This is a follow on from my previous post about the meaning of the card the Yellowjackets pull in the show. I plan to do one for every hunt/card drawing and fair warning, this one is a bit lengthy since nearly every character draws more than once. So without further ado, let's do this! FYI for some reason the majority of GIFs just refused to upload so most of the pics with just be pics :(

Van

Van pulls the 8 of Spades card. According to my research, this card often called the card of illness, which fits in quite well considering the fact that Van was suffering from cancer at the time. This card tells the seeker that are in restrictions partly self-imposed. I believe this ties in as Van was the one who called off the mental institute from coming to the compound and retrieving Lottie, which indirectly led to the hunt and Natalie's death. Van now feels guilt from this event, but got herself there in the first place. This point connects to the next one, as the card also represents being trapped in cycles/patterns of your own making and karma. We all know that Van was a former (and kinda still is) a believer of the Wilderness religion, and we all know that she was riddled with guilt after she rigged the cards and yet again, indirectly leading to the death of Mari. Would it be a stretch to say this is karma? Would Van believe it's karma? One of her friends being killed again because she is so desperate to connect to the Wilderness or at least find some reason as to why she was spared from death so often.

Tai

Tai pulls three cards, the 8 of Hearts card, the 9 of Hearts card and the 7of Spades. First of all, according to my research, the 8 of Hearts card symbolises profound love and lasting bonds, which I would say is about Taivan, and the fact they got back together after 25 years during season 2. Even after all that time, they're love for each other never wavered. This card also represents being truly seen, which I would also say is about Taivan. Van has always every part of Tai, including her other self, even when Tai didn't want to love or acknowledge her other self. Van makes Tai feel truly seen, something Tai has unfortunately not felt in a long time. It represents long-term relationships, which Taivan probably would have had if they had more time :( This card also tells its seeker that they're at an important moment and that they may have to walk away from something that no longer serves them good. I would say this applies to Tai and her role in the hunts. She never truly believed in the Wilderness, and she only ever hunted for survival. They don't need to hunt 25 years after being rescued, but they still are. Maybe this is saying that Tai believes they shouldn't hunt anymore. Next, the 9 of Hearts card tells its seeker that they're hopes are within reach. Considering the fact that Tai has been seeing signs of Van since the season 1 adult timeline, I think this is alluding to her desire for Van. This card symbolises contentment and joy, which is what Tai feels now she is back with Van. Lastly, the 7 of Spades card tells it seeker the truth is in front of them. Now what this is in this situation can differ. Shauna says "You no there is no it right? It was just us!". Does Tai agree with this sentiment? Or does she agree with the opinion that something was out there with them? What is the truth to her in this moment? And does this truth make her happy or sad?

Misty

Misty pulls the 6 of Hearts and the Jack of Spades. According to my research, the 6 of Hearts represents looking back to move forward, and is the card of nostalgia and harmony. This most definitely applies to Mistynat's bond. As we see in season 3, Misty does not take Nat's death well, but perhaps she has to look back on the situation and come to the conclusion that Nat would've not survived yet another person dying in her place, and maybe come to peace with that. The card tells it's seeker that whatever they're going through, that peace is awaiting them. This card is also called the card of cupid, since it represents hearts back together. Whether you believe in platonic or romantic Mistynat I think we can all accept the fact that they had reconciled and were better for it. The Jack of Spades card tells its seeker to sharpen their instincts. This could be slight foreshadowing as Misty was prepared for any situation, as proven when she accidentally doses Natalie. It tells its seeker that they're smart enough to see through any situation. This card means that sharp intelligence that demands careful navigation. I would say this describes Misty perfectly. She has a sharp intelligence and usually always navigates situations carefully. The adult hunt may be one of the only times Misty's plans have gone horribly wrong. The card also tells its seeker that they need a reality check, and to revaluate their intelligence. Natalie's death is a reality check for Misty in more ways than one. She needs to be less reckless and she needs to stand up for herself. It sort of foreshadows Misty's character arc in season 3.

Natalie

Natalie pulls the Jack of Diamonds card, the 4 of Diamonds card and the 2 Spades card. First of all, according to my research, the Jack of Diamonds represents a restless energy that demands action. It also symbolises opportunity, ambition and potential. Natalie has the potential to right her wrongs and sacrifice her life for someone else, just like she made Javi sacrifice his for hers. The opportunity in question rose when Misty went to kill Lisa and instead stood in. The card also represents someone younger entering the seekers situation, that person being Lisa in this case, possibly foreshadowing her involvement in her death. Next, the 4 of Diamonds card tells the seeker their hard work as become tangible, in this case all her guilt and pain finally ending and also saving somebody. All those years of suffering now being relieved after she did for someone what Javi did for her. Lastly, the 2 of Spades is the card of difficult choices. It tells it's seeker to trust their instincts, and that a decision as to be made. Natalie had come to the painful conclusion that she has to die in Lisa's place, she can no longer just be a bystander, no matter the consequences that come with that. It was a difficult, but ultimately the right, choice.

Lottie

Lottie pulls the Jack of Clubs. According to my research this is the most energetic card and the embodiment of ambition, intellectual curiosity, and loyal friendship. I would say this is very Lottie Matthews. She has always been loyal to her teammates, is full of intellectual curiosity and always ambitious. She never stops for anything, especially when she is fighting for something she believes strongly in. This card tells its seeker that they have visionary energy that needs grounding. This fits in suspiciously well. Lottie is a visionary, and sometimes she does need someone to bring her back to reality, although during the hunt the only person who tries to is Shauna (ButcherQueen crumbs). This card also tells its seeker that they have enormous potential but that they tend to be distracted by the little things. Lottie could've done so much more if more people listened to and tried to understand her instead of institutionalising her and subjecting her to to electroshock therapy. She does tend to get caught up in small details, even to others dismay. For example, she's adamant that Javi is still alive in the Wilderness because "something doesn't feel right", even when that makes Travis' healing process harder. Even in the adult timeline, she calls for another hunt yet again because something "doesn't feel right", which eventually leads to Natalie's death.

Shauna

Shauna pulls the 9 of Spades card and the Queen of Hearts card. First of all, according to my research, the 9 of Spades is the most feared card, which ties into the fact that Lottie says to Callie that "we all feared your mom", when being asked about Shauna out in the Wilderness. Shauna could easily be argued as being the scariest Yellowjacket, and this backs that up. This card also tells its seeker that they're at the end of a cycle. This is probably referring to this being the last time their time in the Wilderness is recreated, and may be referring to Shauna's end (which will, more likely than not, be happening in season 4). Considering the fact that this card also symbolises endings and loss, it could be talking about Natalie's death, or more farther in the future Shauna's death. This could also tie into the fact that Shauna pulled the Queen of Hearts card. I talked more at length about the Queen of Hearts card in general and it's connection to the Wilderness in my last post, so I'll mostly talk about it's connection to Shauna in this one. The Queen of Hearts card symbolises maternal presence and emotional maturity. Considering the fact that Shauna's character so strongly revolves around her motherhood, I would say this fits. This card also represents a wise woman who leads with her heart but has learned from experience how to protect it. If you minus the wise, I woujld sahy this is Shauna. She constantly makes rash decisions with her heart and the closes off from people to prevent herself from being hurt again. One big example of this is her entire teen self's personality in season 3, and adult self during the whole show, or how she refuses to have a relationship with Callie to prevent herself from being hurt if the situation arises where she suddenly dies.

I was always curious about if the cards the Yellowjackets pulled had any meaning, or if they're just random, and I think they have been picked on purpose to convey a message with each Yellowjackets character. I first noticed this when I realised that during the first hunt in Season 2, that Javi picked the King of Spades, as opposed to Natalie's Queen of Hearts, and he ended up dying in her place. That then sent me down a rabbit hole of cartomancy research and I think most of the card meanings can be applied to the characters arcs or personalities. I think I'll make this a series and post one for each event that includes card pulling(I think there's 3 or 4 overall). Also Natalie and Travis don’t have GIFs because I greatly underestimated the size of the them (that I made, for the first time, btw!). I hope you guys enjoy!
