new chapter but small preface as this ones a little different. I really wanted this scene to be apart of the story but i couldn't really figure out a way to condense it into a comic without hating myself, so instead i've decided to write it all out :) ill be going back to the comic style of chapter after this and probably wont be writing instead of drawing very often. hope you enjoy even tho its not the usual type of chapter. im more of a artist then a writer so if there any typos, grammatical errors, or clucky sentences please forgive me.
I Wonder Who it Will Be - 2113 words
Destiny glanced around the vehicle she was sat in, it wasn’t incredibly new but it was nice. The entirety of the car was in a clean and sleek shade of black, it was Goths car, or the Gothmobile, as she just elected to call it for no reason. Goth was driving, her hat was raised slightly more than usual on her head so she could get a clear view of the road. From this angle, Destiny could take a rare look at Goths eyes, which were slim and black, or just plain beautiful to her.
“Just for fair warning,” Goth started. “One of my friends, Finn, has not been doing particularly well lately, so if they seem a bit off it is not your fault. Just be patient with them.”
“Got it!” Destiny replied. “I’ll try and watch my words.”
“I know you’ll be fine and get along well with everyone.”
“Sure hope so,” Destiny chuckled. “Do you think I’ll have to endure any shovel talks?”
Goth pondered the question for a moment with a small hum. “Maybe from Xavier, but he’s still very friendly.”
Destiny smiled and glanced out the window. The roads were rough and the greenery outside was slightly overgrown, but that was normal in a smaller town like the one she lived in. They were close to the outskirts of town, in a slightly sketchier area. She was told that Goth and her friends usually met up at a park near here, since it was within walking distance of Finn, who couldn’t drive.
“We’re here,” Goth said as she pulled the car up to the side of the road, parking it gracefully. Destinys heart jumped up in her chest, while she and Goth hadn’t been dating for a super long time, she still really liked her, and knew the importance of first impressions with the friend group.
Destiny and Goth hopped out of the car and made their way to a small playground, it was later into the day, so no actual children were at it, not that it was a super popular destination for children in the first place. Near the playground were four other individuals, waiting for Goth and Destinys arrival.
“Hello everyone.” Goth called to the crowd.
“Hey hey!” A shorter woman with darker skin waved rapidly to them. A couple of the others gave small waves to the duo.
“Everyone, this is Destiny” Goth said, gesturing at her.
Destiny gave a small, awkward wave at the group. “Hello!”
“Destiny,” Goth looked at her before gesturing to a person wearing a white bucket hat with long brown hair. “This is Finn,” She moved on to a tall man with pronounced muscles, a black crop top, and an impressive amount of shoulder length hair. “This is Xavier,” Goth moved onto the shorter woman who waved earlier, who had curly pigtails and a frilled dunce cap. “This is April,” Lastly she gestured to a nervous looking man with a two toned jacket, baggy pants, and a large amount of hair that covered one of his eyes, with three hair clips; one blue, one red, and one purple, holding back more hair to prevent it from covering his other eye. “And this is Chris.”
“It's nice to meet you!” April exclaimed after the introductions were over.
“Yes, um, very nice to meet you!” Finn stuttered.
Chris nodded, making vague greeting-like noises.
“It’s nice to meet all of you too!” Destiny greeted back.
“Well I’m, uh, going to sit on the swings for a bit.” Finn announced nervously before turning around and making their way to the swing set.
“I’m right behind you mate!” Xavier said, taking off after Finn.
April bounced over to Destiny. “Do’ya like climbing?” She asked in a slightly mischievous manner.
April smiled brightly. “Then come with me!” She turned around and made her way over to a small climbing wall. Destiny followed quickly behind.
“The wall isn't very big,” April said as they got to their destination. “But it sure isn't made for grown adults, which makes it trickier to climb than it looks!” Destiny looked at the wall, and April was right about its size, being only slightly taller than herself, but on closer inspection the rocks attached to the wall made for climbing weren’t big, and definitely not built for adult hands.
Despite her words, April started climbing up the wall with ease, making it to the top and sitting down within seconds. “Come on!”
Destiny cracked her knuckles and began climbing the wall, the small rocks were difficult to get a good grip on, but not impossible. She was able to get up decently quickly, but not as fast as April.
“Pretty good!” April said as she got to the top of the wall. “Much better than Xavier at least.”
“He might look all musclely but his big ol’ man hands couldn’t get a grip on the rocks, it was pretty funny to watch.”
“He does have quite a bit of muscle…” Destiny glanced at him on the swings. “Does he work out?”
“Yeah, I know he has a bit of an at home gym since we don’t have a proper one in town, and he also does manual labour as his job so he's pretty strong.” April leaned in smugly. “But don’t be fooled, those muscles aren’t good for much else other than lifting heavy stuff.”
“What about you though?” April poked at her arm. “You look pretty muscular.”
“I wouldn’t say I work out in a traditional sense, but I do boxing and kick boxing and have a punching bag at home that I love to abuse.” Destiny answered.
“Oh a fighter?! That's super cool!”
“I guess you could say that…” Destiny answered a bit sheepishly. “I also did various martial arts as a kid.
April oo-ed at the information. “Have you gotten Goth to watch?”
“Oh I’m just sure that it’s quite the show is all…” April smiled mischievously.
Blood rushed to Destinys face. “Do,, you think she’d like that?”
“I don’t know, I’m not her girlfriend.”
“Well I’m,,,” Destiny muttered, trying to get the image out of her mind. “Going to try talking to some of the others.” She said as she began climbing down.
“Sure sure. I’ll go try and climb up the slide.” April said as she jumped down from the top of the wall.
The two waved as they parted ways, and Destiny looked around to see who was where. Goth and Chris were talking on a nearby bench, whatever it was they were talking about, it looked personal and important, so Destiny made her way towards the swings, where Finn and Xavier still were.
“Hey guys!” Destiny greeted as she approached the duo. Finn jumped at her presence and Xavier merely looked over.
“O-Oh hey Destiny!” Finn smiled nervously. “Didn’t see you there.”
“Hi! Just coming over to talk with yall a bit!” Destiny said, leaning against one of the poles of the swingset.
“Sorry there's only two swings… I can move if you want?” Finn offered.
“No no! It's okay, I'll just be here for a few minutes, no need to move.”
“Okay, um…” Finn trailed off, kicked their feet lightly against the ground.
“I like your guys outfits.” Destiny said, in an attempt to start a conversation.
“Thanks..!” Finn replied.
Xavier hummed a sound of agreement. “I wish I could say the same thing to you.”
“Xavier!” Finn yelled at the other on the swing. “Come on, don't be mean!”
Xavier slapped a hand against his mouth. “Sorry. I don’t know why I said that.”
Destiny laughed awkwardly. “No it's okay, you two definitely care more about appearances than I do.”
“I think your socks are fun.” Finn said.
“Well um…” Xavier started. “What kind of things are you into?”
Destiny lit up. “Oh man, all sorts of things! I do boxing a kick boxing, I play all sorts of games but I have a big soft spot for wii games, I watch shows and musicals, and recently I’ve been reading all sorts of books. That's actually how me and Goth met!”
“Yeah! I started going to the library a lot to read all sorts of stuff. Apparently Goth found the sheer variety of books I was taking out to be super weird, but decided to try talking to me when I wanted to take out one of her favourites. Frankenstein, I think it was.” Destiny explained.
“You met Goth at her job?” Finn asked.
“It might be a little strange but yeah… She just thought I was weird and interesting and wanted to see what my deal was basically.” Destiny chuckled. “I think she saw me as a strange specimen.”
“That… sounds like Goth alright.” Xavier smiled. “Pretty sure she was like that when I first met her back in high school.”
“Wow high school. You’ve known Goth for a while then huh?” Destiny asked.
“Yeah I guess, but not nearly as long as Chris. They’ve been friends since elementary.”
“Wow, that's a really long time.”
“Speaking of school,” Xavier starts. “You're like my age right? Why don’t I remember seeing you in high school?”
“Well high school was a long time ago y’know…” Destiny trailed off. “Also I was in the dumb kid classes…”
“Don’t say that…” Finn interjected. “You're not dumb for that.”
Destiny chuckled awkwardly. “It’s fine. That was years ago and it doesn’t matter anymore. What are you guys into?” Destiny said, changing the conversation.
“I like working out, obviously, and playing video games and messing around with fashion and make up.” Xavier answered.
Destiny oo-ed. “What kind of games?”
“I’m kinda a capcom type of guy, my favourites are the older megaman games.”
“Ooh retro that's fun! What about you Finn?”
“I, um,” Finn stuttered. “Don’t really do anything…”
“Don't do anything..?” Destiny thought aloud.
“Well you know, work is tiring and I don’t really have the energy to do much else other than doomscroll.” Finn explained, shifting their eyes towards the ground.
“No that's fair, life's tiring, I get it.”
After that the conversation had halted to a stop, and Destiny didn’t really have any idea on how to save it. Goth mentioned that Finn wasn’t doing well so she couldn’t blame them for being a little quiet but Xavier didn’t seem very interested in talking to her either.
“I’m going to go talk to Chris and Goth now.” Destiny said. “It was fun talking though!” She smiled as she started walking away.
“You too!” Finn exclaimed from the distance. She got nothing from Xavier.
Destiny looked around to find that bench she saw the other two at earlier, finally settling her eyes on the right location. Whatever they had been talking about before, seemed to have ended, and the two of them were now just sitting quietly. ‘It's the perfect time to try and strike a conversation’ Destiny thought as she walked over. ‘And maybe Goth being here will make things easier.’
“Whats up over here?” Destiny asked as she walked up to the duo.
“Oh hello Destiny,” Goth smiled. “We were just talking.”
“Hope you don’t mind if I join?” Destiny asked as she sat down beside Goth.
“It's nice to meet you Chris.” Destiny smiled at the man across the bench.
“It’s um, nice to meet you too.” Chris spoke quietly, fidgeting with his hands.
“Woah wait!” Destiny exclaimed, looking down at Chris’s finger nails. “Is that Tally Hall?”
“Oh ah, um.” Chris stuttered looking down at his hands, with fingernails painted familiar shades of red, blue, yellow, grey, and green. “Yeah it is, they’re my favourite band.”
“Mine too!” Destiny exclaimed. “Whats your favourite song? Mines The Bidding!”
“It, um. Changes a lot, but I really like Spring and a Storm and Good Day right now.”
“I didn’t know you were a Tally Hall fan Destiny, or I surely would’ve introduced you two sooner.” Goth noted.
“Must be one of the few things I haven’t yapped your ear off about yet.” Destiny joked to her girlfriend.
“You know I like it when you talk about things you're interested in.”
“I know.” Destiny blushes. “We definitely need to talk more though, Chris!”
Chris looks down and hums a sound of agreement.
“How have you been getting along with everyone so far, Destiny?” Goth asked.
“Pretty well I think. Or at least I hope.”
“I told you that you would get along with everyone just fine.” Goth leaned into Destiny.
“Yeah I guess you did. Excited to get to know everyone a bit better.” Destiny giggles.
