me looking at the UV mesh layout for this bed alcove I want to convert
lmao a $42 tutorial to make CC...
ANYHOO:
Requirements You will need: Sims 4 Studio Photoshop (however you choose to acquire it), or an alternative DDS Plugin (unless you choose to save files as PNGs) Blender (any version between 2.76 and 4.3 - I use 3.3) The Basics
Recolours and Textures
The easiest thing to start with is a recolour. If you have some knowledge of photo editing software, this should be fairly straightforward, but if you’re new to it, the following tutorial covers it well: Recolouring Tutorial - Softpine
If you’re feeling confident with your recolours, but want to add a little extra to your textures, it’s worth checking out specular and normal files.
Speculars are my favourite thing for elevating CC (by that I mean covering it in glitter and sequins). This tutorial covers the basics:
Speculars - Teanmoon
Normal maps (bumpmaps) are a little different. They can give a 3d texture to an item without altering the mesh (within reason). Teanmoon also has a tutorial on that:
The Bump Map - Teanmoon
If you’re feeling extra (I know I often do), you can use emission maps to make your item glow and/or flash/twinkle.
Get to know emission the map - S4S
Meshing
Meshing is a little more complicated (or perhaps not, depending on what your strengths are. I recommend starting with the Blender Donut Tutorial (pick the one that matches your Blender version) to familiarise yourself with Blender. I didn’t do this. I went in raw from using Milkshape for over a decade (don’t start me on Milkshape lol) I would have learned faster if I did…
Once you’ve navigated the majestic plate of donuts, you might be ready for a touch of frankenmeshing! This tutorial covers the basics really well, as well as a touch of texturing:
How to Make CC Clothing for The Sims 4 - Powluna
@joliebean also has some great tutorials covering some of the more technical details.
Going forward:
So you’re feeling confident and want to mesh from scratch! There are 3980193890381 CC creators and a limited pool of meshes to frankenmesh, so you may want to create something new. Trust me, start with earrings and work your way down from there.
For the alpha girlies:
Start to Finish Marvelous Designer Tutorial by owlplumbob
I'm also happy to answer any questions people might have as they're starting out. I don't know everything, nor am I one of the top-tier CC creating girlies by a long shot, but I'll do what I can and try to sign post if I don't know.
next up in the hit parade, still needs some tweaking but I managed to convert this computer. that uv map/texturing that uv map was a pain in the ASS but I think it turned out alright. ambient occlusion texture doing all the heavy lifting is still gritty but I don't know how to make it not gritty. I'm just wandering through Blender like a bull in a china shop okay
so yeah I've been converting Alien: Isolation items

hey will someone please tell me to NOT dive headfirst into trying to make my own modular CC set because I barely know how Blender works
Doing some recolors with textures yoinked from Alien: Isolation because there is not nearly enough maxis-matchy dingy retrofuturist CC out there for my liking. Featuring a calendar with one swatch whose text I changed to Simlish and one swatch I left as is.
my Lighthouse-inspired build is coming along damn well, if I do say so myself
(mega thanks in particular to @storybookhawke and @secretmage for their conversions)
So I downloaded some default dog eye CC but for some reason it's only applying to one eye and not both. Anyone out there know how to fix this? I'm stumped.
decided to try my hand at building the Elven-style player housing in The Lord of the Rings Online using minimal cc

you got any 70s mods or outfits for your sims? any thoughts on 70s style homes and layouts?
I do not! My OC Elizabeth hails from the 1980s, and the clothing style I envision for her can be best described as “light academia mixed with early grunge, but make it ‘80s style”. So basically Doc Martens and knit sweaters. For some of her other outfits I’ve used photographs of my mother from the early ‘80s for inspiration.
The late 1970s are actually influencing her apartment build in that I’m taking inspo from my memories of my grandparents’ house, which I think was built in the 1970s but definitely furnished by them at some point after 1976 but before 1983. The color palette was overwhelmingly brown, with some yellows and oranges thrown in, and all the wood was dark. I’ve sometimes thought about trying to recreate both it and the house I spent my childhood in, but they were/are both split levels and The Sims isn’t really built for that kind of architecture. 😔
I think I am going to try building a 70s-style camper using some of my recently-acquired CC, though.
spent some time working on the interior of the latest version of Elizabeth's Hideous 1980s Apartment
guess who had to start a complete re-do of their beach RV build thanks to @heybrine's fucking incredible Van Life cc sets?
changed my mind, decided to build the shells myself. probably going to regret it
what the actual fuck is this???

Currently turning Willow Creek and Newcrest into a New York inspired world (or at least trying to💀)
When it comes to Doo Doo, I’m now working on the townies/lore. So, that means more time for personal builds🥳
I'm trying to do a similar thing with the worlds in TS4, instead more of a California/desert type look.
Any advice on how to do that? I’ve got the blowtorch mod but I’m terrified of it 😅
Next on the re-creation carousel: a brownstone in Hamilton Heights for Egon’s Perfectly Acceptable Apartment. Had to flip the layout because the real one made functional bathtub placement impossible. I’m kind of dissatisfied with my frieze and trim options
Edit: Tumblr is being a dick and refusing to upload my screenshot so here’s a picture of a screenshot
