so I've seen some of your posts on FE4, so I wonder... how come you don't tag it with the fe4 or fire emblem tag?
I guess I could have tagged some of my recent asks like the Finn one but I confess I was shy or cowardly about getting flack if it got out of my orbit. besides that I guess some of them are just so specific that I feel like they're not of interest to the general public, so I don't tag them as fe4
Yo Ao3's default setting now is to not allow non-Archive users comments even if your fanfictions are public, JSYK! Users who publish publically and don't mind Anonymous comments will now need to change the settings manually per story.
Thanks but I don't really mind
Would you say Sigurd is a good person, or is it more complicated?
I don't really like the question of whether he's "good" because it's very simplistic to say that someone is good or bad. People are created good anyway, and anyone can choose to do good or bad no matter what their reputation is. I've already written about Sigurd as a character here and here before, so I'll try not to repeat that.
For me, I see two ways that the question can be approached. Firstly, does Sigurd attempt to be virtuous? - I'd say yes. "Good motivations" can unfortunately be used to justify evil (as perhaps in the case of Arvis), but Sigurd is "chivalrous" like a typical FE protagonist. He doesn't kill civilians, he fights unjust rulers like Chagall and Lewyn's uncles, and he even tries to work against corruption by his own country in their occupation of Agustria. Secondly, does Sigurd do good actions? - Kind of, maybe. He gets maligned for marrying Deirdre despite the warnings of the elders, but if anything he gave her agency by allowing her to leave the village she was confined to and live out her life with him. He did unwittingly become an agent of Grannvalian conquest, and his work unfortunately laid the groundwork for what was essentially colonization of Verdane and Agustria. In Silesse, I guess he did help with resolving the civil war which perhaps helped Silesse to remain at least partially free in that it survived as a rump state between Gen 1 and Gen 2. So, I guess he's 50/50 there.
you said it would be unfair to take jean in a fistfight but art thou certain thou can'st bring about the dirge of defeat over the doorstep of the poor victorian rural boy, sir mcnoodlearms
Thou art right, I simply wouldn't fight Jean if I had to because I would not beat up a child

pick a FE character to spar/duel. one swordfight, one lancefight, one axefight, one fistfight.
I think I would die if I had to do any of these unless I did a wildly unfair fight (e.g. trying to fistfight Jean), but I guess if I had to go on a coolness factor and the amicability factor, I'd pretend swordfight with Seliph, I'd pretend lancefight with Finn, axefight with Minerva, fistfight with Oifey. Pretend so I don't die
Do you think Finn shares some uh.... interesting view on Thracians like Quan did?
Quan died when Leif was a baby, where do you think Leif learned such a slanted viewpoint of Southern Thracia? Yes, I'm very certain that Finn had prejudiced views against Thracians. It was just baked into the culture of Leonster. The only way one could really get out of it is probably if one met Thracians directly in a non-hostile environment and got to know them. Now, Finn wouldn't outright compare Thracians to animals - he's just too polite and softspoken for that - but I'm sure he did have some prejudice against them and that he passed on those views to Leif and the other children he raised. Generally discussions and fanworks don't touch on the negative points of Finn as a character. I try to do so when it's appropriate, and I would count this as one of his negatives where he's not a complete saint that is perfect in every way.
Perhaps Finn would have changed his views after meeting Altena again and getting to know Thracia, but that would not happen until at the earliest during FE4 part 2.
alright then, what about gen 2? ships are up to you!
Let's keep this simple and have it be Seliph/Muirne, Leif/Nanna, and Ares/Lene (though I do like Ced/Altena as well).
Seliph would probably say outright that he misses Muirne and he'd glomp her in a hug when he gets home (or she gets home). Leif would get worried about Nanna and want to be with her. Ares would be more on edge and have a shorter temper without Lene.
Ares would try to do something special for Lene like doing a chore he doesn't like (washing the dishes) or gifting her something, but it would be difficult for him to say sorry. (Still, she's one of the only people he ever apologizes to.) Leif would beg for forgiveness from Nanna on his knees which makes her laugh. Seliph would make sure to take Muirne aside to say sorry and try to spend quality time with her.
What would the first gen trio do when they yearn for their partners (ships up to you!)
What would the first gen trio do when they have to apologize to their partners
I'm assuming you mean Sigurd, Quan, and Eldigan, in which case I will pair them with their canon partners (Deirdre, Ethlyn, and Grahnye).
When Sigurd is away from Deirdre, everyone in the army knows because he talks about it a lot. Eldigan on the other hand tries to keep a straight face about being away from Grahnye, but inside he feels very disquieted. As for Quan, he simply tries to pretend to talk to Ethlyn in his head even though she's not there.
Sometimes Sigurd does something dumb for which he has to apologize to Deirdre. Deirdre usually doesn't get upset, but when she does, it's very intense. Then Sigurd really tries to make a big a scene as possible and even promises to do the chores for a day. When Eldigan apologizes, he sits down with Grahnye privately and gives her heartfelt words, because what she wants most is quality time with him. And as for Quan, when he has to apologize to Ethlyn, he tries to do something silly to make her laugh...
any modern hcs with FE4's gen 2 with cars? for example sety loves sports cars for the speed even though it doesn't show on the outside.
Pretty sure I've talked about this at least with @louvay and probably some others so I hope I don't accidentally steal anyone's ideas
Seliph - probably drives a functional sedan like a Honda or a Toyota
Leif - is into muscle cars (really pony cars) but doesn't know how to take care of them at first
Ares - I think I've seen the muscle car headcanon before so to avoid encroaching on that one, let's say that he is into pickups and knows how to take care of them
Fee - I know this isn't about cars but she's into drones and likes annoying people with them
Nanna - likes SUVs just like her mother
and that's all I have the headspace for today :)

You ever had any ideas for fic, but just didn't feel like starting? I had one regarding Azelle. I didn't realize that the dialog between Sigurd and Arvis would change if he dead. Had this idea of Lex leaving as well, etc. I kinda just didn't know what to do.
There's plenty of ideas for fics that never make it to paper. Right now I'm daydreaming about Lapis and Alcryst (in the universe where Holly exists) but I'm probably never going to put any of it to paper, or at the very least very little of it. I have a years-old text file of ideas that will probably never make it to paper like an AU where the Genealogy kids are in the Gilded Age of America or a canon divergence where Lachesis becomes the regent of Agustria after Eldigan's death. I simply have to accept that I won't have the time or energy to write every idea I have in my life.
And even then, there are some ideas that have been partially written but languish for months or never even get completed. For example, I have a fic I started where Seliph learns about his different family members, but sadly I haven't really worked on it for various reasons. So, part of it I guess is accepting that I won't get to publish anything, but I still feel sad.
CHARACTER ASK GAME !!
GIVE ME QUAN
1. Why do you like or dislike this character?
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?
4. What's something you have in common with this character?
5. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
6. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?
7. Could you be roommates with this character?
8. Would you date this character?
I guess I like Quan because he's from Leonster. And he's brave. Honestly I can probably tell you the least about him of any of the Leonster family people
He goes out of his way to talk to Ayra and figure out what's going on. Even if he jumps to assumptions, at least he tries to get to the bottom of why Isaach "attacked" Dahna
That he keeps calling other ethnic groups "hyenas" and "barbarians"
Very little but I can imagine him liking footy and I guess I sometimes watch it
Make art of him with Ethlyn
Treat him as a villain like if he eats Thracian babies for breakfast. His prejudice towards Thracia should absolutely be examined, but not played up to a cartoonish degree
Probably not because I would prefer someone more reserved
I prefer not to answer this question
Any crackships for Judgral? Zane x Bleg is peak fiction.
I guess Dithorba and Cuvuli but that's probably not what you were looking for
If Altena was never taken in by Travant, would she have become a Duke Knight like her father or a baron esque class like what other nobles of North Thracia would have been?
I find it unlikely as it is that Leonster, a nation whose army is led by an elite squadron of lance-wielding horsemen, would be led by a baron as it is. With Altena at the helm, the chances are even smaller because I see Altena as being attached to her father. She would probably pretend to ride a horse as play from her toddler years. So, Altena would definitely choose to be a Duke Knight, even if it is almost unheard of for women to be Duke Knights. After all, I'm sure that Njorun herself was one.
In your opinion, what is/are the most prevalent problem/s in the Fire Emblem fandom and what do you think fans can do to improve?
I realize you might have been the anon who sent the "are you doing ok" ask, and for that I apologize for not responding. I'm not going to respond to every ask I get and I seriously considered not responding to this ask for various reasons (not to mention I was very busy when you sent it), but I think I might as well answer it.
I can't really say there is a single "most prevalent problem" in the fandom, but one problem I do feel seriously does exist is the latent sexism. I don't have much room to discuss this since I am a male, but I have felt that it's been a problem for the entire time (6+ years) that I've participated online in this community. Most of the time it's more subtle than open misogyny, but you see it in the hatred expressed towards female characters which their male counterparts do not get. Obviously there's controversial female leads like Edelgard or Celica that experience this, but you also see this the crazy amounts of criticism that Ethlyn or Deirdre get as characters. Another element is the sexualization of female characters. Obviously this is promoted by the games (though some people will try to claim that males are objectified just as much as females, which isn't quite true). You see a lot of this in the type of commissions people get of characters, the way some characters are drawn in revealing outfits that go way beyond what is in the games or how their body is changed to accentuate certain elements. Also, some people in the comments are just shameless for no better word. It personally disgusts me in particular to see people use "mommy" as a descriptor for characters whom they perceive to be attractive. Sadly, if you bring up these points you are almost sure to be labeled a "puritan" or something like that no matter how much nuances you include.
I admit this post probably makes generalizations in of itself and I apologize if someone feels singled out. It's a short Tumblr post, so it doesn't really include much nuances. But that's the best I can say to you.

What do you think would change if Finn was one of Eldigans retainers? Only asking since I recently found out that Grahnye is from Leonster.
So, based off of you mentioning Grahnye, let's assume that the entire reason that Finn is Eldigan's retainer is that Calf sent him along with Grahnye to Agustria. Because I'm smallbrained, I'm going to say that Finn runs into Lachesis and develops a relationship with her that eventually turns romantic, but that's not really important here.
Finn for some reason has a laser-focused devotion to his country. In this timeline, he would be hyperdevoted to Eldigan and Eldigan's family. When Eldigan sends Grahnye and Ares off to Leonster, Finn goes with them. That means that Finn ends up being Ares' retainer through the interwar period and not Leif's. This has massive ramifications, as one would imagine. Ares doesn't fall into the hands of Javarro and turn into a swordfighter at Dahna. Instead, Finn takes him on the run around Southern Thracia. This also means that Ares doesn't really meet Lene until they're both in Seliph's army, so they don't really have a relationship. But for plot reasons, let's just say that Lene ends up in Seliph's army somehow anyways, and this time it's Seliph that saves her (after hearing of her predicament from Laylea) and not Ares.
Now, what of Leif? Leif is still left in Leonster when his parents go on their ill-fated rendezvous attempt with Sigurd. Glade is the one that ends up taking charge of Leif, not Finn, but Glade (and Selphina) still end up leaving Leonster alongside Lachesis and Nanna (who isn't Finn's). Because I feel like increasing the hurt for Finn, let's say that he and Ares run into Lachesis in Fiana. He realizes the feelings he has for her, and she realizes that she has something for him, but they never make a move because the time is never quite right even though Lachesis' spouse is presumably dead. It's sad because Finn realizes that he would have been an awesome uncle to Ares, and maybe one day he cries when he realized that he let that possibility slip through his fingers. But anyways, Lachesis still ends up trying to cross the desert for Diarmuid and failing, leaving her nephew behind with Finn.
This is all cutting out some possible plot changes for the sake of keeping things simple, such as the idea that Finn is one of the knights guarding Lachesis instead of the triplets, or that Leif ends up getting taken to Aed since Finn isn't there at Leonster to take care of him, or Lene ends up not getting recruited due to Ares not being there, etc.
Hey, I hope you're alright!
Not sure who asked this so the best I can say is thanks for asking? Don't worry, I'm still around
