10 reasons for learning Italian
Not meaning to insult French here (I love that language), but Italian is the real language of love™. Nothing says I love you like ti amo does.
Italy is an amazing country to visit and Italians are mostly really friendly! So, speaking Italian means you can speak to friendly people! And they’re always willing to help you.
You can read the classic masterworks La divina commedia and Il nome della rosa in their original language. (And that’s only two, there are like 52731, and then I haven’t even counted in poems.)
Tell people you’re learning Italian and everyone will think it’s super cool. Which it is.
It is an official language in Italy (duh), Switzerland, San Marino, Vatican City and Western Istria (Slovenia and Croatia), and it’s also a commonly heard language in Malta and Albania. It is also estimated the 4th or 5th most frequently taught foreign language in the world. About 85 million people in the world speak Italian. So, even if you live in China or Greenland, there must be someone speaking Italian, you just have to find them.
Italian is the language used for musical terminology and is a very important language in the Roman Catholic hierarchy.
After Sardinian, it’s the language that’s the closest related to Latin. Mind you, it derives from vulgar Latin. But still, Latin is the language of Cicero, Vergilius, Ovidius, Augustus, Caesar and so many more people who influenced western culture greatly.
It’s pronunciation is fairly simple (in my experience) and for those learning French or English, you know what a blessing that can be.
Learning Italian will make it easier to learn French, Spanish, Portuguese, Sicilian or any other Romance language.
Last but not least, you get to do the famous hand gesture while speaking (I included a pic to persuade you). Tbh, that makes it all worth it.
