Biography:Â
Silvana, or Silvy to her friends, was born and raised in Chicago. From a young age, she just knew she wanted to be a firefighter. No matter what her parents, teachers, or anyone else told her, she could not be persuaded to consider a different career path. In fact, the more people tried to talk her out of becoming a firefighter, the more determined Silvy became to see this ambition through.
She finished high school and went to Community College to study to become an Emergency Medical Technician. She qualified in two years and by the time she was 21, she was hired to start as an EMT at her first fire house.
Now the real hard work began. She made it really clear to everyone who asked (and even some who hadnât asked) she wasnât going to be satisfied to remain as an EMT and she would be working towards transferring over to being a firefighter. She fought hard for what she wanted, never wavering in the face of her doubters and naysayers.Â
Two years after starting as an EMT, Silvyâs Captain agreed to her transfer to the Engine Company of his firehouse. By the time she reached 29, Silvy was promoted to Lieutenant.
Barely a year into her role as Lieutenant, the virus hit and everything fell apart. Silvy insisted on staying in Chicago, wanting to help survivors escape the clutches of the recently turned zombies. Silvy fought hard but she was overwhelmed by the sheer volume of infected. She was forced to flee Chicago and head away from any densely populated areas.
Silvy stayed with a small group of survivors for the next few years. The group consisted of a couple of Silvyâs fellow firefighters and their families. In the chaos, Silvy had lost contact with her parents and didnât know how to track them down or if they even managed to get out of Chicago.Â
Silvyâs group was beset by raiders. Silvy was the only one of her group to survive the attack. She fled as far and as fast as she could. She came across Redwood and begged for sanctuary with the gated community. She endured the rigorous initiation and was allowed to move in. That was just over a year ago. Since then Silvy has turned her work ethic on helping the community as much as she can. Because she doesnât have anything else now.
