⇢ ✖ ema ; bare.
The detective remained firm in her place, her stare towards him unwavering. Standing there in silence, a flurry of thoughts ran through her mind, thoughts of what she should do next in this situation she found herself in. It had been her own stubbornness that brought on this.. predicament? She wasn’t exactly sure what ‘this’ was, all she knew was that it was too late to back down now. Ema wanted answers, and she would make sure she’d get those damn answers. He was being stubborn sure, but she could counter that easily.
And so the brunette waited for a reaction, any response at all. A frown replaced the blank expression on her face, arms remained crossed. "You know we could be here all day, insults aren’t going to make me move." was the retort that followed. It was Subaru who was making things difficult, if he would just comply to her wishes and answer the simple question, then they would have been done a long time ago. Of course, things would never be so easy. This was just like any other time she’d press information out of someone, it was all a matter of paying close attention and jumping in when the time was right. Though yet again, just like the rest it always lead to the same results. Long. Tiresome.
And quite frankly, incredibly irritating.
(Meh, what else is new?)
Silence followed her statement, for a good while at that. He had attempted once to sidestep his way out, only to be halted by her quick movement. Watching closely she wondered what he was thinking about, as it seemed he was in deep thought. She pondered as she continued to block his attempts at getting away, pleased when he finally gave up. Hopefully now he realized he was fighting a losing battle, and would just answer her. That was what she had hoped anyway, what she received was something different from her expectations. Very different.
The growl she had expected, his attitude was nothing new. A small flash of concern when his teeth gritted and his hands had curled into fists. Cautiously, she took a step backwards, parting her lips to speak but was lifted up before a single word could come out. The sudden shift in height as she was placed over his shoulder both flustered and angered her, it didn’t take more than a second for her to react.
"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?! PUT ME DOWN." She kicked her legs, flailed about, and even attempted to grab something from her bag to hit him with, in an attempt to break free. Wherever they were headed was the least of her concerns, she was too preoccupied trying to free herself. It wasn’t long before he dropped her to the floor which resulted in the brunette letting out a small hiss, along with a curse escaping her mouth.
She didn’t have any time to see where they were, he was looking down at her, those fang-like teeth being bared at her. Ema wasn’t sure what to think when she saw the smirk that had grown on the male’s face. The only thought in mind was to be ready to grab the nearest object, in case things were to escalate any further. It wasn’t until he spoke once more that a new thought came to her.
(What the heck?! He’s fucking lost it!)
Though she tried to hide her anger, she quickly snapped at him. "What do you take me for, an idiot?! There’s no such thing as vampires! If you think for even a second that just because you have strange looking teeth you’ll be able to intimidate me then you—" she had started off angrily, abruptly coming to a stop. Whatever the rest of her thought was, it was never finished. Her hand pulled the pink glasses down from the top of her head as it tilted down. Brown strands of hair shielded her face, as she tried to calm her sudden spike of rage. Surely what he spoke was nothing but lies.. right?
(Nonsense, there’s no way that could be true. It’s.. scientifically impossible.)
He was stepping over a hell ton of rules, breaking them as he went. But what was done was done, and there wasn't anything else he could do, other than to wait. And so he did. He waited, and waited but-- what exactly was he waiting for? A reaction? Well, it was well-received, what with the way Ema was mowing him down, and even then, he couldn't help but continue to grin, as if he held the world's largest secret (maybe not the largest, but you couldn't deny that it was pretty big on it's own).
"You look like an old hag doing that. What, 'you suddenly blind?" he asked, his voice teasing as Ema pushed down her glasses. It was the first time it was ever this light that you could even hear the smile in it. But that didn't answer his previous question--
-- what was he actually waiting for?
Why did he tell her in the first place? Ema was nothing but a loudmouth, who was sure to tell the first person she saw (he prayed that it wouldn't be one of his brothers; that would just complicate the matter even more, maybe a little teasing or lecturing would be tossed in, depending on the person). Maybe Subaru just wanted her to shut up, because god her pestering was annoying. But deep inside, that wasn't really it.
Over the past months or so he's been stuck here, Subaru seemed to find himself attached with Ema. Not exactly something romantic, but as a friend. Dare he say, family. It was lingering at the back of his head, but he didn't want to admit it. Admitting it would mean giving up power, and now that he's finally gotten the upper hand over her, he wouldn't even dare to relinquish the power, the satisfaction, he held over the brunette. But it wasn't a thought he could push away so easily.
Perhaps, in his own, strange way, he was waiting for acceptance.
To be accepted by her. That even though he was this twisted monster, unable to do anything other than destroy, she would still stick around him. But that was ridiculous, right? He had to admit that Ema was smart; more clever than him in most instances, but even she wouldn't get it (what it was like be a monster).
(though through wishful thinking, Subaru thought she could have.)
Ema was of the kind who feared monsters; humans. The same humans who would run away at the sight of danger, their tails tucked underneath their legs as ran for their lives, nothing to reap but cowardice. They were like mice, waiting to be captured. So he did what he usually did; fake nonchalance. Act bored, as if this was normal.
"Look at that. Even a loudmouth like you can be silenced." he leaned forward, teeth bared once more to her.
