@sittaeuropaea’s Little Owl skull, from a bird we had come into rehab with a bad eye. Sadly the bird didn’t make it, but it wasn’t until Adam cleaned the skull up that this injury was revealed - a massive thorn imbedded into the skull, right between the eyes. Being a thorn it didn’t show up on X-ray, and nobody would have known about this otherwise. Pretty amazing this bird lived so long with this inside his head! Must have flown pretty hard into a bush.

Happy birthday to one of my best friends, @sittaeuropaea - a great person, and a very talented vulture. These little blue birds have become very special to me, they remind me of you, and whenever I see one it cheers me up. It’s a sign of good things and friendship to me. I will stand in the kitchen sometimes and just wait for one to appear at the feeder, and it almost feels like I am with my friends. Thank you for always being there and being so awesome, friendle, I hope you have had a truly fantastic day and you like your presents and your pizza.

Bought a bunch of skulls in to work today, will be cleaning some up for the education centre here soon! I love talking about bones and showing them to people who are interested. It’s lovely to see people’s reactions and when they get to touch and handle something they don’t usually have access to.

Think this guy has to be my favourite skull.
