It’s always really exciting to start writing a new fic, obviously, since you’re still young and naive and full of fresh ideas. After spending some time writing original work, I realized that writing fiction is a lot of work for little reward. It’s tough to get things published, and it’s tough to market yourself and build up readership and get any sort of recognition for all that hard work. Writing fan fiction, by contrast, is relatively simple. The only thing you have to worry about is the actual writing, and then you can post it online and inevitably you’ll get readers. It’s so amazing to see reviews of what I’ve written, even though we’re only two chapters in. 

Philosophy is a strong word, but let me tell you about why I started writing this fic and why the concept still resonates with me years later. 

It was inspired by a Marvel frostiron fic where one character is cursed with a love spell to fall in love with another character. They start a relationship, there’s smut, and then the spell is reversed and viola! They’re still in love. (It’s a great fic. I’ve read it multiple times. If I ever remember the name of it I’ll link it here.)

The concept would not leave my mind. I loved the fic, yes, but I couldn’t get over the feeling that being cursed into loving someone shouldn’t be the start of a romance, it should be the start of a horror fic. Imagine how awful it would be to be forced into loving someone desperately, with all your heart, someone who doesn’t love you back and maybe even hates you. It honestly seems like a great way to torture someone.

That’s what happens in TINALS. It’s in the title: This is NOT a Love Story. I won’t lie, the temptation was very strong to make it into a love story because I’m a complete sucker for that kind of thing. But that would go against the very ethos of this fic, so I won’t. (Of course, I may end up writing multiple versions, where maybe there is romance, but that’s the beauty of fan fiction.) 

It’s been five months since my last post, so time for another blog reboot! I’ve decided to make this blog a catch-all writing website to keep track of my work across the spectrum of what I write about. Until now I’ve wanted to keep my fanfic separate from everything else, but... what is life without a little risk? 

Most of what I write is fan fiction or D&D related, but I do write original stuff occasionally (almost nothing that’s actually been published, although that will change going forward). If I actually put my game ideas into action I’ll post that here as well.

I was having a hell of a hard time getting any sort of reasonable speed sticky skating (all I could do was figure 8s/bubbles), and looking back the problem was that I wasn’t understand how to use edges properly. This is also why I had so much trouble stopping, I think. 

Winter is salt on the streets, sparkling like tiny stars

-a puzzle box that changes the pieces as you try to solve it

-a leash for fish (size small and smaller)

-Jar of Keeping Bugs Alive

-Glasses of improved vision but only for objects exactly 10 ft away

-Magic moth balls that work the same as regular moth balls except slightly better

-razor blades that always leave you with a thin goatee no matter how carefully you shave
