hm... i think mack will get the C this year and he will have As as vets so they can mentor him and help him... im guessing wenny for sure and either toff or one of the new vets based on the locker room vibes?

i dont think will would have gotten an A in the near future either way cause when willmack is together they are like two giggly puppies and you cant do that when youre the C... like can you imagine captain mack and assistant captain will sitting at a press conference laughing their asses of (like during the anthem last season) cause somebody said a funny word or because one of their inside jokes came up 2 minutes before they had to start talking lol... mack needs responsible adults around him so he can be eased into this role cause it will be a lot at first i think

however in 3-4 years (and by that time most of the vets contracts will be over and the now young core will probably be nearing their prime) i could totally see willmack being C and A... i want that so much. by that time i think they will have more experinece in how to behave like adults and nhl stars lmao

Do some feel overpaid? Yes, yes they do.

But how I’m viewing it is all the deals are for the same length of time - 3-4 years which is when a lot of the younger players will fall off the ELCs. Like the anon before said, Willmack’s contract kicks in 27-28, Samisa after that, and all the drafts from this year will either end in 3 years or 4 if they go back for another year to college or to the league they played in prior to draft for another year - like Ryan has committed to another year at DU instead of signing a contract this year. This way, they pay ELCs while having them work with veterans for the experience and the sharks not sacrificing potential play off chances while waiting for the rookies to adapt/improve in the NHL setting. And with the cap space increasing, they feel they have the room for it, and who knows what trades may happen next year, year after, etc.

I like to think Mike knows what he’s doing… I could be wrong. But we all just need to see how this plays out in the next season, and if those signings were smart choice or a mistake.

I will forever miss the 25-26 sharks roster though 😔

you know i think the exact same thing... i mean people usually like to overreact on x so i usually go there for updates not opinions lmao (this is why im asking it here people are much rational here and a lot of them has been watching nhl for a long time)

but yes even if the new contracts are all overpays... with the cap space constantly increasing i dont think you can do too much about it... these amounts even might not be considered "overpays" in 1-2 years

and yes i like to think mg (mostly) knows what hes doing too hes there for a reason after all ive also noticed all the vets contracts will mostly expire around the time the newly drafted guys will need new contracts and i dont think thats an accident 😅

i also have to say they were in desperate need of defence because lot of them didnt want to resign so they had to do something about it they couldnt just put 20 year old dickie and 18 year old keaton and ryan in the first pairs against lines with mcdavid and stuff.... so maybe this was still their best option for now also i do think they want to make the playoffs this next season even though they will probably be washed in the first round... but as i said in an other ask the young core still needs playoff hockey experience (especially mack who will be carrying the team will (who will be his right hand im sure) mis dickie stenny graffer who will also be key figures in the next couple of years playoff runs)
