You hear the door open and turn heating two sets of boots stumbling in and the sounds of coats being hung up and leon sighing

The candle flickered insistently upon its brass chamber stick, the stars twinkled outside the window above your desk teasing you as you run a hand through your messy hair once again pouring over stacks of books trying to find a solution to how to adjust one of your spells.
You'd been working on a light spell to accurately map the stars overhead for the purpose of teaching with a more hands on method to view constellations. for days on end now you've been honing and refining the accuracy of star placements, your floor was covered in hand drawn maps, your workspace a mess of stationary and papers not to mention the empty mug of tea you haven't bothered to take care of yet.
You'd been entirely nocturnal for the past week having made no contact with any of the people you lived with in the atelier, only briefly seeing Olruggio burning the midnight oil or Qifrey making a midnight snack afterall you ended up going out to study the stars for hours on end up in the highest cliffsides all night.
You were planning to leave again seeing as the sun has finally dissipated completely from the sky to make way for the moon. you pulled on your shoes ready to head out once more observation journal by your side and cloak sloppily pulled over your head before you even stepped through the kitchen on your way towards the door you bumped straight into a soft body dropping your things you nearly stumbled over feeling gentle hands slid across the expanse of your back, steadying you, you looked up shocked to see him up so late.
"Qifrey?" You spoke less a greeting and more so question as to why his up eyes scanning over his features.
"Dear I was just going up to see you, where are you off too in a rush?" He said softly as he made sure you were stable before picking up your dropped satchel seeing your journal open to a half finished diagram.
"I was going to go out to work on my map some more sorry" you said as you toyed with your cloak trying to fix it as you'd put it on very lopsided.
"Darling- I know your dedicated to your work but you've been out of the house every night this week and skipping meals— Don't think i haven't noticed." He put his hands on his hips holding your satchel still.
"But-" you began but the look of disapproval and worry hit you like a sack of flour making any words you had previously die on your tongue.
"Come, I made your favorite soup earlier for dinner" he said walking to the kitchen he hung your satchel up on the hook before moving to find a bowl to put your soup in.
You followed hesitantly your chest ached you hated the feeling of upsetting your partner you didn't want to worry him or stress him out any more than he already was it seemed like he was always chasing after his apprentices afterall. You sat down at the table after he pointed to it you were obedient afterall at least when it came to him.
"Eat up love, a body cant run well on no fuel afterall." he settled the bowl in front of you along with a piece of buttered bread.
You picked up the spoon slowly took a bite you were upset you were missing out on peak star gazing hours but you found the mere thought of upsetting Qifrey even worse honestly. The silence was deafening as you took slow bites of the soup, you were starving yes but the awkward churning in your stomach made it hard to swallow.
"Darling… I cant help but notice, that you've been avoiding me recently, if Ive done anything wrong please do tell me-" he began quietly speaking hands folded on the table aquamarine eye looking deep into yours almost as if he was trying to peel the curtains away and peer into your soul.
You paused your eating and thought for a while on how to best responded before you finally mustered up the courage.
"Its not anything you've done… I just- i guess im just in a- 'funk' i don't know. I guess i just dont want to be seen recently" the last bit of your rambling slipped out before you realized what you were saying.
"You dont want me to see you? Why? talk to me darling" he said leaning a little closer.
You stared down at the soup like it had personally offended you, you haven't made eye-contact with him once this entire time honestly you were too scared too.
"I just- Ive been feeling very gross. And i dont like how i look so i just have been avoiding being seen recently im sorry to burden you" you began with the apologies even though you have been in pain the past few days all you could think about is how you even slightly inconvenienced Qifrey.
"Its nothing really im just being dramatic-" you stopped talking when you looked up and saw the look Qifrey was giving you, wide with shock soft with concern eyebrows tilted up.
"Darling.. is that really how you think of yourself? Id love you even if you were turned into a brush bug." He held your hand across the table.
"I miss you, not the way you look. I wish you could see yourself through my eyes" he spoke gently.
An awkward silence fell across the room as you played with your soup a little with your spoon. He stood up suddenly moving through the room looking for something your eyes followed him curiously wondering what he was looking for.
"I was planning on saving this for tomorrow but I suppose we can move desert up a night" he said reaching into the back of the freezer he took out a small plate stacked high with macaroon.
"Ive taken great care in hiding these from olruggio so we could share them, their from the bakery in Kahln we used to meet at" he smiled setting them in between the two of you gently.
"Is there an occasion?" You asked.
"None just an end of the week treat to celebrate your hard work im sure the girls will want to learn it all from you when you finish your spell" his teacher brain never once turned off clearly, but with an eye so bright you knew you could never say no.
You had finished your soup, reluctantly giving in to the temptation of these multicolored delights popping a pink one into your mouth enjoying the soft crunch and strawberry flavor only after your done putting the last half in your mouth do you look up he had an elbow on the table eyes shimmering in the candlelight as he held his face and gazed at you with such unadulterated admiration you nearly choked.
"Oh quit looking at me like that-" you giggled you couldn't take his stupid face seriously.
When you finished your share you insisted on helping him with dishes drying them and putting them away after he washes them with his magic you settled into a comfortable rhythm you flowed well as a team. Qifrey gazed at the water swirling across the spoons and bowls and suddenly found a stroke of inspiration turning to gaze at you profile the way your posture curled and you rubbed your back after stretching a little two far to put a mug in the cabinet just as you dried your hands off he began to speak.
"Say, why dont you join me in retiring to our bedchambers hm? you look in dire need of some good sleep afterall." he said softly brushing a stray water droplet off of your cheek.
"Mm i dont know ive still got-" you thought back to your plethora of tasks still awaiting you in your study although you got shushed almost immediately.
"Come on darling. we will face your long list of tasks tomorrow your body needs rest and so do i, i never sleep well when your not in bed with me afterall" he took you by the hand and led you to the bedroom instant but not without a gentleness.
You huffed you couldn't argue, you felt bad about leaving him alone all these nights afterall. he helped you unclasp your cloak with delft hands he hung it up alongside his own before moving to light a candle on the bedside table to give you light as you changed the gentle aroma of lavender filled the room. you sat on your side of the bed your fatigue hitting you all at once now that you were off your feet, you weaseled your way beneath the comforter.
"well look at you all bundled up, you look like a cute little caterpillar " he sat beside you.
"room for one more?" he snuggled underneath the covers with you.
You didn't know for certain how you'd finish your long list of work but you knew one thing for certain so long as you got to come home to this? you'd be alright.
