Having so prominent a citizen cut short—own hand or no—in his scenic getaway town is like to put a bug up Mayor Henry’s ass already, but the fact that he actually seemed to like St. James doesn’t do me any favors.  Henry can be a real bulldog, when it comes down to it, and he’s the first person that can make my life a living hell if I don’t get him some answers, and quick.  I can only hope that he’s come around to the obvious conclusion as well: this was murder, plain and simple.

So why kill himself?

The gossip rags’ll tell you he made his bucks off of the tech-boom.  Computer whiz kid, invented some chip or cog or whatsit in his basement and single-handedly revolutionized the industry.  Turned one success into a dozen before backing off the company reigns and letting his Board of Directors take over SimTech.  He’s been here half a dozen years or so, if memory serves.  Bought this huge mansion on the hill without even batting an eye, or so the stories go.

Monte Vista’s a quiet town, mostly.  Catering to jet-setters and tourists, it all but stinks of money.  And St. James was the source of a lot of that stink.

I don’t think anyone buys it.

That’s where I come in.  Sam Sanders, Detective First Grade, and I don’t get woken up for suicides.  

This time, it’s all three, and I’ll be damned if I don’t hate my job on days like this.
