“I dare to be stupid!”
Oh so that's where the "Joker... Gay?" panel is from
Flash #53 (1991)
I just had to draw my own version of this picture. It was just so good. The original is by Livejournal user Hermine-ichigo and it was posted on the piper-trickster community on LJ in January 2008. I don't know if it's okay to draw fanart of fanart, so I'm sorry if it's not cool, but I just really loved this picture. It's just so 2008 it filled my heart with joy <3 I drew their Bronze Age versions, because I like them the best <3
How come nobody kins anymore? What's up with that. That was fun

First meetings
man i never got into the whole shipping scene but back in the day if you saw a ship you didn't like you just blocked things relating to it and ignored it and moved on. i've been in fandom spaces for so long and seen wildass stuff and just learned to tune it out, like i doubt somebody shipping incest actually supports it irl but i always found it odd so i just blocked that kind of stuff.
now everybody is forcing people into labels and attacking each other. both sides do this. it's aggravating as hell.
Truth tbh I block people for having South Park icons. I curate my experience how I want to. If I don't like someone's posts they're in the shadow realm
sin, first impressions on fem mad hatter from the caped crusader? do you have any opinions on that show?
I haven't watched a lick of the show yet, I've heard it's rather good. From what I see, mad hatter is based more on the Adam West villain era, which makes sense given the vibe of the show. My opinion is neutral, not because she's a woman or anything but because I haven't seen anything yet.
I'm stupid I thought proshipping mean't for or in favor of shipping like how the pro in prochoice is for choice. So I was confused what you mean't in your last post at first by you not being a proshipper lol. I still don't get the ship discourse thing ngl.
It used to mean that back in the days of deviantart old and it was indeed a stance I had, but nowadays it unfortunately gets lumped together with "you can post any content you want including incest and pedophilia!! Its all fictional so it doesn't matter!!" and im not interested in dancing around in that crowd anymore because of that. Hence why I put quotations around the word. Im pro-shipping but I don't identify with the term because I think all sides of shipping discourse is exhausting and extreme and I don't want people flocking to my blog expecting me to make that my identity
Look. I used to be a major hardcore "anti" in my teens. And it made me dumb. Like super dumb. It took me a long time to realize this myself, but you can very much draw/write/depict abusive relationships without "shipping" them. In fact, I think it is healthy to draw and write relationships you utterly hate, while also depicting them in a way that others will hate. And doing so absolutely does not mean you condone abusive behaviour. If depicting something in media automatically means endorsing it, then every villain in fiction would be a moral recommendation. Every horror movie would be an argument in favor of murder. Every tragedy film/book would be an endorsement of suffering. We all intuitively understand that this isn't how stories work.
Art is one of the primary ways human beings process things that scare us, upset us, anger us, or fascinate us. Sometimes the point of depicting a relationship is specifically to examine it. Look at Harley Quinn and the Joker. Sometimes the point is to show exactly how manipulation works. Sometimes it's to demonstrate how abuse gradually escalates. Sometimes it's to communicate the feeling of being trapped in a dynamic that looks impossible from the outside, but feels inescapable from within.
Yknow I would actually argue that fiction becomes weaker if we insist that artists should only create relationships they personally approve of. Human experience contains cruelty and exploitation and obsession and dependency and coercion and jealousy and resentment and lcountless other ugly emotions. If art is forbidden from engaging with those things, then art loses one of its most important functions of helping people understand realities they may never have experienced themselves.
Sometimes hatred is a creative motivation in its own right. Sometimes an artist draws a horrible character or relationship because they want the audience to feel uncomfortable. Sometimes they write two characters together because they want to explore how badly those personalities would clash. Sometimes they are dissecting a power imbalance. Sometimes they are constructing a cautionary tale. Sometimes they are examining the psychology of an abuser. Sometimes they are showing how victims rationalize harmful treatment. None of those things require the creator to find the relationship romantic, desirable, or aspirational at all.
Honestly some of the most effective depictions of abuse I've ever seen were created by people who despised the relationship they were writing. You can tell because the narrative choices are structured around exposing the damage being done. The relationship isn't framed as beautiful or as healthy. It isn't framed as something to aspire to either, the entire point is that it hurts people. Just as abuse does.
There's also a strange double standard that appears in these conversations. People generally accept that someone can write a murderer without wanting to commit murder. They accept that someone can write a corrupt politician without supporting corruption. They accept that someone can write a cult leader without wanting to start a cult. Yet somehow when it comes to relationships, people often jump directly from "this relationship exists in the story" to "the author must support it." I don't think that's a useful way to engage with fiction.
A relationship can be narratively important without being morally good. It can be compelling without being healthy. It can be interesting without being admirable. It can be realistic without being aspirational. In many cases, the emotional impact comes specifically from the fact that the relationship is terrible. And beyond that, I think there is genuine value in learning how to portray harmful dynamics accurately. Understanding red flags requires recognizing what red flags look like and understanding manipulation requires seeing how manipulation operates, understanding abuse requires being able to identify abusive behavior when it occurs. Fiction can contribute to that understanding when handled thoughtfully.
Sometimes a toxic relationship is in a story because the author loves it, sometimes a toxic relationship is in a story because the author hates it. And those are not remotely the same thing. The existence of a subject in art tells you almost nothing by itself. What matters is framing and context and how the work treats the behavior, what consequences exist and what emotions it evokes. And also what conclusions it encourages the audience to draw.
Depiction is not endorsement. Exploration is not celebration. Analysis is not advocacy. And I think remembering that distinction would make conversations about fiction a lot more productive.
‼️‼️ This post is NOT about how cranking your hog to lolisho should be normalized. If that's the message you got from it then you're an idiot, no matter your stance on "shipping discourse". I am not a "proshipper" and I never will be. ‼️‼️

in finnish, the '@' symbol is sometimes referred to as 'kissanhnta' [cat's tail] or 'miau', 'miau merkki' [meow marks]. in the pokemon universe, i thought it might be cute if the '@' symbol were called 'the mew' or 'mew symbol'
considering both bill and professor oak would know about mew, i imagined a conversation in which this term was coined in which professor oak tries (and finally succeeds) at sending his first email.
regional dialects make it difficult to share 'mewsernames'!
in swedish, the @ symbol is called 'trunk a' [elephants trunk]
in polish, it's called 'malpa' [monkey]!
@sinistarz
How are your feelings about western pokemon movie and the japanese one?
I grew up with the western, thinking Mew is just a cutie! Look at him playing with the bubbles! Mewtwo there making a whole speech and the mew just existing.
Later I learn that in the japanese movie mew viewed clones as flawed and abominations!
Well the message that all life is valuable and it's up to one to create their purpose is still there.
But boy, was it a shock!
I much prefer the English dub, but I will give Mew the benefit of the doubt here. The PokeClones were created for violence. They never experienced evolution. ZardTwo, VenusTwo and BlasTwo weren't the original Charmander, Bulbasaur and Squirtle clones we see at the beginning, they were all cloned as their final evolution for power and power alone. Which, considering everything, is INCREDIBLY flawed of their creation. And, considering that cloning was a science created by mankind, Mew viewing it as an abomination does make a bit of sense being the ancestor of Pokemon.
I much prefer dub Mew. But I don't think OG Mew is pure evil either giving the circumstances. If someone made a clone of me without my knowledge or consent I'd probably also become the joker about it
