“The cover illustration [of the 100th chapter] shows all the master/butler pairs, who made an appearance [in the manga] so far, dancing in the Empress Ballroom (a historical ballroom in Blackpool, England). I always wanted to draw this, so I’m happy now♡
[Since this is a ballroom dance] I had to draw the male/male dancing couples like male/female ones, but watching the Macana Brothers (a professional dancing couple of two men) dancing changed my mind and I now think the male/male dance is as cool as the male/female one!
While I was drawing this, I imagined that each couple are dancing a different genre:
Red butler couple [Grell/Madam Red]: tango
Yellow butler couple [Agni/Soma]: cha-cha
Green butler couple [Wolfram/Sieglinde]: Waltz
Black butler couple [Sebastian/Ciel]: Viennese Waltz (you know it’s the dance with the couple turning round and round and round….).
I originally imagined Argentine tango for the ‘black butler couple’ because this dance looks like as if the couple is fighting and I thought it would match them [Sebastian and Ciel] best. I drew some sketches while watching some clips [of Argentine tango], but I gave up on this idea, since Ciel’s legs [*his height compared to Sebastian] were too short and they didn’t look cool together at all (lol)
Today’s illustration gives you a peek of Grell’s shoes which you didn’t get to see in the cover version because they were covered [by Ciel’s costume]. Grell and Madam Red are a male/female couple and Grell is the lead of course, but emotionally speaking, they are a female/female couple. It was fun to draw their different shoe sizes.”
