeling the need to relate and feeling the need to belong and be part of something they consider important but jesus fucking christ some of the nasty perspectivism on here………..and the need to make something about something when IT WAS NOT about that certain something in the first place. that’s not a belief system, it’s more like i enjoy internet debates and drama and excuse the fuck out of me but i’ll go ahead and twist your words around and make this about me and my need to express my opinion without even being asked to and blah blah since i know that what i’m talking about is valid that gives me the right to ruin everyone else’s aesthetic and fuck up several posts just cuz i can and what I think is valid also i’m very bored and kinda don’t have a self (took it too far, but yeah, that is to say i feel you on this)…it’s all empty and there’s no individuality in that kind of thinking and it’s not about ideas or personal integrity or anything whatsoever it’s just nasty trends and people parroting crap they’ve read and thus coming to feel “ohhhh i have value and i matter cuz i’m part of this!!”
Oh my god you said it so perfectly, so perfectly, I went on a hiatus from Tumblr because of the - everything you just wrote - but then started reading, and decided I had posted too much on Facebook, and since I used Tumblr as a literary feed, maybe I’ll be fine. then on my first day back I see this, and, and and, this was the right decision.
Some take refuge in despair, which is sweet like strong tobacco, like a glass of vodka drunk in the hour of annihilation. Others have the hope of fools, rosy as erotic dreams. To me is given the hope of revenge on others and on myself, for I was he who knew and took from it no profit for myself.

Technical infrastructures are not limits on our humanity, but its conditions. We can debunk silicon salvation without resorting to deluded conceptions of original purity. It is a weird side effect of new media to produce florid opt-out fantasies — you could spend hours watching beautiful videos on YouTube showing life off the grid. The urge to unplug is a real one, but often the cure and the disease are in cahoots. If you let the technology tell how to get out of it, you get all the more embedded in it; this urge to check out from but via technology is like a con artist that lulls you into trust by telling you he is conning you. The promised cure of being free of technology is usually just another technology that isn’t recognized as such. The choice is always the much more difficult one of which technologies and techniques to engage, not whether to abandon them altogether

The individual never ceases passing from one closed environment to another, each having its own laws: first, the family; then the school (“you are no longer in your family”); then the barracks (“you are no longer in school”); then the factory; from time to time the hospital; possibly the prison, the preeminent instance of the enclosed environment.
