Make it permanent

“I actually don’t know for sure…but I would be more than happy to find out.” He teased, referring to seeing the other’s package. Jacob rolled his eyes, “I have a lot of catching up to do? Yeah?” He said, a smirk on his face. “I never claimed to be cool, man. Just wanted to make sure you’re not hungry or whatever.” He said, shrugging his muscular shoulders. “If I were trying to look cool, I would strip down completely and go skinny dipping but you know me, man…super not cool.” He said, waving his hands around.

“That’s a great idea!” Silas said with a laugh at the mention of going skinny dipping. He needed to let loose like he used to. With not giving a fuck and having fun. With alcohol out of the plan, why not just go and do something crazy? Pushing himself off from the tree, his fingers hooked to the elastic of his swim trunks and without any second thought, he pushed them down. “Now you have something to be jealous of,” he teased with a smirk on his face before heading in the direction of the lake.

“Very true..why would they choose me?” He chuckled, nudging the other back. “Sometimes people are into short guys with longer..you know. Some people don’t like tall, handsome guys with tiny dicks.” He teased. “Listen man, sometimes all we can do is try to enjoy the day.” He said, pulling his sunglasses down off of his head and over his eyes. “You want something to eat or anything? A drink? They have soda and water.” He smiled, being mindful of Silas not drinking.

“You can’t just use my words against me, dude. We both know that I have the bigger dick here. What are we going to do? Just whip our junk out and see who gets more of the attention?” He joked. When being asked about wanting something to eat or drink, he shook his head. “Nah. I’m good. I got something to eat on the way down and I’m just chilling now. “But look at you trying to look cool. You have a lot of catching up to do.” He joked once more. 

“That’s why we’re getting smoothies.” She assured her friend of the plan. She understood he was stressed under his personal situation. “Silas, just come find me when if you ever start getting overwhelmed, okay? You know I’m not that big of a drinker and I’m here for you- You know that.” Kiara reminded her friend. She knows about Silas’s struggle and would do whatever she could to help him. At his compliments she scrunched her face for a second and smiled. “Awh, you’re so nice. You look good, too. Let’s work on the happy part now.”

“Right... smoothies.” He had forgotten that there had been something else there besides what most people were drinking. It had been the only thing on his mind since getting there. “I know, and thank you. I’m not here to put a downer on your mood. My head is just fucked up with being here right now.” He admitted as he continued to follow her towards the truck.

Jacob scoffed, taking a sip of his drink. “Lots of people catch my eye.” He said, giving Silas a quick look up and down. “That’d be pretty shitty of you to pick someone up for me and then hook up with them yourself.” He laughed, rubbing the condensation from the can on his bare chest. “What about you? You looking to bring anyone home tonight?” He asked.

“That depends on who it is.” He joked, flashing the other male a playful smirk. “Plus, if they see us together, why would they want to choose you?” He joked once more, playfully nudging the other with his arm. “It depends on my mood by the end of the night. I’m not sure if I’m going to. I”m going to try and enjoy the day, but not sure if that’s going to work out.”

“Oh c’mon, Si. It’s not that bad.” Kiara reasoned with her friend, knowing it was him. Not only by his voice, but by the words being said. She turned to look at him and made a small face at him as she brushed sand off of her leg. “Silas, just relax. Have fun. Let’s go get drinks?” She suggested to Silas and linked one of her arms with his, leading him to walk. “I’m okay! My Tan is going to be amazing by the time we get home.”

“That’s the issue.” Silas started when bringing him to get drinks. “Everyone here is drinking... almost everyone and I’ve been out of rehab for like... two months?” He had lost track of time but he was sure it had only been that short amount of time. He walked beside her, looking down at her, nodding at her words. “You’re already looking a bit tan. Everyone will be jealous because o you with how great you look.” 

Teagan had been excited for the bonfire and a day of lounging by the lake with her friends. Until she had gotten there. It was all overwhelming—her head hurt from the noise, she felt like she could smell everything and it made her gag, but far worse than the typical pregnancy symptoms was the alcohol ( and, Teagan was 100% positive, the drugs ) that were floating around. She thought she would be able to handle herself. Wrong. The temptation was too strong; even though she had the greatest reason in the entire world to stay sober, Teagan felt like she was going out of her mind. Not wanting to bring the vibe down for everyone else, she had settled on sticking by the fire and playing her guitar to drown everything else out. Her head snapped up from where she had been focusing on the strings at the sound of a voice. “Hey! Silas, right? By all means, man! Just please, for the love of fucking God, don’t ask me to play Wonderwall. I made the last one who asked cry.” Chuckling, Teagan shifted over so Silas could sit down.

Silas was glad that he had found someone who wasn’t caving under the pressure of alcohol. Granted -- he had seen Teagan’s post about being pregnant and was sure that was the reason why, but still... he was glad that he wouldn’t be the only sober one there. “That’s my name,” he said in a cheesy way before taking a spot beside her. Placing his guitar on his lap, he tuned his guitar before mimicking the chords she had been playing before interrupting her. “God, really? People are still wanting to hear that song?” He let out a laugh, looking over at her. “Whatever you want to play, I’ll join in. Or if you want to give your fingers a rest, you sing and I’ll play.”

 Without hesitation a no came from her crimson red lips. “I’ve already made my rounds to say hello and thank you. I don’t think anybody is going to notice I’m gone and if they do I’m sure they will think I’m mingling or stuffing my face at the dessert table. Hiding out somewhere sounds perfect to me. Then I get to go on and on about my list.” She sent him a teasing smile. “You didn’t need to do that.” She didn’t want to make his life harder just for her account. “As you know I don’t really make a big deal out of my birthday anymore. So I didn’t think anybody else would either, but I’m glad your patients were willing to share you for tonight.”  

“Okay, then it works out perfectly.” He flashed her one of his signature smiles. “How about you start telling me that list while we figure out where to go?” He questioned with a raised eyebrow while looking at the female. “Stop. Even if you don’t normally celebrate your birthday, why would I miss it when someone is planning a party for you? It’s the day to celebrate you and I’m here for this -- for you. My patients are under good care with one of the many other amazing nurses at the hospital. Tonight -- I’m all yours.” 

“I mean, that’s a fair assessment.” Kiara nodded as she thought about what her friend said. “I don’t know, I just work there.” She teased with a shrug. “Oh-I know you worked your ass off. I’d never doubt you, especially with that. But I also understand the eagerness of getting someone to put a good word for you. In fact, I know some kids that did that for auditions for the Spring Musical senior year.” 

Silas listened to her, nodding occasionally at her words. “I guess, but in the end... I really didn’t care if someone put in a good word for me. I did my best and if that got me to where I wanted to be, great... if not, there was always next year to try harder.” He explained. “And -- the only thing I would care about is if the coach put a good word in for me with scouts. Not that I wanted to go ahead with a sports career, but that would be the one thing that I cared about if I wanted to go in that direction.” 

“I think if I started sharing we would be here all night and miss the rest of the party.” His answer ran through her mind over and over again. She didn’t know what it meant and she didn’t want to ask. Instead she focus on the next question that he asked her. “Yes I am talking about you. I’m glad there’s cake don’t get me wrong. But I’m glad you decided to come  tonight, I know your work schedule is probably really crazy.”

“And are you wanting to go back in there right now?” Silas questioned with a playful smirk forming on his lips. “I have all night if you do... once the party is over, or we can go somewhere and hide and I’d be more than happy to listen to this list you have.” He offered as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder, pulling her in closer to him. “It’s your birthday, of course I would show up. My work schedule is a bit crazy, but I was able to move some things around to be here for you. You know you’re my favorite girl. I wouldn’t miss your birthday for anything.”
