I don’t draw faces schematically, as they teach you in academic drawing. I have a collection of reference images showing faces from different angles; if I need to, I find additional ones – sometimes focusing on specific parts such as the nose, mouth and so on. I draw using these references as a basis, and then adjust the sketch however I like – changing the eyebrows, adding length to the nose or a bridge, making the mouth smaller or larger, and so on
