I'm in a "Trust the Process" flow right now as I build out the Domus Aurea area. (Say Domus Aurea Area 5 times fast GO)
For scale I'm thinking of making the domus shorter. I recently found floor plans that show a "completed" version of the section of the Domus Aurea on the Oppian. You can see my picture cuts it off, but it would just be mirrored on that side. I'm thinking I'll just make another optional lot.
I'm still not sure how filled in this world will be, but I think I'm in the 70s in number of lots. I plan to do hotspots, their surrounding area, and a path back to the forum.
Also not doing aesthetics because you can curropt a whole lot if you need to reshape the hill under it. Back to only outlines!
I think I'm at a point of jumping to aesthetics for a while. I have a sim moved in and ready to bring Rome from brick to marble.
Still outlining, still some things to put into place, but I'm liking the workflow I'm starting to figure out.
The Imperial Fora just have a lot of issues in translating to sims, but they're fitting as close as I wanted.
In every sims 3 build I reach a point of needing to restart from scratch. It's not really third time's the charm, but it's just sometimes best to start over with the knowledge you picked up while messing up the first, second, third time.
So here's A rediscovery of this "Ancient Rome's 7 Hills" map.
I thankfully took down the plot details so I could just type in the locations. I did some trickery to get the elevation right on palatine hill.
The shape of the forum has been..... Still fudging things around. Things get wonky right before the Capitoline hill up at the top there.
If you look all the way on the left you'll see the outline for the Circus Maximus plots. That's where my scale is re-anchored. Based on my Circus Maximus I'm around 1/2 scale. That's perfect because from what I've seen, the floor height in real life is about 10 floor equivalent. This makes the game's 5 floor limit workable.
I've officially reached the point that keeping track of all the buildings and their locations requires a second document.
Oh, and Anachronistic (That's the word, right? not looking it up) I'm going to keep the vatican where it is, and on the other extreme of the map will be the baths of Caracalls. This is just about the limit of a sims 3 map.

Sending all my love to abuse survivors, especially rape and sexual assault survivors, as this new wave of just genuine vile disastrous waste that is the new Epstein files hits the public. Sending all my love to those who are watching it turn into a joke. Sending love to all of those who are triggered by anything mentioned in the files that is being widely discussed. Sending love to those who will be triggered by watching waves of evidence be exposed and yet see none of the perpetrators being punished.
You can compare floor plans for yourself. I've seen more layouts that include a small basin or no pool at all in the Caldarium, but I'm going to stick to the big pool for effect.
Taking a dip in the Tepidarium of the Baths of Caracalla.
I've noticed in building this world with barely any walls or roofs that you need a fireplace if you plan on staying in a place, and this lot, having removed baths from home lots, has transformed faster than any other.
Working on the Baths of Caracalla when it got busy. Hate how the ceiling tile things work.
Third and final (because it can't get any bigger) resize of the baths of caracalla. I'll likely put the collanade....stuff on other lots.
Had to take the Ferrari to the Vatican. It was too far on foot.
Really though. Look at that distance. I might keep without the roads to make horses more useful (Like how the fusion stuff killed the purpose of horses in TOTK vs BOTW)

I did the maths and my Circus Maximus is about half the size of the real one, meaning my palatine hill is somewhere around that too. This is good news because the max floors you get in sims 3 is about 5, and in real life, the real Imperial Palace's height would be somewhere around 10 floors. Meaning......I've reached the maxed scale possible for this build....I think.
Baths of Caracalla on bottom left.
Circus Maximus going down the middle
Palatine Hill, containing the Imperial Palace also center, right of Circus Maximus
Colosseum on bottom right
Temple of Venus and Roma in front of the Colosseum.
Vatican in far distance.
This was made by using Affinity to trace real world maps of Rome. Everything, including the hills, are where they should be, the inaccuracies are in my building.
Just testing out the town's placement, and such when I see this. Sims are naturally hanging out at the temple of Venus and Roma. It's cool to see it come to life
Trying to make the forum work. I'l llikely end up with a wider trapezoid that I want, but...the map will still be accurate-ish i guess?
If you put raised parts of the map in the CAW terrain paint, and then export the height map...
Using Affinity to edit the heatmap of the sims 3 world to make the "sunken" parts of the build. I didn't originally plan on doing this, but how I happened to split up the domus allowed exactly for it, so here we are. I'll be shrinking the map around palatine hill because i made it way too large. I may be able to fit all of vatican city in the full outline map.....greeeaaaaaat(Add 3 days of building)

Scaled up the palace, had to scale up the Circus Maximus too
I couldn't even put the Vatican as far as it's supposed to be but he literally almost died running there and back.
