Silver the Hedgehog

Justice: Silver is driven by a strong sense of justice. He is outraged by injustices and is righteous to the point of viciousness(derides the ruined state of his future under Iblis, physically and verbally brutalizes Sonic when he thinks he's the Iblis Trigger), making him very confrontational and willing to take on anyone or anything to fight for what is right. Silver sometimes calls forth great power without mercy(Sonic & Silver), however his wish is to maintain peace, not to eradicate evil. His priority is always protecting others. Seeks to settle scores and win for those that have been wronged(Mario & Sonic 2020, IDW Sonic). Silver has different principles from a typical hero(Sonic Channel) and can be ruthless in his methods(sniping and playing possum against Sonic in 06, mugging Tails in Rivals 2, generally willing to kill enemies). Silver is considerate about what is the right thing to do and can be introspective(06). Silver has an honor code that includes valuing courage, disliking cowardice and maintaining fairness in competitions(Rivals 1/2, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds). Silver’s sense of justice and duty is one of the things that both mirrors and bonds him with Blaze.

Positivity: Silver is an optimist with a positive mindset and philosophy. He has a positive way of life that inspires people and makes them want to support him(Sonic & Silver). Silver is an inspirational figure that embodies hope just as Sonic embodies freedom. Never giving up hope no matter how hopeless the situation as he believes there’s hope as long as you don’t give up(JP Sonic Forces). He was able to help Elise through her performance anxiety and rally everyone to back action in the darkest moments of the Eggman war and Solaris incident. Silver is deeply sentimental and appreciates the little things in life and all forms of peace, prosperity and beauty more than anyone. He has an enchanting smile that filled Elise with trust and a food recipient couldn’t say no to. He is considered pretty. Silver’s infectious positivity even extends to real life as Tomoko Hayane’s Silver illustration inspired everyone in her office to give him a high five and smile(Sonic Channel Staff Column).

World Peace and Kindness: Silver is an altruist that is always thinking of someone else’s happiness rather than his own and enjoys service jobs because supporting others and making people happy makes him happy. Silver is a kind-hearted person that gives out Christmas gifts as Santa, hands out food and entertains in big events in his off time. Silver is wholly selfless and is willing to sacrifice himself to protect world peace and the smiles of the people without even thinking. Silver is devoted to world peace because he hails from a hellish ruined future that was filled with endless darkness, devastation and people in despair. Silver has great empathy for both people and nature, so devastated environments sadden and upsets him while beauty and prosperity takes his breath away. People’s smiles make him smile and blue skies make him feel at peace. Silver wants to become a hero because it means being someone that can “protect smiles”(Sonic & Silver). He wants to make people happy because he grew up in a world filled with despair. Silver is genuinely grateful to those who help him. Silver’s favorite food is apples which represent sweetness and prosperity(ate apple flavored calorie bars in the Iblis future). Silver’s quills are in the shape of the Japanese Red Maple Leaf which represents world peace, prosperity and serenity.

Forthright: Silver is completely straightforward and honest. Silver is a pure and genuine person that always means what he says and has a sincere, unpretentious and kind demeanor. As a straightforward person, Silver is frank, free of deception, straight to the point, wears his heart on his sleeve, his words and actions are dominated by feelings and he approaches things very directly. Silver is so honest that he cannot tell lies(Sonic & Silver)(though he can still withhold information). Silver is blunt and doesn’t hide his feelings while Sonic and Shadow are coy. Despite his cocky attitude, Silver is quite humble and does not think of himself as a hero but rather just someone trying not to mess up time. Silver's directness and openness allows even repressed people like Blaze to be more open around him. Silver is themed around purity and everything from his white color, youth, honesty, unfilteredness, immaturity, innocence, emotional intensity and positivity tie into this. Silver’s pure nature is why his counterpart is Galahad, the purest and most chaste of all knights. Silver has all the qualities of a Taurus.

Antithesis of Eggman Nega: The above gives Silver an almost Yin-Yang opposite contrast with Eggman Nega who is Twisted, Wicked, Overly Polite, Deceitful, Old, Cruel, Psychopathic, Calculating, Sophisticated, Petty, Egoistic, Desires Chaos and Destruction is being willing to sacrifice himself to destroy the world while Silver is Straightforward, Pure, Blunt/Rude, Honest, Kind, Young, Empathetic, Impulsive, Naive, Practical, Altruistic, desires Peace and Prosperity and is willing to sacrifice himself to protect the world.

Focus: Silver has a straight-to-the-point mentality and only cares that the job is done. He is pragmatic and only cares that a plan works, not what it's called. Silver is goal focused and hates distractions, unnecessary details, timewasting or things getting in his way(Silver uses the Jade Wisp’s Ghost ability because it lets him disappear and focus on racing) which ties into his impatience and impulsiveness as he can get tunnel vision for his objectives. Silver can get so focused that he can zone out(Team Sonic Racing). Silver takes things more seriously than Sonic and is highly vigilant towards danger which allows him to cooperate with Shadow. Silver isn’t trusting(immediately suspicious of Dodon Pa, did not believe in Mephiles until he was physically thrown through time). Despite his naivety, Silver is not easily manipulated. Silver both literally and figuratively uses his mind to solve problems(Prima strategy guide, 06 Town Missions, figuring out how to revive Sonic in 06's Last Story), being very perceptive(saw through Eggman Nega’s disguises by noticing small details, does not fall for the trickery of Eggman Nega or Rouge). Silver is actively inquisitive as he sought answers for ending Iblis when no one else did and has solved mysteries(06 Town Missions, Sonic Rivals 1+2, Team Sonic Racing) to the point he can be considered a detective.

Attitude: Silver has a yanki/punkish personality and is a little immature(Shun Nakaura interview). Silver is so straightforward and honest that he is blunt and rude, especially rude to those he deems against him, but also friends occasionally(Sonic in JP TSR). He doesn’t have a filter and will call you an idiot to your face if he thinks you’re an idiot and isn’t afraid to tell people to shut up(Knuckles in Rivals 2). He has a snide sarcastic attitude(dialogue in 06, Rivals, Rivals 2, Sonic Riders Zero Gravity, Colors DS, , JP TSR and dialogue in Sonic Forces that was cut for time) and is notably abrasive/quick to mock others. Silver is so direct that he can ignore manners and social customs(every meeting in the Sonic Rivals series, several NPC interactions in 06). He is headstrong, competitive and doesn’t tolerate offense from anyone which can lead to him getting into fights for both serious and petty reasons(clashes with Blaze when they meet for the first time in Sonic Colors DS and Otherworld Comedy). He also has a mischievous side that he can have playful cheeky fun with. Silver is very confident and has a smug attitude about his abilities. He is bold, bombastic, over the top and prone to epic declarations(he speaks like a shonen anime character) which ties into his inspirational nature. He is undeterred by any threat(resolves to simply destroy Solaris everywhere at once in 06, fought Iblis and its forces alone as a small child) and can come off as a maniac when going wild(viewed as a maniac several times in 06 and the RIvals series). Silver is more rude/has more attitude than Sonic and his impolite mannerisms includes his aggressive Japanese pronouns Ore(“I”) and Anta(“you”), that he speaks bluntly, casual posture(similar to Rouge the Bat), sitting with his legs crossed(equivalent to putting your legs on a table) and never giving his full name(just “Silver”) when he introduces himself(unlike Sonic and Shadow who give their full names). Silver’s impoliteness and immaturity is an aspect of his straightforwardness and purity.

Naive: Silver is naive and has a black and white perspective, he is innocent in his worldview and ideals due to hailing from a ruined future where he spent most of his time battling Iblis. He can approach things very bluntly and expect people to believe he’s from the future or other bizarre things just because he knows they’re true(which leads to people thinking he’s crazy and him getting angry). He sometimes does not understand social cues, takes things literally or doesn’t get jokes(but has an angry “what’s so funny?” attitude about it) which can lead to awkwardness or confusion as he doesn’t know how to navigate certain situations. Silver's naivety and openness has a special charm. Because he’s from the apocalyptic future he is ignorant of many things and due to his destitute apocalyptic background, Silver is wide eyed(Sonic Channel poster) and has a sense of wonder and curiosity for cool, new and interesting things and experiences.

Emotional: Silver is high-spirited and emotionally immature/unregulated. Silver's strong feelings sometimes lead him to deal with things too head-on or take everything on himself. Silver’s emotional intensity gives him a tendency to be impulsive which is how Mephiles was able to manipulate him(Sonic 06 leaked script) and why he goes after Infinite alone. Silver is hot-headed and rash while Sonic and Shadow are calm and cool-headed(Sonic & Silver, Shadow concept art). Silver feels joy and rage loudly but sadness and contemplation quietly(various quiet moments in 06). He is easily frustrated, gets indignant when people don’t listen to him(Sonic & Silver), punches things when he is frustrated but conversely can get riled up and emotional bursts of joy. He can crash out and be reckless because of his emotional explosiveness. So Silver is usually partnered with stoic people(Blaze, Shadow, Espio) that pull him back. In the original Japanese version of 06, Blaze is worried about Silver running wild/going berserk(Bousou) like he does without her in the Sonic Rivals series rather than being insecure when alone.

Warrior: Silver fought and struggled for half his life(Sonic & Silver) in the destroyed future against the forces of Iblis(monsters, constant disasters, dark and hostile environments, Iblis itself) and is a fierce warrior because of it. Silver has intense aggressive expressions and body language with constant fists(gets up with his fist in Forces) even when just playing games and has an instant fight response to being surprised in Sonic Generations. Silver has relentless determination that has fought through constant hardships in life, never giving up no matter how he’s hurt or how desperate the situation(This also makes him ). He's extremely brave and throws himself at threats with no regard for his own safety(Sonic Comic) and has extreme pain tolerance(shrugs off being scraped across a street in Generations and pain beyond description from his powers). Silver has a warrior mentality and philosophy, he enjoys fighting and fights his friends for fun as well as coming to places to see if they can put up a good fight. Silver has high fighting power that rivals Sonic and Shadow and can evenly fistfight them without his psychic powers(Sonic 06, Sonic Rivals). Silver is able to defeat giant monsters such as Iblis and small armies of enemies by himself(06 Town Missions). Silver has angular upturned eyes which represent strong will and intensity in character design.

Challenger: Outside of missions, Silver is a life loving adventurer that engages in competitions like Sonic’s other rivals. Silver engages in cheerful activities after the historical change in 06 and loves sightseeing and going on journeys to express his love for the world. Silver enjoys challenges, ways to test himself(climbed the Tokyo Tower) and puts his all into what he gets invested in(I’m giving this everything I’ve got!). Silver is a Fly/Technique Type character so he specializes in technical skills, acrobatics and balance. Silver is a skilled professional that makes steady efforts to train and improve his skills and takes offense to being treated like an amateur(Otherworld Comedy Act 8). Silver is a multi-talented person that has been a top class ice skater, a genius celebrity skating coach and a delivery boy. Silver was able to get one of the highest shooting scores in Soleanna’s 1500 year history and skillfully accomplish various odd jobs across Soleanna(Sonic 06 Town Missions). One of Silver’s catchphrases is “I’ll take you on”.
