“Oh, how sweet!” She smiled, walking next to Patsy. It felt so lovely to hear about children being brought into the world. She really adored Patsy’s job and would always listen intently when ever she would talk about. She would also comfort her for the times that did not end happily. She remembered the night that Patsy had come into her room, tearfully because of an incident that had happened at work. She felt truly terrible for her and held her all the way through the night; looking after her. She knew that there would be a lot of heartbreak along with joy, and she would always be there for her love.

She wished that she could provide Patsy with the things that a man could provide her. She wished that she could marry her and have babies with her. She knew that at least, she could be Patsy’s lover for as long as there was love between them. In her heart, she was married to her already.

When they arrived at Patsy’s bike, Delia was asked if she’d rather take the suitcase or the bike, thinking it to be so considerate for her lover to look after her so much. “I’ll take the bike, sweetheart,” she slipped, blushing and biting her lip as she did so. Nobody had heard her say it, anyway and it could easily sound like an affectionate friend, rather than lover. That was one thing she knew she would take advantage of and she loved it.

Delia grabbed the rails of Patsy’s bike and started to move it as they walked home, not taking her eyes off of the beauty beside her. Her mind wondered, imagining herself running her fingers through that brilliant-red hair and kissing those soft lips. She then blushed furiously and went back to moving the bike. “I’ve missed you so much.”

The term of endearment made Patsy turn quite red and she glanced at the ground. She knew no one had heard, no one would suspect a thing but they were both blushing. How could no one see? Maybe it really was so that people didn’t believe they existed. That was comforting but also really, really sad because they did exist. Queer women had faces and stories and loves… and no one would ever know them. No one would ever truly know her and Delia and that saddened her. But again, she didn’t let her thoughts drag her down. This was a happy day and it would be a happy weekend. She had to focus on that.

They walked together, back to Nonnatus. “I’ve missed you too;” She said, softly and glanced at her love. “I’m just so glad that I’ll have you with me this weekend.” She said, her voice soft and smooth. “I have convinced Sister Julienne that I’ll have to stay in your room because you still suffer from seizures sometimes. I told you I’d try but it actually worked.” She said, her face revealing just how excited she was.
