At age 13, Zuko was cut off from his family after a public disagreement with his father, sent into an exile with nothing but the clothes on his back and a rusty ship to live on.

For years he sailed the seas, trying to earn back his father's love by searching for the one thing that had eluded their family for so long; one thing that could ensure their nation's complete sovereignty. 

But unfortunately for him, petty piracy and the revenge business didn't pay very well. The boat needed repairs and his crew needed to eat. On one particular stop at port, some of his men wandered over to a whorehouse. Though he initially showed no interest, seeing it as uncouth, Zuko was dragged there by a drunken sailor.

Where the idea was planted in his head. Perhaps it wouldn't be so hard to earn a bit of extra money, provided he could get over his sense of propriety for an hour or two every day.
