Playing FFVI again, and this will be a bit of a ramble since I had more time to play today. Anyway, time for Phoenix Cave part 2!
... Tried to pet the red dragon, it didn't go so well 😭
IN MY DEFENSE it looks SO cute wandering around the map!! Like a little dragon baby 🥺 I didn't know it would turn out to be a big super scary boss-like dragon!
I didn't expect Rachel to actually get back to life! If even for a moment. I'm glad she got to say what she'd wanted to, and hopefully Locke will be able to get some peace from the fact that he has done everything he possibly could have to save her.
Also, it was a lovely cutscene! I loved how they used all the effects and layering to show what happened even with as limited as the number of pixels are.
Also also, now that I'm back in Kohlingen, I talked to one of the old ladies again, and this time I (think I) know what to do with the hint she gave me. Guess I'll have to keep an eye out for an "Itchy Gecky"!
Found Master Duncan! He survived the apocalypse, which is neat... Though I've spent this entire time under the impression he was dead even before that happened 😅
I must remember wrong, but I thought we'd fought (and defeated/possibly killed??) his son, because said son had killed his father for prioritizing Sabin over him?
Oh well. At least Sabin got even more new moves! And I probably don't have to worry about that coughing of Duncan's at all, right? Last time an older (grand)father figure started coughing and told me it was nothing to worry about, everything went *just fine*. Ha hah... Hah.😬
........ I did not expect the Zone Beast to do anything but kill me 😂 Surprise dungeon!
With surprise guest star Gogo??
There are sooooo many characters in this game oh my god. And I still haven't picked up everyone I had from before the time skip!
Also, so many of these characters are based on copying enemy skills?? Gau collects the skills to use when he wants, Relm copies the enemy directly mid-battle, her grandfather (whose name escapes me, apologies) is a blue mage that collects enemy magic, and now Gogo is a mimic.
Speaking of Relm's grandfather... I just found out where he's been this past year, apparently. Selling his soul to Kefka, huh.
So proud to have managed to beat the holy dragon (that I didn't mean to fight at all)! Even if it only worked because I had Celes and Terra with reflect rings on and it did nothing but Holy magic. Never thought I'd end up using rasp quite this much 😂
More concerning was the "Seven dragons left" that popped up after I beat it. Guess who'd completely forgotten about those...!
This is more stairs than the Shinra building, how did they manage to get it all done in one year??
Okay so. Master of magic or whatever. That guy does a rather fine job of kicking his own ass, I just need to stand there looking pretty and reflectable, so it all turned into a "What can I do to survive that final Ultima spell". Turns out I don't have what it takes yet to tank that 😔
Now I just have to do the whole tower sans Kefka's treasure... Again... *Sigh*. The things one does for treasure.
Went for a visit to Veldt, to see if Gau might pop up, then went into the cave only to see Interceptor?? First thought is of course Shadow, but... Shadow wasn't the one that had Interceptor before the Floating Continent, was it? ... This is exciting 👀
Thanks, conveniently placed bandits(?), for giving me tips on how to catch Gau again
I just got a ring that wants to be equipped by a yeti. Does this mean I'll find even MORE characters?? The airship is gonna be so cramped
What do you know, an Ichigeki...! I know where I'll be taking this!
A SHADOW!! SHADOW PANCAKE AHEAD!! Wait why is there a save point is there going to be a boss battle?
SHADOW LORE! ... Daughter???
Aaaaaand Shadow's gone again. Whelp. Time to pick up the wild child before once again heading to the Coliseum!
... Which will have to be next time. As well as backtracking to the Phoenix cave to get a chest I missed + fight the dragon. Oh, and going back to Narshe for Ramuh. And apparently the weapons dealer wants to speak with me? According to the guy I paid off 100 000 gil for a treasure tip. Not sure if it's valid after reloading, though 🤔
