So this is about the green sun. And yes, the green sun IS incredibly bright. But I have to point out that none of the other humans or trolls were acting like this. This is textbook sensory overload symptoms, and it's pretty fair to say that Karkat is experiencing a meltdown here
Another symptom of autism is having "special interests". A special interest can mean a lot of things for somebody with autism, but we're typically very invested in them to the point where others might find us a bit off-putting because of how much we ramble about them. Karkat's special interest appears to be troll romance. Now, he's mostly just being mean to Vriska here (shame on him), but it's worth noting that he seems genuinely excited while talking about it. "THIS IS FASCINATING, TELL ME HOW THE FUCK THIS ISN'T FASCINATING."
Terezi describing Karkat (and Dave) as "really blunt and literal-minded" is another piece of evidence. This is a very common way for some people on the autism spectrum to be described. Literal thinking. Have you ever not been able to understand a joke because you missed the forest for the trees? Have you ever thought the phrase "missing the forest for the trees" was nonsensical, I mean, the forest is made of trees! Yeah, anyway, that's literal thinking. It's also a symptom, and a pretty well-known one at that.
Actually, Karkat's whole typing quirk could also be a piece of evidence. Volume control is a social cue that a lot of autistic people struggle with, and sometimes it seems like that's kind of just how he talks, like he can't really help it.
I know Karkat's repeated meltdowns, or "Vantrums" are a well-known thing in the Homestuck fandom, but you kind of have to think about it when discussing something like this. It is entirely possible that these are caused at least somewhat by overstimulation. Not every autistic meltdown involves crying, (though karkat does that too) a lot of them involve being an asshole to everyone in your immediate vicinity. And like, Alternia is not the place to go if you want accommodation for sensory issues, so it makes sense that these meltdowns are so frequent.
I think it's about time we talk about the moment in Homestuck that a lot of people might think about first when they hear "Karkat" and "autism"
This was, as most things are, an asshole thing for Karkat to say. And it might be the thing that a lot of people use to deny the Karkat autism reading, but I really do think this proves my point. Karkat hates people or qualities in people that reflect himself. I mean, this is pretty common knowledge. He hates himself so much that he has had multiple conversations with himself about how much he hates himself. He hates Dave partially because of the number of similarities between them. He complained to Kanaya about how stubborn and occasionally angry Jade can be, and the whole time Kanaya was just like "..." because she was probably thinking "Oh Wow Stubborn And Angry That Reminds Me Of Someone I Know." Karkat is the projection master, it's him. His calling Nepeta autistic as an insult? Was really just a drop in the. hm. A drop in the tub, sure, let's go with that, of Karkat projecting his insecurities onto others and then hating them for it.
In conclusion, Karkat autism
