The thing about Optimus making Silverbolt the leader of the Aerialbots to stop him from thinking about his fear of heights is that, aside from the fact that giving someone responsabilities to make them forget about their issues is not the best way to help them, you can infer that Optimus decided to do that because that's how he deals with his own issues.
